    Clean facility, caring staff, recommended

I've been very pleased with Myrtles Nursing Center - the building is clean and orderly, staff are consistently friendly, helpful and compassionate, and communication is responsive. My loved one received thoughtful care, engaging activities and effective therapy, and I felt staff treated residents like family. A few drawbacks: food could improve and there have been occasional staffing/medication-management hiccups. Overall I felt confident and would recommend it.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews for Myrtles Nursing Center LLC is strongly positive, with the dominant theme being high praise for the staff. Reviewers repeatedly emphasize kindness, compassion, and friendliness from CNAs, nurses, and other team members. Multiple accounts describe staff as treating residents like family, showing genuine concern, and providing attentive bedside care. Many family members reported proactive communication from management and staff, such as check-ins, calm administrative intervention during upset moments, and timely answers to questions, which contributes to overall trust and confidence in the facility. Several reviewers explicitly stated they would recommend the facility and felt confident in the quality of care provided.

Care quality and clinical services receive positive mention overall. Physical therapy is highlighted as effective, helping residents regain or improve strength. Nursing staff are praised in many reviews for competence and professionalism; reviewers shared experiences of good vital-sign checks (for example, blood pressure checks) and thorough explanations. However, there are isolated but notable concerns about nursing consistency and medication management that indicate variability in clinical performance. A few reviewers flagged medication-related worries and instances where feeding assistance may not have been reliably provided. These issues appear less common than the positive reports but are important patterns to monitor.

Facility environment and cleanliness are another strong area. Many reviews describe the center as clean, orderly, well-kept, and secure, with several visitors noting the absence of the stereotypical 'nursing home smell.' Specific praises include clean rooms and attentive housekeeping. That said, a minority of reviewers mentioned an unpleasant odor and that while floors were clean they did not shine — suggesting generally good cleaning standards with occasional lapses or cosmetic maintenance opportunities.

Activities and social engagement are repeatedly commended. Reviewers describe engaging activities that residents enjoy — one example being outdoor or communal activities featuring bubbles and popsicles — and note that these events contribute positively to resident morale and companionship (including roommate companionship). This social programming, combined with staff warmth, appears to foster a pleasant, family-like atmosphere.

Dining and dietary accommodations show mixed feedback. Several reviewers appreciated that the center accommodates special diets such as pureed food and that dietary staff are attentive. Conversely, multiple mentions indicate that food quality could improve; some reviewers simply stated 'food needs improvement,' and there are concerns tied to feeding assistance for certain residents. These mixed reports suggest that while dietary needs are recognized and accommodated, consistency and food quality may not meet all family expectations.

Management and administration are generally portrayed as responsive and fair. Specific positive examples include administrators calming upset family members and staff facilitating communications and donations. Several reviews call out named staff who helped during admission and visits, indicating strong personal engagement from leadership and front-line employees. At the same time, there is recurring mention of understaffing or staff members feeling overwhelmed. Some reviews explicitly say staffing has improved recently, implying progress, while others still cite insufficient nursing coverage. This tension suggests the facility may be in transition with staffing levels improving but not uniformly resolved.

In summary, Myrtles Nursing Center LLC receives consistent praise for compassionate staff, cleanliness, a secure environment, effective therapy services, and engaging activities. Families frequently report positive interactions, good communication, and overall confidence in the care their loved ones receive. The primary areas for attention are intermittent nursing/medication management concerns, variability in dining quality and feeding assistance, and occasional understaffing that can make staff seem overwhelmed. There are isolated facility maintenance notes (odor, floor shine) but these are not pervasive. Taken together, the reviews portray a facility with a strong caregiving culture and solid operations, with a few actionable areas to address to ensure more consistent experiences for all residents.

    About Myrtles Nursing Center LLC

The Myrtles Nursing Center LLC sits at 1018 Alberta Avenue in Columbia, Mississippi, with a certified capacity of 98 beds and an average daily census of about 90 residents, and Regional Care LLC, David Flippin, and Tracy Beebe manage the facility, with an affiliation with the Beebe Family going back several years now, and what you find here is a senior care center that covers a range of needs like short-term rehabilitation, skilled nursing, wound care, long-term care, memory care for Alzheimer's and dementia, as well as palliative and hospice care, and they also provide medication management for those who need extra help with daily prescriptions, and their rehabilitation programs use physical, occupational, and speech therapy whether someone's recovering from surgery, illness, or something like a fall, and they have a homelike setting with comfortable rooms, outdoor relaxation spots, and a schedule of activities for the residents, aiming to support wellness in body, mind, and spirit.

Now, you do need to know the facility's had some trouble with inspections, getting 17 total deficiencies, including 3 related to infection control, and there were issues with how they assess residents and keep up the care planning paperwork, sometimes missing full assessments on new admissions, overlooking the need to update assessments periodically, and not always sending assessment data to the state in the seven-day window, which is a requirement, and there have also been problems setting up and consistently running proper infection prevention programs, which is important, especially with vulnerable residents.

Nurse turnover at Myrtles Nursing Center LLC has run higher than the Mississippi average, with about 68% of nurses leaving compared to 46% across other facilities in the state, and public records don't currently confirm exactly how many nurse hours per resident folks get each day, so that's something to keep in mind, and the facility remains licensed and keeps up membership in the Mississippi Health Care Association.

Residents here get services tailored to their needs, whether it's assisted living, independent living, dementia support in the memory care units, or just some time to recover after a hospital stay before heading home, and they've got specialized programs for geriatric and continuing care retirement community residents, and they try to create a supportive environment, focusing on social engagement, opportunities for friendships, and offering a mix of wellness activities.

Their staff helps guide people through admission and care planning, and they say they use enhanced barrier precautions to maintain safety, especially when it comes to infection prevention, but it's worth looking at the recent CMS inspection reports to get a sense of the compliance history, because those reports reflect a facility's strengths and areas where more effort's needed, and the center operates under a rehabilitation and skilled nursing care model, so you'll see a lot of services for those who need help recovering or extra daily care.

The Myrtles Nursing Center LLC tries to foster a community atmosphere, providing amenities and programs that help residents stay as healthy and engaged as possible, though the number and the kinds of amenities can change, and anyone interested can send an information request before deciding, and you'll find that the facility focuses on creating a sense of comfort, safety, and dignity for seniors from all walks of life.
