    Loving staff, spotless dementia-friendly home

I placed my loved one at The Cottages of Middleton and it feels like home. The staff - especially Nicole and the caregivers - are loving, attentive, and treat residents like family; the building is spotless, cozy, dementia-friendly, and the apartments are spacious with porches. Residents stay active with music, games, painting, outings and staff even set up Zoom calls during COVID, so our family has real peace of mind. Five stars - highly recommended.

    Summary review

Overall impression Many reviewers give The Cottages Assisted Living and Memory Care - Middleton very high marks, with an overwhelmingly positive tone across summaries. The dominant theme is that the community offers a warm, home-like atmosphere where residents are treated with compassion and individualized attention. Families repeatedly emphasize peace of mind and satisfaction with the level of personal care, often using language like "treat residents like family," "loving staff," and "staff go above and beyond." The establishment is portrayed as smaller and intimate, which reviewers link to better staff–resident relationships and more personalized attention.

Staff and management Across the reviews, staff quality is the standout strength. Caregivers, nurses and activities staff are frequently described as kind, patient, gentle and attentive. The administrator—named Nicole/Nichole in multiple reviews—receives repeated, specific praise for strong communication, organization, and hands-on leadership. Many summaries highlight that management communicates well with families, shares photos and updates, and is proactive about residents' needs. Several reviewers cite the activities director and staff by name (for example, Jessica) as instrumental in keeping residents engaged and joyful. While almost all feedback about staff is positive, there are a very small number of isolated comments indicating an unfriendly interaction or dissatisfaction; these are outliers compared with the majority of positive testimonials.

Care quality, dementia support and end-of-life attention Multiple comments point to high-quality, individualized care with a particular strength in dementia specialization. Reviewers mention 24/7 attentive care, staff who understand and accommodate cognitive needs, and compassionate end-of-life support. The community's smaller size and "homey" layout are presented as advantages for residents with memory impairment, creating a cozy, less institutional setting. Several families explicitly state that their loved one is happier and well cared for since moving in, and some describe emotional and social improvements such as forming friendships and increased activity participation.

Activities, social life and engagement Activity offerings are highlighted repeatedly as a major positive: bingo, cards, dancing, singing, music, puzzles, crafts, painting groups, evening activities and offsite field trips. Reviewers describe well-organized parties, celebrations, and regular group engagement that contribute to residents' quality of life. Staff involvement in activities is frequently noted, as are weekly Zoom meetings and photo sharing that keep families connected to the day-to-day life of residents. The social program is presented not just as entertainment but as an enrichment that fosters friendships and emotional well-being.

Facilities, cleanliness and amenities Most reviews praise the physical environment: clean, cozy cottages or studio apartments, bright dining areas with open-view kitchens, porches on apartments, a gated outdoor area, game room and a generally well-kept building. The small-facility scale is seen as an advantage for a "family" feel. A few minor housekeeping or maintenance observations appear (one mention of cluttered kitchen cabinets around a sink), but these are not recurrent themes. Overall, the facility is commonly described as spotless and comfortable.

Dining and inconsistent complaints Many reviewers commend the food ("amazing food," "delicious home-cooked meals"), though there is at least one explicit and strongly negative comment describing "horrible food" and "poor cooking." This suggests that dining experiences are perceived positively by most families but that there may be occasional variability or subjective differences in expectations. Because the majority praise the meals but a minority report poor quality, prospective families may want to sample the food and ask about menu variation to confirm fit.

Notable concerns and COVID-19 response The primary operational downside mentioned across summaries is visitation limitations during COVID-19; however, reviewers consistently note that staff mitigated this by facilitating Zoom/virtual visits and arranging weekly conference calls, which families appreciated. Other concerns, though uncommon, include a report of limited care for one resident ("meds only" with family doing laundry) and a single note about some tenants being unhappy or staff not friendly—both isolated compared to the volume of positive feedback. Another recurring operational point is limited capacity and the presence of a waiting list, reflecting the small size and high demand for the community.

Overall assessment and takeaways Taken together, the reviews portray The Cottages of Middleton as a small, well-run assisted living and memory care community with exceptional staff, strong leadership, active programming, and a family-oriented culture. Strengths are particularly strong around compassionate caregiving, dementia-sensitive practices, clean comfortable spaces, frequent activities and excellent family communication. Prospective residents and families should be aware of possible variability in dining and individual care experiences (as reported by a few reviewers), and understand that the facility's small scale can mean a waiting list. For most reviewers the positives far outweigh the negatives; many explicitly recommend the community and describe relief and satisfaction after placement. If considering The Cottages, visitors should meet leadership (Nicole), sample the meal, ask about care-plan specifics and waitlist procedures, and discuss any particular medical or household needs (laundry, specialized nursing) to ensure alignment with expectations.

About The Cottages Assisted Living and Memory Care - Middleton

The Cottages Assisted Living and Memory Care - Middleton sits on Main Street, right on the corner of Main and Cemetery Road, and the smaller home-like community gives it a peaceful and familiar feeling for residents who may really need that. The place offers both assisted living and specialized memory care for people dealing with Alzheimer's or other kinds of dementia, and the staff have special training to work with residents who need some extra memory support, making sure everyone stays safe with Wanderguard safety features, locked entrances, and 24-hour supervision. Secure rooms are available-both private and semi-private-and you'll find all the homes and common areas are furnished and set up for comfort, with beautifully landscaped gardens right outside so someone can enjoy a bit of fresh air. Residents can choose assisted living or memory care, based on what kind of help they need, and there are also options for adult day programs and respite care if families need a short-term solution or just a break during the day.

The team, including a nurse on staff, helps with things like bathing, dressing, medication management, and transfer assistance, and every resident gets a care plan designed just for them. The staff keeps an eye out all day and night, with a compassionate group led by Executive Director Maddi Thweatt who makes sure things run smoothly. There are also on-site health services and diabetic care, with non-ambulatory support if needed. Residents get chef-prepared meals with snacks included, and there's an effort to help with dietary needs. Cleaning and laundry services come standard, and people can even choose self-serve laundry if that's something they want to keep up with. There's scheduled transportation for doctor visits or community outings, and parking for those who drive or have family visiting.

Social engagement matters here, and The Cottages has all sorts of activities, recreational programs, and educational events, with the staff setting up devotional activities, fitness programs, and things that are just plain fun. Caregivers work to build real connections since the small setting makes it easier to know everyone's routine, mood, and little preferences, which can really help folks feel at ease. The community stays licensed by the State of Idaho, and the renovated Memory Care unit runs at a base rate of $4,500 per month while the newer Assisted Living home starts at $4,300 per month. The focus stays on safety, comfort, and giving people a way to keep up with their interests in a secure setting that feels less like an institution and more like a home.
