    Caring staff safe engaged community

I moved my mother to Peregrine Crossing and have been very pleased: the staff genuinely care, are friendly and responsive, and several team members (Tiffany, Jen, Kristyn, Chef Kevin) went above and beyond. The apartments are lovely, clean, pet-friendly, and the community offers abundant activities, transportation, and chef-driven meals my mom enjoys. Management is accessible and staff know residents by name, providing compassionate, timely care and good communication. The building is older, some bathrooms are small, and there have been occasional hiccups (price increases, temporary service issues), but those haven't outweighed the positives. Overall I feel my loved one is safe, engaged, and well cared for - I highly recommend Peregrine Crossing.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews is strongly positive with repeated emphasis on the quality of staff, the social atmosphere, dining, and activities. Reviewers consistently describe staff as warm, compassionate, and engaged — frequently by name — and say staff know residents personally and often go above and beyond. Many accounts highlight proactive and accessible management, effective event planning, and reliable maintenance that responds promptly. Multiple families reported improved quality of life for their loved ones, rapid accommodation of needs, and a genuine family-like community feeling.

Care quality and clinical supports receive largely favorable comments. There is a daily nurse presence, weekly physician and podiatrist visits, on-site physical and occupational therapy, medication management, and regular wellness oversight. Residents and families praised the care teams and nursing leadership for being attentive and communicative in many instances. However, some reviews flagged concerns about low staff-to-resident ratios or minimal direct care in specific cases, and a few isolated but serious operational complaints (for example, reported difficulty coordinating hospice care and an allegation of abrupt discharge) indicate that administrative and care-coordination processes can sometimes fail individual families.

Facilities and setting are frequently cited as strengths. The property is described as attractive and peaceful with woodsy grounds, a pond and fountain, courtyard seating, walking trails, and good outdoor spaces. Many units are spacious with large bedrooms, separate kitchenettes, and walk-in showers; ongoing renovations such as flooring replacements were noted to improve mobility and maintenance. At the same time, reviewers also mention an aging building in places; bathrooms can be small or harder to maneuver for those using walkers, and some common areas still need additional updates. The one-level layout is repeatedly appreciated for accessibility.

Dining is a consistently prominent positive theme. Reviewers praise the restaurant-style dining, the culinary-trained chef, varied menus, and the kitchen's responsiveness to preferences. Many reviewers specifically call out excellent meals, special desserts, and tailored entree choices; beverages and snacks are often available and sometimes included. A few reviews cite occasional quality inconsistencies (overcooked meals) and note the dining room can feel small during busy sittings.

Activities and social programming are robust and well-regarded. The calendar commonly includes live music, concerts, bingo (multiple times weekly), art classes, yoga, movies, games, shopping outings, and special events. Families report that programming keeps residents engaged and socially connected; staff in the activities department are singled out as friendly and effective. Transportation services for appointments and errands, scheduled shopping trips, and trips/resumed outings add to the sense of an active, connected community.

Cost and value perceptions are mixed. Many reviewers feel the overall package represents good value given the included meals, housekeeping, therapy, clinical oversight, and activities. Nevertheless, repeated mentions of hefty rent, annual increases, high care fees, and occasional additional charges (for example, disputed tray fees during outbreak-related quarantines) create financial concerns for some families. Prospective residents should clarify current pricing, fee schedules, and policies around increases and service changes.

Operational and safety concerns appear in a minority of reports but are significant when they occur. Specific issues include quarantine restrictions during COVID and a gastrointestinal outbreak, an ant infestation that led to resident displacement, and at least one report of an abrupt discharge. Falls in apartments and showers were reported in a few reviews, prompting mention of safety and bathroom design as areas to verify. Communication is a mixed bag: while many families praise proactive, thorough communication, others report inconsistent messaging, lack of callbacks, and problems transferring records at admission.

In summary, Peregrine Senior Living at Crossgate is portrayed as a warm, community-oriented assisted living with strong dining, active programming, attractive grounds, and caring, engaged staff. The primary trade-offs are cost (including recurring increases), some aging infrastructure or small bathrooms for certain units, and occasional operational lapses around communication and care coordination. Prospective residents and families should prioritize an in-person visit to evaluate specific apartment layouts and bathroom accessibility, ask detailed questions about fee structures and policies for rent increases or emergency discharges, and verify how the community handles infection control, hospice coordination, and staffing levels during peak needs. For many reviewers, the facility’s strengths in staff engagement, social life, and culinary quality make it a highly recommended option, while a smaller number urge caution and close scrutiny of administrative practices and physical accessibility before committing.
