    About Lukas Community

The Lukas Community sits on sixty-five acres of scenic, rural land in Temple, New Hampshire, and you'll find four extended-family households where about sixteen adults with developmental disabilities live together with able coworkers, dedicated house parents, employees, and volunteers, all aiming to give lifelong residential care in a supportive, year-round home. The Lukas Foundation runs this place under the name The Lukas Community, following ideas from Rudolf Steiner that focus on whole-person development, so you'll notice a strong sense of community and people trying to honor each person's unique talents. Folks living here take part in a mix of daily activities including gardening, weaving, cooking, working in workshops, and creating in craft studios, while classrooms support learning and sharing, and you'll often see opportunities for everyone to join in storytelling, art events, concerts, and cultural gatherings.

You'll find therapeutic programs, vocational training, and services aimed at helping people with disabilities grow, learn, and work together with others. The campus encourages a family style of living, and people share work and daily life as part of their households. There's always something going on, whether residents are tending the therapeutic gardens or joining art workshops and recreational activities. The community holds a deep commitment to both resident care and personal growth, and it depends on teamwork, with volunteers and employees being a key part of how things run every day. The Lukas Community is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, so there's a way for people to support them through donations, and neighbors or supporters can volunteer, work, or just come visit, since there's local lodging nearby. You'll also find plenty of programs, activities, and a gallery sharing stories and photographs of community life, so people get a real sense of what daily living looks like here. New residents can apply for admission, and those interested can find more about the mission, the team, and all the ways people support and join this unique, caring place where both able and disabled adults live and share life together.
