    Compassionate staff and clean community

I placed my mom here and I'm very pleased: the staff are compassionate, attentive, and responsive-front desk and nurses took time to answer questions and treat her like family. The community is bright, clean and hotel-like with lots of activities, amenities, in-house therapy and medical services that helped restore her happiness and gave us peace of mind. Apartments are smaller and rates are high, and food/management consistency can be hit or miss, but overall I highly recommend this caring, well-run place.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews is mixed but leans positive, with the strongest and most consistent praise focused on the quality of hands-on care, medical support, and the physical facility. Many families highlight compassionate, attentive caregivers and nursing staff who form personal bonds with residents, remember names, and take time to explain treatments. The presence of robust on-site clinical services—an in-house doctor, med techs, specialists (podiatrist, ophthalmologist), portable x-rays and labs, and in-house physical and occupational therapy—receives repeated positive mention. Reviewers also point to practical supports that reduce caregiver burden: housekeeping and laundry, transportation to appointments, rapid health responses (quick UTI testing and hospital transfers), and in-house hospice that provided important end-of-life care for some families.

The facility itself is frequently described as modern, bright, clean, and hotel-like with attractive common spaces and a beautiful courtyard. Multiple reviewers called the community gorgeous or luxurious, and visitors enjoyed dining in the bright dining room. Rooms are often noted as bright and well-kept, with some apartments featuring kitchenettes and large bathrooms; accessible bathrooms and a dedicated PT room were also appreciated. For families seeking a smaller, cozy environment, the scale and warm atmosphere appeal to many — reviewers used terms like "homey," "small," and "cozy." Respite care is highlighted as convenient (no minimum stay), and many reviewers reported a strong positive impact on residents’ mood and activity levels after moving in.

Activities and social programming are another consistent strength. The community offers a broad and active calendar—day trips (beach, shopping), concerts, theater outings, wine get-togethers, nightly movies, games, shows, and community events. Staff are noted for encouraging participation with a gentle approach, providing reminders for meals and activities, and fostering a social environment that helps residents reengage. Dining experiences receive mixed praise: several families called the food restaurant-quality with personalized meals and holiday menus, and they appreciated flexible meal options including in-room service and private dining. Others, however, found the food merely "OK" or poor and said dietary restrictions were not always well accommodated.

Notable concerns cluster around operational consistency, cost, and certain aspects of management and staffing. While many reviewers praise individual staff members by name (for example Jamie, Nicole, Karol, Manu, Joe, Michele, Cecily), others report inconsistent or poor staff behavior—some describe rude employees, an ineffective head nurse, or daily staff who were not as kind as management. This variability suggests turnover or uneven training/enforcement of standards. Several reviewers also raised concerns about transparency and fees: the community is frequently described as expensive, with reports of being "charged for everything" and worries about rate increases or promises not being kept. Medication management issues appear in multiple summaries—medication changes not being communicated to families, hard-to-open/poor pharmacy packaging, and concerns about pharmacy quality.

Other practical drawbacks mentioned by multiple reviewers include smaller-than-expected apartment sizes, the need for residents to supply some furniture, and limited amenities specifically within the memory care unit. A few reviewers found the community less "homey" or too large, and some wanted more outdoor grounds. There is also a pattern of contradictory experiences with management and new ownership—some families credit new leadership with improvements, while others complain about poor management or an acting director and diminished quality.

In short, Senior Living Residences Marlboro is widely recognized for its strong clinical services, compassionate caregivers, attractive facility, and active social programming—features that deliver meaningful improvements in many residents’ quality of life. However, prospective residents and families should be aware of variability in staff performance and management, mixed experiences with dining and medication/pharmacy handling, potential extra charges, and possibly smaller apartment sizes or limited memory-care amenities. Scheduling a tour, meeting multiple staff members (including nursing leadership and dietary/pharmacy contacts), and reviewing contract/fee details closely would help families confirm whether this community’s strengths align with their priorities and expectations.
