    Homelike care with some drawbacks

I moved my mom here and overall I'm pleased. The community is neat and clean, very homelike, with friendly, attentive staff who respond quickly and truly seem to care; the chef-prepared meals are excellent (she gained weight and enjoys them), weekdays are activity-packed, and the one-level layout and memory-care option feel secure. Downsides: weekend coverage/activities are thin, there's some staff turnover and occasional communication/medication or cleaning lapses, and apartments are small and a bit pricey. Despite those caveats, I feel confident in the care and would give it 4/5.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews is largely positive but with meaningful and specific exceptions. The strongest, most consistent praise centers on the staff, dining, activities, and the facility's homelike atmosphere. Many reviewers describe Olive Grove Terrace as clean, attractive, and comfortable: a newer building with a pleasant exterior, flowers, and a fresh smell in common areas. Residents and families often highlight friendly, compassionate caregivers who provide personalized attention, and several reviews report that staff go out of their way to meet residents' needs. A number of reviewers singled out the culinary program as a major strength — trained chefs, appealing meal presentation, and residents gaining weight or praising the food. The community also receives credit for robust weekday programming (church services, crafts, Bible study, exercise, themed events like cowboy cookouts and s'mores) that keeps residents engaged and fosters a family-friendly environment.

Care quality impressions are mixed but frequently positive. Multiple reviewers report attentive, professional-level care, including personalized caregiving and a secured Alzheimer’s/ memory-care area with wandering prevention measures. In some accounts staff-to-resident ratios were very favorable (reported 1:2), and families reported good communication and confidence in safety. The layout and accessibility (single-level ranch design, large studios with walk-in closets, pocket doors to the outside) are appreciated by those seeking ease of mobility and independence. Pricing impressions vary — several reviewers called the community affordable or noted flexible pricing, while others considered it expensive relative to prior communities.

However, there are notable and recurrent concerns that should not be overlooked. A subset of reviews describe significant lapses in clinical care and communication: missing diabetes medications, doctors' orders not relayed to nursing staff, and even a report of a resident going without a shower for nine days. These are serious quality-of-care issues and were accompanied by complaints of poor communication and lack of accountability from management. Staffing concerns also appear: reports of aides administering medications without sufficient oversight, lack of night and weekend nursing coverage, staff asleep on duty, and general staff turnover — all of which created enough risk that some families removed loved ones. There is at least one report of an assault by another resident and concerns that some caregivers were not properly trained to manage difficult behaviors.

Facility- and amenity-related feedback is mixed. Many reviewers praise communal cleanliness and attractive spaces, but some residents experienced irregular apartment cleaning, small living units with limited in-room amenities (no full stove or refrigerator in some units), and malfunctioning washers/dryers. Several reviewers noted that weekend activities are limited and there is no transportation for residents. There were isolated reports of deceptive or overly scripted tours and problems with onboarding logistics (for example, confusion about payment for hairdresser services). A few people characterized the community as overcrowded or impersonal, which contrasts with many descriptions of a family-like environment; this suggests variability in experience that may depend on timing or which staff are on duty.

In summary, Olive Grove Terrace appears to offer many strengths that families prioritize: engaged and friendly staff (in many cases), excellent dining, appealing activities, and a clean, homelike setting. These positive features are repeated across many reviews and contribute to an overall favorable impression (one reviewer rated the community 4/5). At the same time, there are critical, specific complaints — medication errors, lapses in personal care, inconsistent housekeeping, staffing gaps (especially nights/weekends), and at least one serious safety incident — that indicate uneven performance and potential risk. Prospective residents and families should weigh the generally strong social, culinary, and environmental positives against these service reliability concerns. Recommended actions before deciding: conduct an unannounced visit if possible, ask detailed questions about medication administration policies, nursing coverage at night/weekends, staff training and turnover rates, incident reporting/accountability procedures, availability of respite or transportation, and clarify exactly which appliances and housekeeping services are included. This will help determine whether the current staffing and management practices align with your expectations for consistent, safe care.
