    Compassionate care but inconsistent safety

I had a mixed experience at Parkview: many caregivers were compassionate, hardworking, and provided excellent rehab-focused care in a clean, friendly facility, but I also saw troubling neglect-missed feedings and bathing, bedsores, heavy medications, and reports of stolen clothing. Because care was inconsistent and sometimes unsafe, I can't fully recommend it.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment in these reviews is strongly positive but punctuated by serious negative allegations. A majority of reviewers praise Landmark of Elkhorn City for delivering compassionate, attentive care—particularly in memory care and rehabilitation services—while highlighting a clean, well-kept environment and an engaging, residential atmosphere. Many writers explicitly recommend the facility, call it "the best" or "phenomenal," and single out individual caregivers (Michelle and Cheryl) and the nursing staff for strong, sensitive care of their family members.

Care quality and clinical focus: Multiple reviews emphasize excellent nursing and rehabilitation-focused care. Reviewers report that the staff are attentive to residents' clinical and emotional needs, and several family members say the facility properly cared for grandparents and a parent. Memory care is repeatedly described as strong, suggesting staff skill and appropriate programming for residents with cognitive impairment. That said, a subset of reviews contains very serious complaints—neglect in feeding and hygiene, development of bedsores, and claims of heavy antipsychotic medication use—that contrast sharply with the positive majority. These allegations, if accurate, indicate potentially severe lapses in basic care and medication management and warrant direct follow-up and investigation.

Staff, communication, and relationships: The dominant theme is that staff are caring, responsive, and hardworking. Reviewers note staff members who answer questions and communicate with families, and several name specific caregivers as exemplary. The repeat emphasis on "compassionate staff," "wonderful caregivers," and employees who "care about their staff and residents" indicates strong interpersonal relationships and a family-like culture in many reviewers' experiences. However, the existence of reviews reporting theft of clothing and unsafe care suggests inconsistency—care quality and reliability may vary by shift, unit, or over time.

Facility, cleanliness, and atmosphere: The facility is frequently described as clean and well-kept, though reviewers also note it is not new or particularly fancy. The residential, lively atmosphere—mentions of fresh air, games, and activities—indicates that social programming and quality of life are strengths. Cleanliness and upkeep were commonly praised, reinforcing the sense of a well-managed environment in most accounts.

Concerns and patterns to note: While many reviews are glowing, the negative comments are serious and specific: not being fed or bathed, bedsores, alleged overmedication with antipsychotics, and theft. These are not minor complaints and, even if reported by a minority of reviewers, should be treated as red flags. The presence of such allegations alongside many positive reports suggests variability in resident experiences. Potential explanations could include isolated incidents, differences between units (memory care vs. general), staff turnover, or timing of stays. One review also references problems at a different facility (Parkview), which appears to be a comparator rather than a description of Landmark; some reviewers may be contrasting Landmark favorably against other local options.

Bottom line: Most reviewers recommend Landmark of Elkhorn City for its compassionate staff, effective memory and rehab care, cleanliness, and engaging activities. However, the small but impactful set of reports about neglect, bedsores, overmedication, and theft cannot be ignored. Prospective residents and families should weigh the predominately positive feedback against these serious allegations, ask specific questions during visits (staffing levels, medication policies, incident reporting, laundering and inventory procedures, wound/skin care protocols), request recent inspection reports, and seek references from multiple current families to understand consistency of care.
