    Warm staff but understaffing risks

I found the facility warm and family-like - clean, well-kept building, friendly admissions and office staff, attentive CNAs and therapy team, engaging activities and generally happy residents. However, chronic understaffing led to slow or reactive nursing, safety and cleanliness lapses (missed meds, delayed responses to falls, hygiene/issues with linens and belongings), so I'd recommend it for rehab/short stays but would be cautious about long-term placement unless staffing improves.

    Summary review

Overall impression: Reviews present a polarized but informative picture. A substantial portion of reviewers praise Majestic Care of Newburgh for its clean, modern facility; warm, family-like atmosphere; and many attentive, compassionate front-line staff members. Therapy services, admissions and administration staff, and activity programs receive frequent positive mention. However, a notable subset of reviews describe serious operational and clinical problems tied largely to understaffing, inconsistent nursing responsiveness, and lapses in basic hygiene and safety. The result is a facility that for many families delivers excellent rehabilitation and long-term care, and for some appears to have critical gaps that compromise safety and wellbeing.

Care quality and staff: The dominant positive theme is staff who are caring, empathetic, and hands-on. CNAs, some nurses, therapists, and specific admissions/office staff are repeatedly commended by name for attentive, family-focused care, emotional support, and effective therapy that led to good rehab outcomes. Several reviewers explicitly say residents are treated like family and note continuity of staff as reassuring. At the same time, a consistent negative theme is understaffing and overworked personnel. Many reports describe slow nurse responsiveness, long medication pass delays (an example cited was a three-hour delay), and times when aides or nurses could not be located after a fall. Some clinical issues are severe: failures in tracheostomy care, inadequate oxygen monitoring, unsafe situations where bed rails or pads were not provided, and wound or infection care that family members deemed inadequate. This suggests variability in clinical competency and staffing levels across shifts or units.

Facilities, cleanliness, and housekeeping: Numerous reviewers highlight a clean, modern, well-kept building with pleasant smells, an inviting courtyard, and family-oriented communal spaces. Activity programming — holiday events, pet visits, fishing trips, and other outings — is frequently praised and appears to contribute notably to resident wellbeing and family satisfaction. Conversely, a number of reviews describe significant housekeeping failures: soiled bed linen, infrequent showers (one reviewer cited only 3 showers in 31 days), trash or smells in halls, and generally unsanitary conditions during some periods. These opposing accounts indicate that housekeeping standards may fluctuate, likely tied to staffing and management oversight.

Dining and activities: Dining opinions are mixed but skew positive overall. Many residents and families praise the dietary team as attentive and responsive, with meals described as delicious by some reviewers. Other accounts, however, describe poor or insufficient food — 'slop', sandwiches for extended periods, and resulting weight loss in frail residents. Activity offerings are a strong positive theme: multiple family events, holiday programming, pet visits, and therapy-integrated activities contribute to a lively atmosphere and are repeatedly mentioned as beneficial.

Safety incidents, clinical monitoring, and outcomes: Several reviews recount serious safety incidents: unattended falls, delays locating staff after a fall, weight loss, wound infections, and alleged neglect of residents requiring specialized medical care (eg, trach patients). These reports are contrasted with many accounts of good nursing care and effective therapy. Medication handling is another area of concern for some families: delayed medication passes and allegations of medication overcharging emerge in the negative comments. These are high-impact concerns that suggest systemic issues in certain units or at certain times and underscore the importance of consistent clinical oversight and adequate staffing.

Management and variability over time: Multiple reviewers note positive changes under new leadership and a refreshing atmosphere tied to administrative professionalism and empathy; specific office staff are lauded for smooth admissions and ongoing support. At the same time, some reviews call out terrible management and suggest that reported good reviews may come from staff or be unevenly representative. The overall pattern is one of variability: many families have excellent, reassuring experiences while others report severe lapses. Outbreak-related stress and negative media coverage were mentioned as contextual factors that may have strained resources and affected performance during peak times.

Conclusion and interpretation: The reviews indicate that Majestic Care of Newburgh has many strengths — a modern, welcoming physical environment; dedicated CNAs, therapists, and some strong nursing and administrative personnel; robust activity programming; and the capacity to provide very effective rehab and comforting long-term care. However, persistent and recurring criticisms around understaffing, inconsistent nursing responsiveness, hygiene lapses, safety incidents, and clinical monitoring failures are serious and cannot be ignored. These issues appear episodic rather than universal, suggesting variability by unit, shift, or time period, and may be partially mitigated by leadership changes and increased staffing. For prospective residents and families, the facility seems capable of excellent care in many cases but also carries risk of inconsistent experiences; asking specific questions about staffing levels, nurse-to-resident ratios, fall-prevention protocols, wound and trach care procedures, medication administration practices, and recent inspection outcomes would be prudent. Families currently using the facility who note problems should escalate concerns to administration immediately and document incidents, while families considering placement should request references from recent families in the same unit and confirm current staffing and clinical safeguards.
