    Caring Spanish-speaking staff, beautiful grounds

I placed my loved one here and feel very comfortable- the caring, Spanish-speaking owner and charming staff go out of their way, and the rooms are spacious and spotlessly clean. Meals are cooked from scratch, and the privately fenced 10-acre lot with nature trails gives residents comfort and our family peace of mind. I highly recommend this facility.

    Summary of reviews

Overall impression: Reviewers convey a largely positive view of Lakewood Retirement Center driven by hands-on management, attentive staff, and a clean, home-like environment. The owner and director are described as personable and actively involved in day-to-day life; the owner prepares meals on-site and is noted for going out of her way to support residents. Families frequently cited reassurance and comfort from the facility’s approach and the availability of Spanish-language communication.

Care and staff: Caregiving personnel and leadership receive consistent praise for being caring and approachable. Several reviewers highlighted direct, attentive interactions and a management team that engages with residents and families. These qualities suggest a resident-centered culture with responsive front-line staff and leadership that is visible and involved.

Dining and nutrition: Dining is a clear strength in terms of food quality—meals reportedly are made from scratch and described as "real food." That said, the dining environment itself is characterized as functional rather than decorative; reviewers described the dining area as utilitarian. Prospective residents who prioritize meal quality will likely be satisfied, but those who value a more social or refined dining atmosphere should expect a basic dining setting.

Activities and engagement: A recurrent concern is limited resident engagement. Reviewers observed periods of idleness among residents and indicated that activity programming may not be robust or varied enough for some individuals. This pattern aligns with comments that the facility can feel geared toward a memory-care rhythm, which may not match the needs of more active or independent residents.

Facilities and grounds: Physical plant and outdoor amenities are strengths. The property is privately fenced (about 10 acres) with nature trails, offering secure outdoor access and a pleasant setting. Interior cleanliness and well-maintained rooms were repeatedly noted. However, room sizes appear inconsistent across the facility, with some units described as small. Additionally, visitors and transport drivers should be aware of a driveway/access challenge that can complicate arrivals.

Management and notable patterns: Management is hands-on; the owner’s direct involvement in cooking and resident care was singled out positively, and the director is portrayed as friendly and accessible. The facility’s operational profile suggests strong personal caregiving and family communication but some limitations in programmatic offerings and physical accommodation variety. Prospective residents and families should weigh the high-touch, home-cooked, small-community aspects against the potential for a memory-care atmosphere, variable room sizes, limited activity programming, and access considerations when deciding if Lakewood meets their needs.

    About Lakewood Retirement Center

Lakewood Retirement Center sits in Daytona Beach, Florida, at 1220 Jimmy Ann Drive, right by sunny outdoor patios and nice garden spaces, so folks can take walks or sit together outside, and this place will remind you of a real neighborhood where people know each other, since Maria has owned and run Lakewood herself for over ten years, so the care feels local and close-knit. The center holds up to 32 residents with both private and semi-private rooms, all kept very clean and comfortable, and you'll see older folks who've lived there for more than a decade. Daily life here brings home-cooked meals served in a dining room with all-day options, and there's planning by staff dieticians for special diets like diabetes and allergies, plus special meals can be made for folks with conditions like hypertension. You get laundry and housekeeping, even dry cleaning for clothes and linens, and there's a barber or beauty shop onsite, sometimes with a mobile stylist who comes in. Seniors get help with daily things like bathing, dressing, and moving around, and nursing staff can handle medication, transfers, and general health, and there's a 24-hour call system for safety, so families and residents can relax a bit more. The activities go from arts and crafts in a dedicated room to story time, music, and game nights, plus active workout and walking programs, and the place will arrange trips to the store, doctor's appointments, and even church if someone wants, and the community holds animal therapy, movie nights, tabletop games, and visiting musical groups, so there's always something to do. You get a furnished, secure setting with an emergency alert system, and Lakewood helps coordinate moves. The gym, sauna, hot tub, and fitness areas stay ready for anyone wanting to stay active, and there's WiFi and TV rooms for relaxing. Residents' guests can join meals, and there's free transportation for errands and outings. Memory care and hospice services are there for folks with dementia, Alzheimer's, or higher need, and independent seniors can stick to their own schedule in semi-private or studio apartments. The place is licensed by Florida and accepts adults 55 and older who speak English or Spanish, with staff helping through VA benefits or financial advice. Meals and programs get planned with residents in mind, focus stays on independence and well-being, and you notice the community feels like an extended family. Lakewood gets recognized with Best of Senior Living Awards, and residents can tour in person or online. It stays a steady, familiar place for seniors to settle in, be cared for kindly, and find ways to keep involved, active, and comfortable.
