    Compassionate staff and welcoming community

I'm very pleased with our choice - the staff are consistently kind, compassionate, and responsive, and leadership (Tracy/Morgan and team) made touring and the move smooth. The community is bright, exceptionally clean, and welcoming; apartments are lovely, meals are fresh and tasty, and there are lots of activities including dementia-aware programs and bingo. Knowing there's a strong memory-care continuum and attentive caregivers gives me real peace of mind.

    Summary of reviews

Reviews for MorningStar Assisted Living & Memory Care at Applewood present a mixed picture in which clear strengths coexist with recurring operational weaknesses. Positive accounts emphasize a number of caregiving staff who are compassionate, attentive, and willing to go beyond basic duties; several families singled out individual staff and activities personnel for consistently excellent support. The community offers a range of amenities that appeal to residents: bright, well-appointed apartments with pleasant views, home-like common areas, an on-site chef and fresh-meal programming, a varied activities calendar (music, bingo, art, bridge), transportation for outings, and pet-care options. When leadership and staffing are stable, reviewers describe a family-like atmosphere, strong executive direction, and visible improvements to environment and services.

Care quality and clinical oversight are areas of significant variability. Positive reports describe skilled memory-care teams and reliable assistance for residents with higher needs. However, many accounts identify gaps in medication administration, missed or delayed doses, and periods without consistent on-site nursing coverage. These clinical-process weaknesses have been linked by reviewers to delayed responses to resident needs and to instances of resident decline. As a result, families advise close monitoring of medication practices and staffing patterns during tour and admission discussions.

Staffing, training, and safety practices are recurring concerns. Reviewers cite high turnover, inconsistent staffing levels (particularly in memory care), and orientation or training shortfalls for new personnel. Safety practices such as fall-prevention, transfer routines, and wheelchair/seat locking have been described as uneven; maintenance delays (for example leaks or wet floors) have been cited as prolonged hazards. These operational patterns suggest that oversight of daily care routines and of facilities maintenance can be intermittent, and that prospective families should ask about current staffing ratios, clinical leadership coverage, and maintenance response times.

Dining and housekeeping show both praise and criticism. The community has an on-staff chef and multiple reports of appealing meals and special-feature entrees. Conversely, other reviewers describe inconsistent meal temperatures, menu shortages, or limited variety. Cleanliness and sanitation are similarly mixed: many reviewers found the facility clean and odor-free, while others noted cleanliness lapses and odor concerns in particular areas. Infection-control and outbreak-management were explicitly mentioned as uneven in some accounts, indicating the importance of asking about current procedures and recent public-health incidents.

Management, communication, and administrative policies are another dividing line. Positive reviewers note responsive directors and staff who address concerns and implement improvements; some families credit executive leadership with meaningful facility upgrades. At the same time, other reviewers describe weak follow-up, inconsistent front-desk service, confusing billing or Medicaid-acceptance processes, and slow problem resolution. There are also serious individual claims in the record, including allegations of theft and financial misconduct; these merit direct inquiry during visits and review of incident logs and safeguards.

Bottom line: the community demonstrates real strengths — engaged activities, a welcoming physical environment, and many devoted caregivers — but also shows repeated operational shortcomings around staffing consistency, medication management, maintenance responsiveness, and dining/cleanliness continuity. Prospective residents and families should tour when staff and leadership are on site, ask for current staffing ratios and clinical coverage, review recent infection-control and incident records, and obtain written policies on billing and Medicaid to assess whether the community’s current operational state aligns with the level of care required.

    About MorningStar at Applewood

MorningStar Assisted Living & Memory Care at Applewood sits in a nice neighborhood with close access to doctors, cafes, pharmacies, and parks, and you can really see how that helps when folks need appointments or want to get out for a walk in a well-cared-for area, and the community also keeps its own transportation running for medical visits and outings, so people don't worry about getting around. The place works hard to help residents feel at home with a choice of living spaces, including studios and one-bedroom apartments, letting each person decorate and settle in their own way, and even with the stylish touches and pretty courtyards, the atmosphere stays friendly and down-to-earth. The WellStar program gives people daily ways to stay active, whether with fitness rooms, walking paths, games, reading in the library, or joining a group for arts and crafts, and there's always something going on, like scheduled activities, social or educational programs, and even some led by the residents themselves, which can make a big difference, especially when someone wants to keep busy or see friends.

There's a big focus on health and safety, so the staff helps with bathing, dressing, and medications and provides around-the-clock supervision, making sure everyone has access to care no matter what time it is by having nurses, call systems, and even regular visits from doctors, therapists, and sometimes a dentist or podiatrist, which takes a load off families' minds. Memory care is another big part here, and the staff tailors care plans for people living with Alzheimer's or other forms of dementia, offering specialized programs to boost memory, reduce confusion, and keep wandering in check, all while maintaining a secure and supportive area just for those needs, and the fact that the place also features hospice, in-house therapies, and a dedicated wellness director means people in different health situations can still find their footing. Residents get nutritious meals with all-day dining, and there's even attention to food quality and making dining enjoyable because good meals and friendly faces go hand-in-hand here, plus the no-smoking policy indoors and the pet-friendly options mean more comfort and fewer worries for everyone.

Amenities don't get overlooked, with peaceful walking paths, well-kept courtyards, indoor and outdoor gathering spaces, high-speed Wi-Fi, and community kitchens giving people places to spend time, and with beautician and barber services onsite, most daily needs fit right inside the community walls, making life just a bit easier. The two-story building stays safe and accessible, with wheelchair-friendly showers and parking available for residents, and it's all designed so people can age in place, receive more or less support as things change, and maybe even stay with the same neighbors and familiar staff. Reviews often mention the friendly, caring team, the joyful atmosphere, and the regular updates for families, and with the support for both assisted living and memory care and services ranging from homecare to therapy to transportation, folks can count on MorningStar at Applewood to provide reliable help and a sense of stability, even if the price details are only shared in person. The place has won praise and awards for its care, and visitors can tour either in person or virtually to get a feel for daily life there.
