    Attentive caring modern memory-care community

I love this community - the director (Lisa) and staff are attentive, friendly, and genuinely caring. The facility is modern, spotless, and well maintained with strong memory-care nursing, plenty of activities, good dining, and convenient on-site services. Move-in was smooth, communication stayed clear, and I'd happily recommend it to others.

    Summary of reviews

Brookdale Hattiesburg is consistently described as a specialized memory-care community with a strong clinical presence and a family-oriented culture. Strengths frequently highlighted include on-site clinical services (RNs, LPNs, PT/OT, and a nurse practitioner), 24-hour nursing coverage, and a locked dementia unit designed for residents with Alzheimer’s and related conditions. Families emphasize that caregiving staff are caring, personable, and generally well trained; many accounts describe meaningful one-on-one attention, improved resident wellbeing after moving in, and staff who engage residents in daily interaction.

The facility’s physical environment and amenities receive positive marks: reviewers note a modern, clean building with well-kept grounds, an inviting courtyard, a hair salon, therapy space, and flexible apartment options. The community is described as pet-friendly and home-like, with various common areas for socializing. Transportation services, inclusive housekeeping/laundry/Wi‑Fi packages, and proximity to medical services are additional operational strengths that many families appreciate. Leadership and administrative staff are often characterized as accessible and helpful during tours and move-in.

Dining and programming are mixed areas. Many families praise nutritious, restaurant-style options, menu variety, and a robust activities calendar — bingo, crafts, outings, and resident-driven programs are commonly mentioned and appear to support social engagement. However, other families describe inconsistent meal preparation, cafeteria-style food, or long waits at times. This inconsistency in dining experience is a recurring theme and appears tied to occasional service-timing issues.

Operationally, reviewers point to a handful of recurring concerns. Communication between staff and families is uneven: while some families receive timely updates, others describe gaps in notification about clinical events and doctor visits. Medication management and billing also generate concern — both inconsistencies in day-to-day medication oversight and additional charges for medication administration are noted. Use of temporary or agency staff is associated with occasional discontinuities in care and responsiveness. Maintenance and housekeeping are usually satisfactory but have occasional lapses reported, especially in specific rooms or bathrooms. Safety and security are generally supported by a locked memory unit, yet some reviewers raised access-control vulnerabilities and property-security worries, including missing items.

Overall, Brookdale Hattiesburg presents as a clinically capable, warm memory-care community with many families reporting substantial improvements for residents and high staff engagement. Prospective residents and families should weigh the strong clinical staffing, activity programming, and amenities against the potential for variable dining quality, occasional communication and medication-management inconsistencies, and additional fees. A focused tour that includes discussion of medication billing, staffing patterns (use of agency personnel), security measures, and recent dining/housekeeping practices will help clarify how current operations match individual needs and expectations.

    About Brookdale Hattiesburg

Brookdale Hattiesburg is a senior living community that offers a range of care, from independent living and assisted living to skilled nursing, memory care, and continuing care services, so residents get the support they need as they age, and with the company's Service Care Plan, each person gets help with things like bathing, grooming, medication, and moving around, which makes life a bit easier for everyone, and around the campus, you'll find comfortable apartment-style homes with full kitchens, washer and dryer in each unit, emergency call systems, and cable TV, plus there's a mix of floor plans so people can choose what fits their needs best. The community has both indoor and outdoor gathering spaces like a media room, movie theater, meeting areas, raised gardening beds, and an outside patio garden, so there are places to relax, chat, or join an event, and the building includes features like fireplaces in common rooms, a piano and organ for music, a TV lounge, and free Wi-Fi throughout, with transportation, parking, and guest parking all available if visitors or errands come up. Staff is on site 24 hours a day every day, ready to help with emergencies or daily assistance, and there's an alert system that helps keep everyone safe, with respect for each person's privacy and independence, but always ready to step in when help is needed. For eating, there's restaurant-style dining with a professional chef who prepares a variety of meals, including international options and special diets-like vegan, kosher, low sodium, or low sugar-so almost everyone's needs are met, and communal dining, guest meals, and even a private dining room make it possible to eat with friends or family when they visit. Health services cover medication reminders, therapies such as physical therapy and rehabilitation, and special programs for memory care residents under the name Brookdale Hattiesburg II, plus hospice and respite care are available, so families have peace of mind if something changes. Residents get regular housekeeping, laundry, and dry-cleaning services, and there are beautician and salon services on site, so everyone can stay comfortable and well-groomed. The activity schedule changes daily, with social, educational, religious, and entertainment events, outings, and games, plus fitness and wellness programs, music, arts and crafts, horticultural activities, and on- and off-site devotional services, so there's always a way to stay engaged or learn something new, and those who like pets will find the community allows them and even has special programs and help for veterans. Brookdale Hattiesburg focuses on letting everyone do as much as they can for themselves, but with care and staff always near by, so life stays as independent and pleasant as possible, with cheerful greetings and a homelike setting, meals, safe buildings, and opportunities to connect with others and be active, and all of this is included under one cost, so residents and families know what to expect from the start, and they're able to age in place with familiar people and surroundings as their needs change.
