    Neglect, dirty conditions, unresponsive management

I wanted to like this place - staff can be friendly and some programs genuinely help residents relearn life skills, and parts of the facility are clean. But I witnessed residents left in their own filth, careless and heartless treatment, and unresponsive management. This shameful, potentially illegal neglect compelled me to call for the facility to be shut down.

    About Carrington Nursing Center

Carrington Nursing Center, sometimes called The Carrington Nursing and Rehab, sits over on Reed Road in Starkville, Mississippi, and provides skilled nursing care for seniors and people needing long-term help, so with 60 beds and an average of 55 residents most days, folks find it's big enough for care but still personal, and the place works as both a skilled nursing facility and an assisted living home, offering different levels of support according to what residents need, with around-the-clock medical help, and a staff that includes nurses, personal care assistants, and therapy professionals. You'll find specialized care here for very frail seniors, including bathing and toileting assistance, plus memory care and respite services, and people who need short-term rehab after a hospital stay can get occupational, physical, and speech therapy while they recover before heading home. The center handles daily personal care, provides nutritious, on-site meals, and supports folks with medication, wound care, and specialty medical visits like podiatry, which keeps residents as healthy as possible while helping with the daily tasks that can get harder with age. They've updated and renovated the facility, making the rooms more comfortable, adding little kitchens or kitchenettes, and making sure there are washers, dryers, and housekeeping to help out, so even as folks' needs change, the setup supports them as best as possible. Safety and handicap features come standard, including a sprinkler system, to give residents and their families some peace of mind, and the property also includes a fitness center, activity and game room, a dining hall, and even WiFi for folks who want to keep in touch with friends or family. Residents find lots of things to do like arts and crafts, social groups, health and wellness programs, and educational activities, as the staff tries to keep everyone active, engaged, and feeling part of a community. The center takes people out on transportation services for appointments or outings, and for visiting guests there's parking right on site. While they try to offer attentive, compassionate care with personal attention, inspection reports have found a few problems, including three cited deficiencies lately-one related to infection control, another regarding infection prevention and control, and a third about not fully honoring residents' right to a safe and homelike environment-which gives families something to consider when choosing a facility. The Carrington, run by Carrington LLC and affiliated with Briar Hill Management, is a for-profit company that tries to meet federal standards for infection prevention and resident rights. On average, staff provide about 3.65 nurse hours per resident each day, and the center's made efforts to create a warm, peaceful place for seniors and folks recovering from illness or injury, with services tailored to each person. Carrington Nursing Center serves elders in the Starkville area who need extra support, long-term skilled nursing, or rehabilitation, making it an option for families looking for these services in this part of Mississippi.
