    Clean facility, concerning medical oversight

I had a mixed experience. The building is spotless, bright and peaceful, rehab/PT and many nurses (Wendy, Jelena, Justin and others) were caring, communicative, family-like, and helped my relative make real progress - COVID updates and care-planning calls were excellent and veterans are accommodated. But I also witnessed serious lapses: short-staffing, agency/rough attitudes at times, poor hospice care, a misdiagnosed UTI that led to sepsis for my loved one, residents ignored or sedated, and catheter use instead of bathroom assistance - issues that eroded my trust. If you value cleanliness, rehab and compassionate long-term staff, I'd recommend visiting; if you worry about medical oversight and night staffing, proceed with caution.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews is predominantly positive but with notable and serious negative outliers. A strong majority of reviewers emphasize the facility’s compassionate, attentive culture: staff are frequently described as caring, patient-centered, and professional. Many families highlight individual employees by name (nurses such as Wendy, Jelena, Justin, Albert, Brielle, Rosa and others, plus social worker Suzana and occupational therapist Bryan) who made a significant positive difference. Repeated themes include clear communication with families, regular updates and care-planning calls, good COVID-related practices, successful rehabilitation (PT/OT) outcomes, and a welcoming, family-like atmosphere that gave families peace of mind.

Care quality: Most reviews report high-quality nursing and therapy services. The rehabilitation program and therapy teams receive specific praise for helping residents regain strength and functional ability. Numerous commenters state that nursing staff stay on top of medical needs, are calm under pressure, and go the extra mile. Several reviewers explicitly say they would choose or recommend Renaissance for themselves or other family members and report joyful, involved residents.

Staff and communication: Communication is a recurring strength in the reviews. Families describe timely updates, clear explanations of medical procedures, and staff who demystify paperwork and provide emotional support. Receptionists and administrative staff (including Medicaid coordination and DON/nursing supervisors) are often cited as welcoming and efficient. These positive comments are consistent: many reviewers note pleasant first impressions, smooth check-ins, and staff who are proud and invested in their work.

Facilities and environment: The physical plant is frequently praised as very clean, modern, bright and well-appointed. Large rooms, pleasant décor, and an odor-free environment are commonly mentioned. Several reviewers call it the cleanest nursing home they have seen. There are also mentions of technology offerings (VR experiences) and well-equipped therapy spaces that contribute to resident engagement and satisfaction.

Dining and activities: Opinions on food are mixed. Some reviewers call the food delicious and praise refreshments at events, while a few others describe the food negatively or only “decent.” Activities and engagement are generally viewed positively — staff reportedly keep residents active and involved — though a few reviewers noted limited outings or activity options in their experience.

Concerns and negative patterns: Despite the overall positive trend, there are significant and serious concerns reflected in a minority of reviews. These include allegations of rude staff, poor hospice services, and critical medical breakdowns — most notably at least one report of a misdiagnosed urinary tract infection allegedly progressing to sepsis. Other troubling reports reference residents being ignored, sedated, or catheterized when assistance to the bathroom might have been appropriate. Staffing instability and reliance on agency staff are cited as causes of inconsistent care. Several reviewers specifically raised issues with understaffing at night, lack of maintenance coverage after business hours, and a fear of retaliation for raising concerns. Some reviewers even describe the situation as dangerous or incompetent, indicating that experiences are not uniformly positive.

Inconsistency and polarized experiences: The reviews present a polarized picture in which many families experience exemplary, family-like care and excellent communication, while a smaller group reports severe lapses in medical care, staffing, or professionalism. Cleanliness and staff dedication are some of the most frequently cited strengths, but the negative reports — particularly those involving medical errors or hospice care failures — are serious and warrant attention. These outlier complaints reduce overall uniformity of experience and suggest variability depending on shifts, specific staff members, or units within the facility.

Takeaway: Renaissance at Lincoln Park is generally viewed as a clean, modern facility with compassionate, communicative, and skilled staff, especially in nursing and rehabilitation services. Many families felt relieved and thankful for the level of care and would recommend the facility. However, the presence of several severe complaints — including allegations of misdiagnosis leading to sepsis, hospice care concerns, understaffing at night, and inconsistent use of agency staff — are important cautionary signals. Prospective residents and families should weigh the strong positive patterns (staff warmth, good communication, effective therapy, clean environment) against the reported inconsistencies, and consider direct follow-up questions about staffing continuity, hospice arrangements, night coverage, and incident reporting/response practices when evaluating the facility.
