    Spotless facility, serious management failures

I'm conflicted: the building is spotless, rooms are large and private with en suite bathrooms, the food is good, and many caregivers are genuinely caring and helpful-hospice/dementia care was comforting at times. But administration was unresponsive (even refusing to give supervisor info), communication was poor, and I experienced/was told of serious neglect: delayed care, hygiene problems, bedsores, infections/sepsis, even deaths, theft of belongings, and a HIPAA/privacy breach-police were involved in some cases. I appreciate the hard-working staff who try to keep residents safe and cheery, but until management fixes these issues I cannot recommend this facility.

    About Mark Twain Caring Center

Mark Twain Caring Center sits as a for-profit skilled nursing facility owned by a limited liability company, and since it isn't part of a Continuing Care Retirement Community, it mainly focuses on nursing home, rehabilitation, and memory care services, which means folks needing help with serious medical needs, dementia care, or therapy like physical, occupational, and speech therapy could get what they need here, and with 120 certified beds and about 97 residents, there's usually a choice of private, furnished rooms that come with Wi-Fi, air conditioning, private bathrooms, televisions, kitchenettes, and telephones, so people can feel comfortable and stay connected. Residents have help from licensed nurses and a doctor who's on call round the clock, and the staff works with families to make care plans, look after needs like eating, grooming, and dressing, and keep up with medication management and 24-hour supervision using a call system for safety, especially in the 20-bed memory care neighborhood with staff trained in Alzheimer's and dementia care, so those with memory loss have added security and support. Mark Twain Caring Center offers all-day dining in a dining room, with choices to fit allergies and special diets, along with planned activities-things like games, arts and crafts, music, Bible study, social gatherings, movie nights, trips to shop, and even cooking and gardening for folks who want to stay active or spend time outdoors in the gardens or walking paths. Services include housekeeping, laundry, and maintenance, so residents don't have to worry about chores, and the place is fully sprinklered for fire safety, with both resident and family councils to give everyone a voice in decisions. Therapists and visiting specialists like dentists, podiatrists, and psychiatrists come by regularly, keeping up with residents' physical and mental health while regular physician visits and ongoing therapy help with recovery and rehab. The center accepts both Medicaid and Medicare, offers safe transportation with accessible vans for clinic visits or errands, and is located close to pharmacies and Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center, which is just about five minutes away, making medical appointments easy to reach. The real focus here stays on providing a safe, supportive environment, with group or one-on-one enrichment, well-rounded meals, and help with everyday needs, all under professional care standards, and with a clear system to make sure no unnecessary medical devices or procedures are given unless truly required. The place works hard to support residents' well-being-physically, mentally, and emotionally-while offering a sense of community and reliable staff dedication at all times.
