    Personalized care in home-like community

I had an excellent experience - the staff treated me like family and went above and beyond with personalized care (medications managed, learned my preferences, even brought cookies and books to my room). The small, home-like community is clean, beautiful, full of activities and companionship, and I felt well cared for through COVID. I highly recommend this kind, professional team.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the provided review summaries is largely positive about day-to-day resident life, staff behavior, and the physical environment, but there are notable and serious concerns around management practices and pricing that have led some families to leave. Many reviewers emphasize a small, home-like atmosphere where staff are caring, attentive, and willing to go above and beyond. Specific examples cited include staff treating residents like family, learning and accommodating individual preferences, delivering cookies to rooms, providing books, and actively managing medications. Reviewers also reported that residents were well cared for during COVID, which suggests consistent clinical attention and pandemic-era responsiveness.

Care quality and staff interactions emerge as the strongest themes. Multiple summaries describe individualized or personalized care, nurturing and kind interactions, and staff who proactively create companionship and activities. The language used — staff treating residents like family, going above and beyond, and providing tailored touches such as cookies and books — indicates a high level of personal attention. Medication management is mentioned explicitly, and the facility is seen as providing appropriate assisted care for those who do not require memory care services.

Facilities and cleanliness are also frequently praised. Reviewers call the community clean, well-kept, and beautiful; several describe it as a very nice facility with a home-like feel rather than an institutional one. These comments, together with the remarks about activities and companionship, suggest an environment that supports both comfort and social engagement for residents.

Dining and activities are another consistent positive. Multiple reviews comment on delicious meals and the availability of activities that provide companionship. Small, individualized gestures — like cookies delivered to a resident's room — and access to books or reading materials are cited as examples of how staff personalize the experience. The breadth of positive remarks around dining and activities supports the impression of a community that focuses on quality of life as well as basic care needs.

However, there are clear and consequential concerns related to management and pricing. Several summaries report rate hikes and even allegations that staff or management lied about rates. At least one review specifically calls out the executive director for horrible management and unprofessional behavior, and notes that the family moved to another facility as a result. These are significant red flags for prospective residents and families because issues around transparency and leadership stability can directly affect long-term satisfaction and financial planning. It is also notable that management impressions are mixed in the summaries: while some praise the management as great and recommend the community highly, others report the opposite. This variation suggests inconsistent experiences or changes over time in management practices.

Another important limitation to note is that memory care capability is not provided, which makes the community unsuitable for families seeking dementia- or memory-focused services. Several reviewers explicitly recommend the facility for assisted care but note the lack of memory care as a constraint. Finally, because pricing and management reliability were flagged as problems by some families, prospective residents should verify current rates, ask about past increases and the policy for future rate changes, and inquire about the leadership team’s stability and complaint-resolution processes before committing.

In summary, The Lincoln Home Senior Retirement Community is frequently described as a warm, clean, and well-staffed assisted living environment with personalized care, engaging activities, and good dining. Those positives are tempered by serious concerns from multiple reviewers about rate hikes, alleged dishonesty regarding pricing, and unprofessional management behavior in at least some cases. The facility does not offer memory care, so it is best suited to seniors who need assisted living rather than dementia-specific services. Prospective residents and families should weigh the strong, repeatable praise about frontline staff and daily life against the reported management and pricing issues, and perform targeted due diligence (verify contract terms, ask for written rate policies, and speak to current residents/families) before making a decision.

About The Lincoln Home Senior Retirement Community

The Lincoln Home Senior Retirement Community sits along the Damariscotta River in Midcoast Maine, and the river views are really something, especially from the new and spacious apartments or the riverside dining room where the culinary team serves three meals a day with locally sourced, creative dishes, which means special treats and special diets like allergy-sensitive or diabetes meals are available when needed, and folks can always find a comfortable spot whether they're in the cozy library upstairs, the big living room downstairs, or out on a garden path. Residents get help with daily things like bathing, dressing, and medication, and there are always caregivers close by if extra support is needed, so everyone can feel secure, especially with the 24-hour call system and emergency alerts set up throughout the two-story community. The place has a small, homey feel, and the staff puts a lot of effort into making everyone feel like family, whether it's by offering private rooms looking out at the water, or making sure all sorts of social and creative activities are happening-things like arts and crafts, exercise classes, writing memoirs, sing-alongs, movie nights, and seasonal lobster feeds, which seem to be a favorite. There's a newsletter called RIVER VIEWS that keeps folks up to date with what's going on, and the activity rooms stay active with puzzles, games, and community-sponsored events, giving everyone a chance to both relax and engage. The Lincoln Home has assisted living for those who want extra help but still value their independence, along with memory care for folks with dementia or Alzheimer's in a part of the community that's calm and secure, plus skilled nursing, respite care, and even adult day and home health services to support different needs as life changes. Everything's accessible for wheelchairs, and there's transportation, housekeeping, and laundry services, with options for studio or one-bedroom apartments if someone's looking for a new place to settle in. The Lincoln Home is a non-profit, small place that puts an emphasis on compassion, person-centered care, and a chance to enjoy both the outdoors and community life, with plenty of laughter and creative opportunities to make every day a bit brighter.
