    Negligent unclean abusive senior facility

I lived at this Brooklyn senior living facility and it was a nightmare. Management was negligent and nepotistic, staff were unprofessional (sometimes abusive and racist), ignored complaints, took money and refused paperwork, and even tried to hide residents in windowless rooms. The place was dirty (bed bugs, mice), food was inedible, COVID safety was absent - I would never recommend it; it should be shut down.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the review summaries is highly mixed but leans toward serious concern. Multiple reviewers allege severe problems including physical abuse, theft, neglect, pest infestations, and substandard food and nutrition. These are among the most serious recurring themes and are accompanied by urgent language such as calls for the facility to be shut down and requests that inspectors intervene. Several reviewers expressed that management ignores or dismisses complaints, and a pattern of alleged negligence and unprofessionalism is described in a number of accounts.

Care quality and staff performance are described in contradictory ways. On the positive side, some reviewers praise experienced, professional, hardworking staff who provide personalized, family-like care; the owner is said to personally know residents and their diagnoses, and a few reviewers explicitly stated they would stay at the facility because of the level of attention. On the negative side, many reviews report unqualified or inadequate staff, unpleasant and unprofessional behavior, and at least one explicit allegation of physical abuse by a worker. This contrast suggests inconsistent staffing or variable performance by different employees or shifts rather than uniformly good or bad care.

Facility conditions and sanitation are another major theme. Several reviewers allege bed bugs and mice, and one specifically described a small, windowless room likened to a "broom closet." Conversely, some reviewers describe the facility as "nice" and wheelchair-friendly, which again points to inconsistency in room assignments, cleanliness, or how different family members perceive standards. Recurrent complaints about missing clothing and limited storage, as well as allegations that money was taken from residents, raise significant concerns about resident safety, security, and dignity.

Dining and nutrition appear to be a consistent complaint among the negative reviews. Specific descriptions include diluted soup, cheap hotdogs, and generally inedible meals, with reviewers calling out poor nutrition. These anecdotes, if representative, indicate problems with menu quality, food preparation, or procurement practices. At least one reviewer contrasted these claims with other positive statements about staff, but the weight and emotional intensity of the food complaints suggest a meaningful pattern that would warrant verification.

Management, communication, and administration emerge as a core issue. Multiple reviewers describe management as ignoring concerns or engaging in nepotism (owner hiring family), and one alleges an administrative refusal to provide a W-2 combined with a racism claim. Several reviewers say phone calls were not returned and that complaints were not acted upon; some explicitly ask for inspections or closure. There are also conflicting reports about COVID safety—some state the facility complied with protocols while others assert there were no COVID precautions—which again indicates variable practices or differing experiences across time or staff.

Notable patterns and recommendations: the reviews show a high degree of contradiction, with a minority describing good, personalized care and a majority raising severe allegations (abuse, theft, pests, poor food, management indifference). The most frequently mentioned and serious issues are allegations of physical abuse, theft, sanitation/pest problems, poor nutrition, and administrative negligence. Given the gravity of those claims, they should be treated as urgent flags requiring independent verification. Potential next steps for someone evaluating this facility would include checking recent health and safety inspection reports, licensing and complaint records, confirmed dates for allegations (some complaints reference incidents long ago), and seeking first-hand references from current families or recent residents. The conflicting nature of the reviews suggests variability in quality of care across time, staff, or resident placements, so deeper investigation is strongly advised before making placement decisions.
