    Warm compassionate care but costly

I've had an overwhelmingly positive experience: the staff are warm, caring and professional, the facility is beautiful, very clean and full of amenities (pools, salon, theater, library, cottages) with lots of activities and good dining. Memory care and end-of-life support were compassionate and staff frequently went above and beyond. Caveats: it's expensive and very large (can be hard to navigate), and there are occasional staffing, communication and billing/management issues to watch for. Overall I'd recommend it for the people, community spirit and quality of care, but be vigilant about costs and administration.

About MorningStar Senior Living of Billings

MorningStar of Billings offers a comprehensive and thoughtfully designed senior living community set in the picturesque west end of Billings, Montana. The community is conveniently located in a park-like, residential neighborhood that provides residents with both a serene country setting and easy access to shopping centers, restaurants, medical facilities, and four nearby golf courses. With the city of Billings recognized for its appealing climate, low cost of living, reasonable taxes, and scenic beauty, MorningStar of Billings ensures its residents experience both comfort and convenience in their retirement years.

The campus features a selection of 32 independent living cottages and 72 bright suites for independent living, each boasting well-conceived floor plans that include studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom configurations. Cottages are notable for their spaciousness, offering over 1,225 square feet in some layouts, complete with amenities such as fully equipped kitchens, nine-foot ceilings, fireplaces, attached one-car garages, weekly housekeeping, and laundry and linen services. Assisted living residents can choose from 70 suites designed to balance independence with the right level of support, while those facing memory impairment are cared for in the secure Reflections Neighborhood, which houses 36 specialized suites in studio and companion setups.

Recent renovations have refreshed the entire community, with contemporary carpet and paint, new art, and modern furnishings adorning all hallways, common areas, and suites as needed. Residents enjoy abundant natural light, comfortable and updated interiors, and stunning views of the Rocky Mountains. Life at MorningStar is enriched by amenities such as a bistro, theatre, billiards and game room, spa bath, fitness room, strolling paths, courtyards, and a full calendar of scheduled outings and events. Multiple dining venues, including a full bar, cater to various tastes and preferences, and the restaurant-style dining experience is elevated by executive chef-inspired menus. Fresh, locally sourced ingredients often feature in seasonal menus, which emphasize scratch-made offerings and health-conscious options including vegetarian, gluten free, low sodium, and dairy free.

For those requiring memory care, the Reflections Neighborhood at MorningStar of Billings utilizes a programmatic approach called Lavender Sky, which incorporates Montessori-based therapies. Individualized service plans and a gentle flow of purposeful activities—integrating music, art, dance, aromatherapy, and animal therapy—are cornerstones in supporting residents with Alzheimer’s and other dementia-related illnesses. Memory care residents benefit from daily health monitoring, access to a full-time nurse, 24/7 well-trained staff, engaging common areas including a secure courtyard, and nutritional meals served as in the rest of the community. The environment fosters dignity and as much independence as possible, with clear wayfinding and thoughtful design ensuring safety and comfort.

MorningStar of Billings stands by its mission statement, "to honor, to value, to invest," and dedicates itself to providing a range of lifestyle options that give seniors the opportunity to enjoy an active, social, and maintenance-free way of life.
