    Cozy, compassionate care; visiting restrictions

I placed my aunt here and I'm very pleased - small, cozy, and spotless with attentive, compassionate staff (special shoutout to nurse TJ). Daily activities (bingo, exercise, church, salon), a pleasant dining area and generally good meals make it feel like home. Communication is good and care is personalized, though a few administrative/staff members can be abrupt and visiting/COVID restrictions (mealtime limits, no kids under 12) are frustrating. Overall I highly recommend it.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment: Reviews for Tender Touch Heart & Home are predominantly positive, with consistent praise for hands-on caregiving, cleanliness, and a home-like environment. Many reviewers emphasize the facility’s personal, attentive approach to residents — noting that staff are engaged, proactive, and compassionate. The facility’s smaller scale is frequently described as an asset, contributing to a cozy, family-style atmosphere and individualized care that many families appreciate. Several reviewers explicitly state they would highly recommend the facility and contrast it favorably against prior, larger facilities.

Care quality and staff: The strongest and most repeated theme is the quality of direct caregiving. Multiple comments call out caregiving staff as attentive, compassionate, and focused on residents’ individual likes and dislikes. Families report that personal care is not automated and that staff members take time to address resident needs. There are specific shout-outs to individual caregivers (for example, an “awesome nurse TJ”), indicating meaningful positive relationships between staff and families. Reviewers describe the employees as friendly and note that the facility is generally well-staffed, which supports daily activities and personal attention.

Facilities and environment: The building and grounds receive high marks for cleanliness and upkeep. Common areas are described as fresh, well-maintained, and pleasantly furnished. The dining area is repeatedly commended for good lighting, nice tables and chairs, and an overall pleasant atmosphere. Outdoor amenities such as a courtyard, porch, and walking area are noted as positive features that add to the home-like feel. The facility’s smaller size is often cited as a benefit; however, that same small scale leads to limitations in physical space—multiple reviewers mention that resident rooms are small and there are no adjoining rooms, which could be a drawback for couples or those wanting larger personal spaces.

Dining and meals: Most reviews indicate that meals are good and well-prepared, and that dining is an enjoyable part of the day for many residents. The quality of food is a recurring positive, and the pleasant dining room environment reinforces that impression. A minority of comments reference occasional dips or limitations in meals and some mentions of “limited meals,” so while dining is generally favorable, a few reviewers have noted inconsistencies or times when meal options were less satisfactory.

Activities and engagement: Tender Touch offers a broad mix of activities that appeal to residents’ social and spiritual needs. Frequent mentions include bingo, cards, dominoes, exercise classes, sing-alongs, church services, guest musicians, and a weekly salon. Reviewers also highlight daily gatherings and regular exercise sessions. An activity bus is available for outings, though some reviewers noted they had not used it yet — suggesting either limited utilization or that outings may be infrequent for some residents. Overall, activity programming appears robust for a smaller facility and contributes to residents feeling engaged.

Management and administration: The most consistent area of concern involves administrative and front-office interactions. Several reviewers describe administrative staff as abrupt, rude, ill-mannered, or unprofessional when dealing with families. These reports stand in contrast to the overwhelmingly positive descriptions of caregiving staff, indicating an inconsistency between clinical/care teams and administrative/front-desk personnel. This divergence is notable because administrative interactions often form the family’s impression of overall professionalism and can affect family satisfaction even when care is excellent.

Visiting policies and restrictions: Multiple summaries reference COVID-related visiting regulations and limits, including restrictions on visiting during mealtimes and a policy preventing children under 12 from visiting. Some reviewers framed these as restrictive, noting specific limits on visiting hours. These policies may reflect pandemic-era or safety-oriented procedures, but they have been a source of frustration for some families and should be considered when evaluating family access and visitation experience.

Patterns, trade-offs, and recommendations: The overall pattern is a small, clean, and affordable facility that delivers strong personal care, good meals, and engaging activities. The trade-offs appear to be related to administrative communication and some physical limitations (small rooms, no adjoining rooms), plus periodic issues around visiting policies and occasional dips in meal variety. For prospective families, the key strengths are the caregiver-to-resident relationships, the home-like environment, and the active programming. Areas to probe further during tours or meetings would include administrative responsiveness and tone, specific visitation policies, room sizes and availability of larger or adjoining rooms, and the consistency of meal options.

Bottom line: Tender Touch Heart & Home is generally viewed very positively for direct care, cleanliness, and a warm, small-facility atmosphere. The main caveats are interpersonal issues with some administrative staff and practical limitations in room size and visitation rules. Families prioritizing personalized caregiving, activities, and a homelike setting are likely to find the facility a strong fit; families for whom administrative communication and visitor flexibility are critical may want to discuss those concerns directly with management before committing.

About Tender Touch Heart & Home

Tender Touch Heart & Home sits in a building that used to be a school, so you'll see touches of that old charm across the second and third floors, where 19 apartments are set up-most are large studios and there's one even bigger one-bedroom apartment that fits folks needing more space. Each apartment gives you a roomy living area, a bathroom with a walk-in shower, storage in the kitchen, and things people often ask for like cable TV, free Wi-Fi, a phone jack, microwave, and mini fridge, plus all the rooms have an emergency call button, which brings peace of mind to families and residents alike. Meals happen in a shared dining room, with kitchenettes in apartments for when you want to make a snack, and there's always someone nearby to help with reminders for medicine, check-ins for wound care, or lend a hand with bathing, dressing, and all the things that help people feel steady and confident in daily living. The cost is all-inclusive, meaning you pay one fee for the apartment and services, so there aren't any surprise charges that pop up later.

Everyone who lives here can join in on group activities in the media room, spend time outside on the grounds, or meet up in spacious family lounges on every floor; and it's never quiet for long, since staff plan events and support groups that welcome both residents and visitors from the broader neighborhood. Folks at Tender Touch Heart & Home can count on help with transportation to shopping, appointments, or local outings, and the staff are on-site all day and all night, ready to assist or just spend time visiting. This place takes Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity seriously, making sure no resident gets unfair treatment-care and attention is for everyone, which is at the heart of how things are run. Individual care plans are the norm here, from help with daily activities to medication management or dietary counseling, all shaped around what each person truly needs. Family, friends, and neighbors gather often, making the community feel lively and homey, with a vintage style that keeps things warm and calming.

Since opening back in 2003, Tender Touch Heart & Home-owned by Dona and Roger McCurry-has built a name for treating residents with kindness while supporting both assisted living and memory care needs, meaning residents who need more reminders or hands-on help can still feel respected and at ease. There's always staff trained in both clinical care and compassion, and with all the amenities, group activities, and the spirit of togetherness under one roof, there's never a shortage of comfort, familiarity, and support.
