    Clean cheerful home attentive staff

I chose this small, home-like place for my mom and have been very pleased. It's clean, bright, and cheerful with friendly, patient staff (Charlie runs a great team) who treat residents like family, provide personalized meals and daily hygiene/medication monitoring, and are available 24/7. The private rooms, large living area, backyard with fruit trees, thoughtful snacks and activities, and regular updates give our family real peace of mind.

    Summary of reviews

Overall impression: Columns Care Home presents as a small, home-style assisted living setting with a consistent emphasis on individualized, compassionate care. Multiple families described 24/7 staffing, hands-on assistance with activities of daily living (bathing, dressing), daily medication monitoring, and compatibility with hospice and end-of-life needs. The facility’s small-house layout and reported staff-to-resident ratio support a personalized approach; family communication and daily updates appear to be regular, which many families found reassuring.

Staff and management: Reviewers consistently characterize staff as friendly, respectful, and caring. Owner-level involvement and identifiable on-site leadership were mentioned positively, and staff were described as responsive during both routine care and more sensitive moments. These elements suggest a management culture that prioritizes relationship-based care and family engagement.

Dining and nutrition: Dining is frequently described as a strength. Reviewers noted high-quality, well-presented meals, accommodation of individual preferences (including sugar-free options), mid-afternoon snacks, and personalized meal service. At the same time, a few comments indicate limited menu rotation at times, with occasional repetition (for example, pizza) that suggests the kitchen may benefit from a clearer published menu cycle or more variety for long-stay residents.

Activities and social life: The program emphasizes individualized activities and celebration of holidays and special days; family gatherings and social events were described as enjoyable and well-run. However, a few visitors said they did not observe activities during their visits, which indicates that activity timing, visibility, or reporting to visitors can be inconsistent. Prospective families should ask about the weekly activity schedule and opportunities for resident participation during tours.

Facilities and housekeeping: The home-like interior, bright common areas, private and shared room options, and a pleasant backyard with fruit trees contribute to a residential feel. At the same time, reviewers noted housekeeping inconsistencies—examples include cobwebs near ceilings, dated bedroom furniture, and occasional countertop clutter in kitchen or common areas. These observations point to opportunities to tighten environmental-maintenance and housekeeping routines.

Notable patterns and guidance for families: Strengths center on compassionate, individualized care, strong family communication, small-community living, and solid meal service. Areas to explore on a visit include current housekeeping standards and how the facility maintains furniture and common spaces, the kitchen’s menu rotation and special-diet management, and the regularity and scheduling of activities. For families seeking a small, family-oriented setting with attentive staff and end-of-life care capability, Columns Care Home appears to be a suitable option; an in-person tour that includes meal sampling and a review of housekeeping and activity schedules is recommended to confirm fit.
