    Caring residents, negligent staff, unsafe

I loved the residents and some caregivers were genuinely caring, creating a family-like atmosphere, but my experience was marred by rude, sometimes negligent staff and unhelpful management. The facility is older and homey but poorly maintained - ants, broken equipment, understaffing, safety incidents (a fall, even chemical exposure) and terrible communication made me worry. I would not trust this place with a loved one.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews for Indian Creek Healthcare Center is highly polarized. A substantial number of reviewers praise the frontline caregiving staff — nurses, CNAs, and aides are frequently described as compassionate, hardworking, and patient, particularly in the facility’s dementia and secure care units. Several family members report clear communication about their loved ones’ care, appreciate dog visits, and describe a family-like atmosphere with good teamwork. These reviewers often say residents appear content and well cared for, and some explicitly recommend the facility for dementia care.

Conversely, a significant and recurring set of concerns appears across many reviews. Management and supervisory behavior is repeatedly criticized as disrespectful or rude, and there are multiple reports of poor communication, unhelpful supervisors, blame-shifting, and staff morale problems. Understaffing and high turnover are common themes and are tied to reports of neglected needs, falls, and other safety incidents. Several reviews allege serious safety failures: chemical burns, a fall incident, and general worries about unsafe equipment and inadequate personal protective equipment (PPE). These safety issues are particularly alarming because they indicate systemic problems rather than isolated lapses.

Facility condition and maintenance issues are another major cluster of complaints. Reviewers mention a range of problems: broken garbage disposal, TVs delayed in setup due to maintenance, a thermostat blocked by junk, cluttered rooms, hard beds, and antiquated rooms and furnishings. Hygiene and pest control also arise as critical problems in negative reviews — there are explicit reports of an ant infestation originating near a shower wall and broader complaints of poor cleanliness. Some reviewers say dishes are washed by hand and the environment is "not sterile," raising infection control concerns.

The reviews contain serious allegations of mistreatment and unethical behavior that warrant investigation. Multiple reviewers use strong language (abuse, cruelty, bullying) and express a desire for accountability or justice. There are also reports alleging discrimination, staff members staying in empty resident rooms, and family members being hung up on by nurses. These accounts, combined with claims of understaffing and low morale, suggest organizational and leadership problems that may be contributing to inconsistent resident experiences.

Despite the troubling reports, several reviewers provide high praise and 5-star endorsements, indicating that care quality may vary significantly by unit, shift, or staff present. Strengths repeatedly credited — skilled dementia care, kindness of many caregivers, secure memory care, and a family-friendly feel — suggest that the facility has competent and committed direct-care staff. However, those strengths appear to be undermined for many families by leadership, maintenance, safety, and sanitation failures.

Patterns and implications: the most frequent and consequential themes are (1) inconsistent quality of care with polarized experiences, (2) management and communication failures, (3) safety and maintenance deficits that could pose direct harm to residents, and (4) staffing shortages and morale problems. Taken together, the reviews portray a facility with valuable strengths in frontline caregiving and memory care but with systemic operational and leadership issues that create serious risks and uneven resident outcomes.

If using these reviews to inform a decision, consider verifying current staffing levels, licensing and inspection records, and any recent corrective actions (especially regarding pest control, infection prevention, equipment safety, and reported incidents). Prospective families should request to tour the facility, observe multiple units and shifts if possible, speak directly with frontline staff and management about the specific concerns raised here, and ask for documentation of staff training, incident reports, and maintenance logs. For the facility, priorities suggested by the review patterns would include improving leadership and communication, addressing pest control and maintenance failures promptly, ensuring adequate PPE and safety checks, and stabilizing staffing and morale to reduce the risk of harm and to make the facility’s positive caregiving strengths more consistent.

    About Indian Creek Healthcare Center

Indian Creek Healthcare Center sits at 240 Beechmont Dr NE in Corydon, Indiana, and it's been part of the community for 41 years, quietly serving people who need both short-term and long-term care, now being managed by Ms. Samantha Lawson as the Administrator and part of the CommuniCare Family of Companies, which is one of the bigger providers of post-acute care in the country, so there's some stability behind it, and while the building's a little older and could probably use some sprucing up, folks still find the care offered here to be thorough and compassionate. The Center focuses on skilled nursing and rehabilitation, helping residents recover or manage ongoing health issues with services like physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, memory care, wound care, hospice, and palliative care. All the care programs are tailored to each person's needs, and residents' well-being-both physical and emotional-is an important part of what staff pay attention to, with a caring and professional team. The Center includes specific programs for memory care and provides a secure area for people with Alzheimer's or other forms of dementia, including alert systems if someone tries to leave, secure outdoor areas, and trained staff, which can be a relief for families worried about safety. The Center doesn't have much information available about the building's parking, exterior, or internet access, but inside, there's a full range of medical and nursing services, and activities happen regularly-things like game nights, birthday parties, and therapy dog visits-helping people stay involved and connected. Staff encourage ongoing conversations with both doctors and family members, so care can adjust along the way as residents' needs change, and there's a feeling of partnership in making sure everyone gets the right support. Indian Creek Healthcare Center has handled care as a nursing home, offering intermediate care for residents who need consistent nursing help, as well as helping people transition home after a hospital stay. The facility isn't accredited by the BBB, but it's still kept a spot on the BBB's records since 2020 and keeps serving the Corydon area, always focused on providing dependable care and comfortable support to every resident who comes through the doors.
