    Charming quiet mill town living

I loved living here - a peaceful, quiet old mill town with a small-town feel, Main Street within walking distance and easy access between Baltimore and Washington. The four-story building had nice one-bedroom apartments with balconies and useful amenities (laundry, gym, library, TV room, game nights); staff and neighbors were friendly. My main safety concern was a nearby pedestrian crossing light that was out.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment in the reviews is strongly positive: residents describe Selborne House as a peaceful, quiet place with a friendly atmosphere and staff. Multiple comments emphasize that people "loved living there," which suggests high resident satisfaction with daily life and community culture. The repeated use of terms like "nice people," "friendly atmosphere," and "friendly staff" points to a social environment that is welcoming and supportive.

Facilities and activities are consistently mentioned as strengths. The property offers a range of on-site amenities — a laundry room, gym/fitness area, library, and TV room — that support independent living and daily convenience. Social programming such as game nights is noted, indicating opportunities for resident engagement and community-building. The housing stock described in the reviews consists of one-bedroom apartments, many with balconies, in a four-story building; these details suggest a modestly sized community that still provides private living spaces with outdoor access for some units.

Location is another clear positive theme. Reviewers highlight a small-town, "old mill town" feel with Main Street within walking distance, which can be appealing for residents who value a compact, walkable neighborhood with local shops and services. The placement between Baltimore and Washington is noted as convenient for regional access, which may be attractive to residents who have family or appointments in either metropolitan area.

The primary and only explicit concern raised in the summaries involves a pedestrian safety issue: a crossing light is reported as out, and reviewers flagged this as "not good" and a safety concern. The remark indicates an infrastructure or maintenance problem affecting pedestrian safety near the property. The reviews do not specify whether this is building management's responsibility or an external municipal issue, but it is a concrete item that prospective residents and family members should verify and discuss with management or local authorities.

Notably, the reviews do not provide direct commentary on some typical senior living topics such as formal care quality, medical services, dining/catering, or management responsiveness. The absence of such comments means there is limited information from these summaries on clinical care, meal quality, housekeeping beyond laundry availability, or administrative practices. Because the available feedback is strongly positive about community atmosphere, amenities, and location, but sparse on care-related services, interested parties should follow up with the facility to get specifics on clinical services, staff-to-resident ratios, dining options, and any health or personal care offerings if those are relevant to their needs.

In summary, Selborne House is portrayed as a quiet, friendly community with good basic amenities, meaningful social activities, and a desirable small-town location between major cities. The standout negative is an identified pedestrian-safety issue near the property that warrants follow-up. For a prospective resident seeking a peaceful, community-oriented independent-living environment, the reviews are encouraging; for those needing medical, dining, or management-service details, additional direct inquiries are recommended.

    About Selborne House

Selborne House sits in Laurel, MD, and offers several apartment options for seniors looking for a place to live, and there's no extra information given about the place, but some basic facts are clear enough, and the building has four floors and you can use an elevator to reach them, which can help when getting around isn't as easy as it used to be, so you've got those studio apartments at about $980 a month or one-bedroom spots for $995 to $1,085, and these homes range from 514 up to 700 square feet, always giving you one bathroom, and there's mention of two-bedroom units in their floor plans, though no prices listed for those, and if you rent here most utilities like garbage, water, and sewer are included, which means fewer bills to juggle, and you'll find air conditioning, electric heating, storage in your unit, and a resident parking lot where you need a permit. There's also a business center, gym, laundry facilities, and rooms for relaxing or social activities, and outside you can use a barbecue area or patio when the weather's nice, and controlled access to the building adds to the sense of security. The place doesn't seem fancy but has what most folks need, and right now there are units open if you're looking for something steady and straightforward in Laurel.
