The Commons on St. Anthony sits in the heart of Auburn and provides skilled nursing care, short-term rehabilitation, and a range of support services for older adults and people with health needs, having 300 beds in private or semi-private air-conditioned rooms with window views, emergency call systems, cable TV, and private bathrooms, and you see friendly staff right away who give the place a family-like feeling, which makes it easier for residents and families to feel at home, and you can always find someone in the hallways, whether that's Administrator Jolene Crehan or Vice President Nursing Joelle Margrey, who manage things hands-on. The place is part of Loretto's network and carries a long history in memory care since 1992, with dedicated spaces, including the Memory Life Community and a Memory Special Care Unit built for people living with Alzheimer's or other dementias, and the staff is well-trained, using both Montessori-based approaches and new technology, with things like color-coded halls, murals, familiar images, camouflaged elevators and doors, calm lighting, and digital tools that help with memory and safety. Residents have access to many therapies-physical, occupational, speech, respiratory, music, and pet therapy, not just for recovery after surgery or illness but also for mobility and independence, and care plans are tailored to each person, whether for short rehab stays or long-term skilled nursing care. The Commons offers three well-balanced meals daily and provides adult day care, assisted and independent living, memory care, nursing, home care, and senior services. Around the campus you see open areas, walking trails, garden benches, a gazebo, and both outdoor and indoor seating, so there are quiet places to sit, relax, or visit with friends and family, who can also join residents for guest meals or stop by the on-site chapel, hair salon, or even the gift cart for small comforts. Staff helps with medication, safety checks, diabetes management, nutrition, psychiatric support, palliative care, toileting, and 24/7 nurse coverage, so there's always someone available. Amenities include housekeeping, laundry, free Wi-Fi, personal care help, transportation for medical appointments or outings, and rooms with adjustable beds, bedside tables, and privacy curtains. Recreation programs run regularly, and there are music rooms, a beauty/barber shop, and spaces for social gatherings, plus computer access and free parking for visitors. The building's got ADA accommodations, advanced security, emergency response, and memory care extras like mechanized pets and calming scents, with committees guiding health and human services including senior support, mental health, environmental programs, and fire safety. The Commons holds a CMS overall 2-star rating (2 stars for inspection and staffing, 4 stars for quality measures). It serves as a support network, drawing on Loretto's wider healthcare experience, and tries to relieve stress for residents and families through a caring approach, steady routines, and thoughtful touches that help people feel welcome and respected.

Good rehab, poor long-term care
I have mixed feelings. The building is modern, clean and well-kept, and the rehab team, nurses and therapists are friendly, skilled and caring with convenient on-site services. However, staffing and administration are inconsistent - long call-button waits, spotty long-term care, food and sanitation complaints (including bedbug reports and mishandled belongings), and poor communication. I'd feel okay sending someone for short-term rehab, but I'd be cautious about long-term or dementia placement.
