    Unsafe care despite compassionate staff

I had mixed but ultimately alarming experiences. Some nurses and aides were compassionate, professional, and treated my loved one like family; memory-care activities and certain staff were excellent. But the building is outdated, sometimes dirty and smelly, with unclean sheets and cups. More seriously, care was inconsistent and unsafe: meds (including insulin) and pain relief were often delayed or missed - we had a dangerously high blood sugar and an ER visit - and I saw patients apparently sedated to avoid care. Staff were kind but clearly overwhelmed and short-staffed, call bells were slow, follow-ups ignored, and management unresponsive. Until staffing, medication safety, and cleanliness improve, I cannot recommend admission.

    Summary review

The reviews for Harrison Healthcare Center present a highly polarized and inconsistent picture of care quality. A number of reviewers enthusiastically describe compassionate, attentive staff and strong short-term rehabilitation outcomes. Positive comments highlight caregivers who "go above and beyond," personalized attention from named staff members, engaging memory-care activities, and an overall people-focused culture. Several reviewers praised the cleanliness and housekeeping, the building itself, and described their stays as reassuring and worry-free.

Counterbalancing those positives are numerous, serious concerns reported by other reviewers. Recurring complaints center on missed or delayed medications (including pain medications and a reported failure to administer insulin), long nurse call bell response times, and staff who are inconsistent or unprofessional in following instructions. Several accounts describe alarming safety incidents — one reviewer reported a blood sugar of 800 with subsequent ER care and coma, while others mentioned beds not being lowered, patients left unable to get out of bed, and allegations of patients being sedated to avoid providing care. These are not isolated operational gripes but serious clinical-safety concerns that multiple reviewers emphasized.

Staffing and management issues are a prominent theme. Many reviewers said staff are kind but overwhelmed, explicitly calling for more CNAs and RNs. There are multiple reports of missed appointments, ignored physician follow-ups, billing concerns, and a perception that the facility is poorly run or in need of new management. Where care was praised, reviewers often attributed positive outcomes to specific caregivers or teams; where care failed, reviewers pointed to understaffing, poor communication, or leadership failures as root causes.

Facility conditions and food quality are described as highly variable. Some reviewers called the facility very clean with delicious meals, while others reported dirty sheets, unclean cups, smelly or outdated areas, and unpalatable food. Housekeeping was sometimes singled out as doing a good job but other times sidewalks and entryways were noted as needing cleaning. This variability suggests uneven standards across units or shifts rather than uniformly maintained facility-wide practices.

There is a distinct pattern of bifurcated experiences: families who encountered engaged, caring staff and clear rehabilitation plans had positive stays, while others experienced neglect, safety lapses, or clinical errors that led them to strongly advise against admission. Memory-care activities and certain staff members receive consistent praise, indicating pockets of strength within the facility. However, the frequency and severity of negative reports — including allegations of medication failures and safety incidents — are significant and warrant caution.

Recommendations for prospective residents and families based on these reviews: verify current staffing levels (CNAs/RNs), ask about medication administration protocols and backup orders, request recent inspection or incident records, meet direct-care staff who will be assigned (including nursing leadership), and observe cleanliness and mealtime practices in person. If a loved one is medically complex (e.g., requires insulin or frequent PRN pain management), insist on clear written care plans and direct confirmation of timely medication administration. The facility appears capable of providing excellent, compassionate care in many cases, but variability and repeated safety-focused complaints mean families should perform thorough due diligence and insist on specific guarantees and monitoring if they choose Harrison Healthcare Center.
