    Kind staff but dangerous, untrustworthy

I liked the small, caring community-staff were kind and respectful, meals were appealing with good variety, and activities were offered. But my short stay revealed serious problems: medication mix-ups (only corrected by Tender Nest), no air conditioning so my room was unbearably hot, safety concerns for Alzheimer's residents, and billing violations that left me charged for two months-total disaster. I appreciate the staff's kindness, but I wouldn't trust this place for someone with dementia and advise families to be very cautious.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment in the reviews is mixed: several reviewers praise the staff, community feel, dining, and activities, while others report serious operational and safety problems. Positive comments emphasize compassionate caregivers, individualized attention in a small community, a varied and appealing menu, and an active environment with offered activities. Some families strongly recommend the facility and share powerful positive anecdotes (one reviewer wrote that the facility "saved her"), indicating that when operations run well the center can provide meaningful and effective care.

Care quality and staff performance are the clearest strengths across the positive reviews. Multiple reviewers describe the staff as kind, caring, and respectful; they note attention to detail and that caregivers provide good hands-on care. The small size of the community is mentioned repeatedly as an advantage because it appears to allow staff to give more personalized attention and build relationships with residents. These positive reports suggest that staffing culture can be a real asset for families seeking warmth and human connection for their loved ones.

Facilities and environmental comfort are a notable weakness. Several reviewers specifically report that rooms were uncomfortably hot and that the facility lacks adequate air conditioning. Room comfort and temperature control are basic but essential aspects of resident well-being; repeated complaints about heat indicate an unresolved facilities issue that materially affects resident experience.

Clinical safety and suitability for residents with cognitive impairment are a major concern in the negative reviews. Medication mix-ups are mentioned more than once, which is a critical safety red flag. In addition, at least one reviewer explicitly states the facility is "not Alzheimer's equipped," and expresses safety concerns for an Alzheimer’s patient. Together, these points indicate potential gaps in clinical processes, medication management, and dementia-specific training or infrastructure.

Management and administrative problems appear in multiple reviews and are significant. Several reviewers describe billing problems, including being charged for months after discharge or being billed for two months, and at least one review mentions violations connected to billing. These issues damage trust and suggest weaknesses in administrative controls, billing transparency, or regulatory compliance. The presence of strong praise from some families alongside reports of billing violations and clinical errors suggests inconsistent performance — some residents receive very good care while others experience serious problems described as a "total disaster."

Taken together, patterns indicate a facility with real strengths in staff compassion, small-community atmosphere, dining, and activities, but also with important and recurring operational weaknesses: medication safety, climate control, dementia-specific capabilities, and billing/administrative reliability. For prospective families, the reviews recommend cautious evaluation: verify medication management procedures, dementia care protocols, and billing practices, and inspect room climate control before placement. The mixed nature of the feedback means experiences may vary considerably from one resident to another, so in-person visits, direct questions about the specific concerns raised here, and checking regulatory or inspection records would be prudent next steps.

    About Autumn Care Center

Autumn Care Center sits in Billings, MT, offering a mix of living choices like assisted living, memory care, independent living, and even adult day care, all on the same grounds, and you'll see they're set up for comfort and day-to-day needs with things like studio, single room, and two-bedroom layouts in both assisted living and memory care and kitchens or kitchenettes right in some rooms, plus washers and dryers, so residents can do laundry when they want, and it's good that they've got cable TV connections, Wi-Fi, and a dining room for regular meals, which they serve three times a day while honoring special diets if needed. Folks living there get support from staff around the clock, including registered nurses, personal care assistants, visiting nurses, and even podiatrists dropping by, and the care covers handling medication, hygiene, wound care, catheter care, either bladder or bowel incontinence, and help for diabetic residents with blood sugar checks and insulin injections, sometimes using sliding scale therapy to manage their health, and there's also incontinence care with reminders for bathroom visits. The building's set up so it's fully wheelchair accessible, so you don't have to worry about getting around, and they do standby help with transfers, whether that's mechanical lifts, one-person assistance, or two people helping, with the staff able to step in as needed for grooming, bathing, and daily routines. Memory care comes with extra safety features, and the secured memory care unit was specially built to help people who have Alzheimer's disease or other dementia, and that dedicated building, which uses alarms and bracelets to help protect residents from wandering, works closely with staff who keep an eye out thanks to a computerized Wander Alert System, while also easing families' minds about safety. They've done a lot for people who need behavioral care, especially those who act out or might try to leave, giving care plans that fit their needs, and running activities that sharpen the mind and help everyone stay social, which can mean anything from arts and crafts and fitness programs to a full schedule of social events and educational programs, sometimes held inside at the game or activities room, and sometimes outside the center, so people don't get bored or lonely. Devotional services are usually held offsite, but those are available for anyone who wants them, and anything spiritual is respected. Some people like the simpler Residential Care Home setting, which supports small groups in a cozy spot, where daily life is quieter and staff can offer more personal touches. Housekeeping, room maintenance, and laundry are all taken care of, the same as if you had family looking out for you, while guest parking is available, and residents have use of fitness centers, salons or barber shops, and game rooms, all set up to make life a bit easier and more enjoyable. The safety side is strong, with sprinkler systems, secure doors, and a staff that's on awake and alert 24 hours a day, always ready to monitor, remind, or step in when anyone needs something, whether that's getting dressed, taking medicine, eating, or just managing day-to-day routines, and the place is designed to be welcoming, safe, and help everyone feel like they belong, no matter their age, since they'll accept people even under 55 who need this kind of support. Autumn Care Center is part of Lutheran Homes, and they focus on practical, steady care, relying on proven systems and a dedicated staff to provide a supportive, friendly space for seniors and anyone else who needs it.
