    Compassionate staff, clean, beachside location

I was very pleased with my stay - the staff (nurses, therapists, social workers and admin) were attentive, professional and compassionate and helped my recovery. Clean, lively facility with great activities, good food and a convenient beach-side location; grateful to the team and would recommend, with only minor reservations.

    Summary of reviews

Resort Nursing Home elicits strongly mixed impressions. Many families and residents praise the facilityโ€™s rehabilitation strengths: a multidisciplinary therapy team (physical, occupational, speech, respiratory) and attentive nursing and aide staff are frequently credited with measurable mobility gains and successful short-term recoveries. Reviewers note supportive administrative and social-work services, a friendly front desk, and staff who create a welcoming, community-oriented atmosphere. Dining receives numerous positive mentions for menu variety and quality, and activity programming is often described as engaging and socially beneficial.

At the same time, a substantial number of accounts identify operational weaknesses that affect quality of care and family confidence. Staffing inconsistencies and workload strain are a recurring theme and are linked to delays in response, infrequent personal-care attention, and interrupted service continuity. Families describe gaps in routine communication and updates, which can increase anxiety during care transitions or acute events. Medication-management issues and occasional documentation irregularities are described; there are also specific, serious allegations concerning clinical record integrity that merit independent review.

Sanitation and personal-care practices receive mixed feedback: while some reviewers find rooms and common areas clean and comfortable, others describe localized sanitation and odor concerns and delays in incontinence-related care. Meal safety and monitoring are another area of variability โ€” positive dining experiences coexist with reports of adverse meal-related outcomes and unexpected weight loss in some residents. Visitor access and visitation policies are perceived as inflexible by some families, particularly during facility-wide restrictions.

Staff conduct and communication style are described in both positive and negative terms. Many accounts highlight compassionate, respectful interactions and individualized attention; others describe concerns about tone, attentiveness, and professional conduct that affect resident dignity and family trust. Additional operational issues raised include personal-property management gaps and language/communication barriers with some staff members.

For prospective residents and families, the facility appears capable of delivering strong rehabilitation outcomes and a supportive social environment when staffing and management systems are functioning well. However, the variability in clinical processes, communication, sanitation, and staffing suggests it is important to evaluate current operational practices during any visit. Recommended focus areas for assessment include staffing ratios and shift coverage, medication-administration and documentation protocols, infection-control and sanitation practices, meal service procedures and monitoring, family-communication pathways, and the facilityโ€™s process for investigating serious incidents or allegations. Asking to meet therapy and nursing leaders and observing meal and care routines can provide additional insight into whether the facilityโ€™s strengths are consistently realized for a given resident.

    About Resort Nursing Home

Resort Nursing Home sits in a peaceful area of Far Rockaway, NY, where it offers both long-term and short-term care for older adults, and you'll see that the place is well-suited for people with memory needs like dementia and Alzheimer's, since they have programs to help manage confusion and help keep residents safe from wandering. The facility holds 280 beds and operates as a skilled nursing facility, so there's a full team of well-trained nurses, helpful aides, and certified physicians who visit regularly and are on call around the clock, plus they've got specialists for things like wound care, intravenous therapy, and hospice in the event anyone needs end-of-life comfort with a gentle approach.

You'll see that their therapy department's equipped with high-tech tools, providing physical, occupational, and speech therapies, all to help folks recover skills, regain strength, or just keep moving as much as possible, and they put a special focus on keeping residents socially and mentally involved through interactive games, exercise routines, and a range of seasonal, educational, cultural, and religious activities, as well as special events. Meals get a lot of attention, too, with nutrition in mind, and they adjust the food to fit folks' backgrounds and needs, including a Russian Cultural Program where Russian-speaking residents can join in with familiar activities and even have special meals prepared for them.

Besides regular care, Resort Nursing Home has special units for complicated medical needs, including a Ventilator Trach Unit staffed by licensed respiratory therapists who're there 24/7, plus a Bariatric Unit for those who need help with moving around or transferring. The staff tries to make the place feel homelike, aiming to provide personal attention and keep the mood friendly and welcoming, with many reviews mentioning kind and joyful employees, and families often say the care is both compassionate and gentle, especially during hard times.

People who need support for a short stay, like someone recovering from illness or surgery, can use their respite care program, while people who need a place for the long haul get help tailored to their needs. The home includes amenities for comfort and tries to help keep everyone as independent as possible, so some residents join in both group and individual activities designed to help body and mind. Reviews have given the place high marks, with a 5-star overall rating from several families, and the facility's won awards like the Best of Senior Living Award and the Best of Senior Living All Star Award.

The federal CMS star ratings show Resort Nursing Home as a three-star facility overall, with three stars for health inspections, four stars for staffing, and two stars for quality measures, so while there's always room for improvement, the team stays focused on providing steady, attentive care, always with residents' comfort and security in mind. Social services staff help when someone is moving in from the hospital or heading back home, and everyone works together to try to make each day a little easier and brighter for the people who live there.
