    Caring staff, excellent rehab, issues

I had a very positive experience - the staff were caring, helpful and professional (shout-out to Michael, Lydia, Cindy and Gretchen). The rehab and therapy teams were excellent; my loved one improved, regained strength, and left healthier and happier. The facility is welcoming with engaging activities and mostly clean, but we did encounter dead roaches in the elevator, grimy room walls, slow maintenance and a lost-item issue. Overall, I felt well cared for and would highly recommend Riverside despite those problems.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment: The reviews for Riverside Health and Rehabilitation Center are predominantly positive, with strong recurring praise for the caregiving staff, therapy programs, and the facility's social and rehabilitative atmosphere. Most reviewers highlight the compassionate nature of nurses, CNAs, therapists, activities staff, and multiple members of the administrative team. Many accounts emphasize meaningful clinical improvements (in strength, mobility, and pulmonary health), successful discharges home after rehab, and long-term residents who feel respected and well cared for.

Care quality and clinical outcomes: A major and consistent theme is the high quality of clinical care. Physical therapy is repeatedly described as "amazing," with daily therapy, professional trainers, and staff who "go above and beyond" to help residents regain mobility and independence. Reviewers cite clear improvement in health outcomes — residents leaving "healthier and happier" and making "tremendous improvement," particularly in rehab and pulmonary programs. Nursing care is frequently called excellent, compassionate, and attentive, and CNAs are repeatedly noted as very good with residents.

Staff, administration, and leadership: Many reviews single out individual staff and administrators by name (Gretchen, Cindy, Tom, Lydia, Michael, and nurse Cynthia) as being particularly helpful, accommodating, and engaged. Commenters describe admissions and administrative staff as facilitating less stressful transitions, being responsive, and treating families like extended family. Several reviews commend leadership and describe a highly involved new administration and phenomenal leadership. Social services and activities aides also receive praise for devotion and for creating a welcoming, home-like environment.

Activities, dining, and social environment: The activities program is repeatedly described as engaging, joyful, and an important part of resident life. Reviewers mention that residents enjoyed meeting peers, formed friendships, and appreciated the variety of activities offered. Food is described positively by some reviewers as "delightful." Multiple comments describe the facility as uplifting and a "home away from home," indicating a strong social environment in addition to clinical care.

Facilities and cleanliness: Facility impressions are mostly positive — several reviewers note a clean, spacious building with comfortable rooms and an overall uplifting environment. Specific operational positives include an effective sign-in system and courteous, professional front-desk staff. However, there are contradictory reports on cleanliness and maintenance: while many reviewers say the facility is very clean, a small number report serious problems (dead roaches in an elevator, very dirty room walls) and one reviewer moved their relative out the same day due to these issues. Maintenance responsiveness is also mixed: some positives (maintenance cleaned the elevator) contrast with comments about very slow responses (one report of 6.5 days to change a light bulb, and statements of "no maintenance at all"). These inconsistencies suggest variability in facility upkeep or uneven experiences across different units or time periods.

Communication, belongings, and follow-up: Another notable pattern is generally good communication and helpful customer service from many staff, but there are isolated but significant complaints about lost belongings and poor tracking/follow-up when items went missing. Reviewers reported promises to look into issues that were not kept, indicating room for improvement in accountability and follow-through on family concerns.

Notable patterns and recommendations: The dominant strengths of Riverside are the people — caring front-line staff, strong therapy teams, engaged administrators, and a lively activities program that contributes to both clinical recovery and resident well-being. The most critical negatives are operational: inconsistent maintenance and occasional serious cleanliness lapses, plus some unresolved issues around lost belongings and follow-up. Prospective residents and families are likely to have a very positive experience, particularly for rehab and pulmonary care, but it would be prudent to ask about current housekeeping and pest-control protocols, maintenance response times, and the facility's procedures for documenting and following up on personal belongings during intake and discharge. Overall, the reviews lean heavily toward recommending Riverside for compassionate care and effective rehabilitation, while flagging a few operational areas that the facility should address or clarify with families.

About Riverside Health and Rehabilitation Center

Riverside Nursing & Rehabilitation Center sits at 325 Jersey Street in Trenton, New Jersey, and has served the community for many years as a family-owned nursing facility, so you'll notice a sense of stability and care from the top down, with a focus on skilled nursing, rehabilitation, and dementia care all under one roof. Residents get help with daily living and access to both long-term and short-term skilled nursing care, but the center also helps people who need short stays for post-acute medical issues or surgery recovery, because therapists work with patients on physical, occupational, and speech therapy, and doctors closely handle medication management. The staff offers memory care for dementia and Alzheimer's needs, palliative care, and even respite care for families who need a temporary break, and if someone's got younger loved ones needing support, Riverside Pediatric Day Health Service Program and Riverside Pediatric Day Care handle pediatric skilled nursing and therapy needs, so the building has space both for older and younger patients with varying care needs. You'll find unique spaces in the building designed around resident safety and comfort, and the environment tries to feel warm and respectful with everyone's dignity in mind, because the owners and staff know community members want personal care options that actually fit real life, not a one-size-fits-all plan. Being part of Continuum Healthcare I Inc. makes it possible to keep up a wide range of therapy and care programs for many clinical challenges, so people with different backgrounds and conditions can get appropriate care. Riverside gives both outpatient and inpatient therapy, lets residents use helpful amenities like a gallery, and supports various services meant to lift well-being, help recovery, and let people live as independently as possible. The website at www.riversidenh.com offers more details if you want to see what daily life looks like there, but what matters most is Riverside's long history of meeting the needs of families who want practical, dependable care for their loved ones in a respectful setting.
