    Homey, caring staff; safety concerns

I feel at home here - the facility is clean, staff are friendly, caring and mostly professional, medication reminders are punctual, meals feel homemade, activities are engaging, and it's affordable and better value than at-home care. However, I experienced unprofessional behavior, a safety incident and a short-notice discharge that were poorly handled and left me shaken. Overall I trust the place but recommend with reservations.

    About Dogwood Retreat

Dogwood Retreat sits on a quiet, private property at 35 Clearview Drive, Hartford, KY 42347, and you'll notice it's close to just about everything folks might need-like parks, pharmacies, places of worship, hospitals, restaurants, and theaters, so getting to local spots isn't a problem, and the peaceful surroundings give it a calm, relaxing feel that's good for slowing down and enjoying the outdoors. The facility takes only twelve residents, so it feels more like a small, close-knit group than a big building, and everyone helps look out for one another, with caregivers staying involved and families always welcome. There's a range of rooms, often furnished and ready for each person to decorate as their own, and plenty of shared spaces-like the dining room, indoor common areas, garden, and walking paths-where folks can gather, relax, or just spend some time together.

Dogwood Retreat offers a variety of care types, so it works for people who need different levels of support, including assisted living, board and care home services, skilled nursing, hospice, adult day services, memory care for folks with Alzheimer's or dementia, and independent living for those who want a social, hassle-free lifestyle but don't need a lot of help. The friendly, fully-trained staff handle daily needs-such as bathing, dressing, medication management, transfers, and even help for folks who are non-ambulatory or need incontinence and diabetic care-while always offering 24-hour supervision in case someone needs something at any hour. If someone needs special meals, like diabetes-friendly or allergy-sensitive diets, the kitchen makes meals to order and uses quality ingredients; and residents can eat together in the dining room if they wish.

Residents find activities most days and don't have to go far for something social, educational, or just fun. There are on-site programs scheduled daily, movie nights, community-sponsored events, and off-site outings into the town or to a local park, with transportation arranged for doctor visits or special trips. Seniors living at Dogwood Retreat can get devotional activities in the home or attend off-site services if they want. The move-in process is coordinated for them, making the transition a bit easier, and the staff help keep the place clean and comfortable through regular housekeeping. Everyone stays connected, as the building offers Wi-Fi, high-speed internet, and phone services, so reaching out to loved ones or healthcare providers is simple. With support from executive director Kathy Bevil and the staff, Dogwood Retreat feels like a well-cared-for place where each person can settle in, get the help they need, stay active, and enjoy a bit of peace and quiet in Hartford, KY.
