Alexis and her team are compassionate, responsive, and treat residents like family - regular updates, photos, and smooth transition eased our minds. The home-like facility is clean, bright, and well run with lovely rooms, great activities/outings, and personalized memory and end-of-life care. Mom is safe, happy, and thriving - I highly recommend this exceptional, caring staff.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews is strongly positive: families and residents consistently praise The Gables Memory Care of Shelley for its compassionate, personalized approach to memory and dementia care. The facility is repeatedly described as home-like, intimate, and well maintained. Many reviewers emphasize that care feels like family care — staff are characterized as loving, patient, respectful, and attentive. Leadership and administration receive particular recognition, with multiple mentions of the administrator Alexis (and other staff like Ashley and Sarah) as highly capable, communicative, and hands-on. This leadership is credited with creating an environment of trust and consistent communication with families, including regular photo updates and timely notifications about changes in residents’ conditions.

Care quality and clinical support are recurring strengths in the reviews. Families report individualized care plans, empathetic caregivers, overnight support, and competent memory-support strategies appropriate for dementia. Several accounts highlight exceptional end-of-life care, noting close collaboration with hospice and outside agencies and a seamless, compassionate approach during difficult transitions. The teamwork culture is emphasized — staff are described as non-territorial and willing to coordinate with external clinicians to meet residents’ needs. That combination of memory-care expertise and family-focused support gives many reviewers a strong sense of peace of mind.

Facilities and environment are another consistent theme: reviewers describe clean, sunny, bright rooms with tasteful, home-like decor. The physical layout includes multiple comfortable gathering spaces — a dining area, movie room, kitchen-style table areas, and a welcoming fireplace. Rooms come in two sizes and often have large windows; reviewers say the facility is well-maintained, with cheerful common areas and overall a cozy, upscale atmosphere. The small scale (noted as a 16-bed memory care) contributes to the intimate, personalized feel, though that same small size is noted in the cons as potentially limiting for availability and not being the right fit for everyone.

Activities, dining, and engagement receive frequent praise: staff plan creative, interactive programs and outings that keep residents engaged and happy, and management is said to proactively encourage participation. Meals are described positively by several reviewers (with words like “gourmet” used in at least one summary), and the dining environment is seen as pleasant and homey. However, there are a few isolated negative comments about food quality; one reviewer specifically said the food was “not good,” indicating that dining experiences may vary.

Communication and transition processes are standout strengths. Multiple families describe a smooth move-in, proactive transfer assistance, and ongoing, clear communication from staff — including photos and status updates. Staff are noted for being responsive to questions, quick to contact family when issues arise, and supportive during both routine care and crises. These behaviors underpin many reviewers’ strong recommendations and give families confidence in the operational reliability of the facility.

Notable concerns and patterns: cost is the most commonly cited drawback — several reviews explicitly call the pricing high or “ridiculous” for the level of care, even while acknowledging high quality. A small number of reviewers noted occasional lapses in follow-through (for example, promises not kept or personal items thrown out), and one reviewer said the placement was “not the right fit” for their mother. There is also limited explicit commentary in these summaries about staffing ratios or clinical staffing levels beyond the quality of interpersonal care reported, which may be something prospective families want to clarify in person. Finally, while most residents are described as happy and thriving, a few comments acknowledge that residents may not always be happy to be there — an expected reality for some individuals entering memory care.

In conclusion, the reviews paint The Gables Memory Care of Shelley as a small, high-touch memory care home with strong leadership, compassionate staff, excellent communication, and a warm, well-appointed environment. It appears especially well suited for families seeking personalized dementia care, strong end-of-life support, and frequent family engagement. Prospective families should balance the high praise with attention to cost, confirm dining preferences and menu quality if that is important, and ask about availability given the facility’s small size. Overall, the prevailing impression is one of a caring, professional community that many reviewers highly recommend.

About The Gables Memory Care of Shelley

The Gables Memory Care of Shelley sits in Shelley, Idaho, as a licensed memory care and assisted living facility built to provide a secure place for people living with dementia, Alzheimer's, or other memory challenges, and you'll notice right away that locked doors and safe outdoor areas like walking paths and a quiet patio help keep residents from wandering, which is good for folks who tend to forget where they are or what they're doing sometimes, and the smaller 16-bed setup makes it feel homey without being overwhelming. The staff stays on site around the clock, with nursing support available at all times too, and they're specially trained to work with people with cognitive issues, so residents will get help with medications, bathing, dressing, grooming, eating, and moving around if needed, and someone's always watching out for health changes or emergencies with personal pendants and emergency call systems ready day or night. The rooms are fairly spacious, with wheelchairs and walkers in mind, and each has a kitchenette plus a private bathroom, which lets residents keep some independence but still have help nearby. The staff creates individual care plans for every resident, working with doctors and families, and help out with daily needs like laundry, housekeeping, and managing schedules for things like therapy, medical appointments, or even hospice services if that's needed, and residents can go on arranged transportation trips if there's somewhere they need to be.

People living here enjoy three home-cooked meals every day, with staff taking care to make them nutritious and tasty, and snacks are available as well if someone gets hungry between meals. The staff plans regular daily activities, like movie nights, bingo, board games, music, trivia, crafts, and even some worship services, all tailored for memory care so it's easier for everyone to stay involved, plus there are gentle exercise sessions and walks in the garden so people can stay active without feeling lost or unsafe. The Gables Memory Care of Shelley tries to make daily life feel like home by encouraging residents to bring their own decorations or things from home to their rooms and giving small touches that help with comfort, routine, and reducing confusion, which is important when memory's not what it used to be. Friendly staff support social activity and companionship between residents, and the community tries to make everyone feel cared for, using patience and a gentle approach, focusing on treating people like family, and giving them a real sense that they belong. Families can also use short-term respite care or adult day care, letting caregivers take breaks while knowing their loved ones receive proper attention and support. The facility accepts pets, provides high-speed internet, and supports handicap accessibility, making it easier for residents to keep up with some of the things they always enjoyed. The Gables Memory Care of Shelley is part of The Gables network, which means it follows a tried-and-true approach, with high marks from residents and families alike, but the most important thing might be that it's a safe, steady place for people needing memory support, where help's always at hand and everyone does their best to offer both structured care and familiar comforts.
