    Moved mom in, highly recommend

I toured and moved my mom in and couldn't be happier. The staff is caring, attentive and professional, the facility is spotless and home-like with beautiful grounds and bright, cozy rooms. The food is excellent, there are plenty of activities and social opportunities, communication is strong, and I feel she's safe-highly recommend.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews is strongly positive, with repeated emphasis on exceptional, compassionate staff and a warm, family-like atmosphere. The most frequent praise centers on the staff’s demeanor — described as kind, caring, attentive, and going “above and beyond.” Reviewers point to consistent, proactive communication with families, responsiveness in meeting needs, and a clinical team (nursing, physicians, case management) that is knowledgeable, caring, and well networked. Many comments highlight the facility’s ability to provide individualized attention and emotional support, helping residents adjust smoothly and form new friendships.

Care quality and safety are consistently lauded. Multiple reviews mention 24/7 oversight, steady daily routines, and a nursing team noted as top-notch and trustworthy. The presence of an on-site physical therapist who is “wonderful and engaged” is singled out as a tangible clinical strength. Reviewers also compliment physicians associated with the facility. The combination of attentive nursing, therapy services, and daily supervision contributes to families’ sense of security and peace of mind.

Dining is a clear strength and frequently described in glowing terms: “home-cooked,” “restaurant-quality,” and “chef-experience-shines-through” are common phrases. Commenters report plentiful choices, fresh and tasty meals, and accommodating dietary modifications at any time. Small touches like desserts, birthday cakes, coffee-time snacks, and occasional wine or beer during events contribute to a homey, celebratory atmosphere that families appreciate.

Facilities, grounds and atmosphere receive steady praise. The campus is often described as beautiful, park-like, and immaculately landscaped, with historic architecture (1922) and some modern updates (remodeled kitchens). Interiors are called bright and sunny, with private rooms and independent apartments that offer good views. Amenities such as a hair salon, exercise classes, pool, and game rooms are available, and many note that the environment feels non-institutional, welcoming, and comfortable.

Recreation and social programming are robust and varied. Reviews cite arts & crafts, music and entertainers, Bingo, crochet, dance, birthday parties, social coffee breaks, trips to fairs and local shows, and specialty groups like a Ladies Society. The activities team is repeatedly described as competent, patient and creative, and reviewers frequently report residents forming friendships and enjoying the social life. A few reviewers suggested expanding brain-stimulating offerings (more word games) and noted that not every activity suits every resident — some residents prefer to stay in their rooms despite the program’s breadth.

Management, administration and operational aspects also receive positive mention. Families describe tours as thorough and staff as open and forthcoming with information. Administration and front-desk staff are called welcoming and accommodating. Longstanding community ties, volunteer involvement, and a sense of tradition contribute to a perception of stability and commitment. Many reviewers explicitly state they would recommend the community and express gratitude for the care their loved ones receive.

The reviews do identify some minor and occasional concerns. Several people described certain parts of the facility as dated, with older elevators and a need for continued updates in places; others called the place ‘‘not modern’’ though still clean and well maintained. Availability can be limited — a few reviewers noted that there were no rooms available at times. Activity fit is another small recurring theme: while programming is extensive, a subset of residents do not engage and some reviewers asked for more cognitive/word-game activities. A couple of isolated comments used words like “overcrowded” or “overrated,” but these appear rare compared with the volume of positive reports. A minor resident preference raised was the desire to allow small pet birds in apartments.

In summary, the aggregated reviews present Plattduetsche Home Society as a high-quality, compassionate senior living community with outstanding staff, excellent meals, strong clinical support, and a lively social environment set on attractive grounds. Strengths are most evident in personal attention, cleanliness, dining, and recreational programming. The primary caveats are limited availability at times, some aging infrastructure that is being updated gradually, and the normal challenge of matching activity offerings to every resident’s interests. Overall, reviewers overwhelmingly recommend the community and emphasize the peace of mind and improved quality of life it has provided their loved ones.

    About Plattduetsche Home Society

Plattduetsche Home Society has provided care for seniors since 1923, sitting quietly on seven acres of park-like grounds with plenty of trees, shaded walking paths, gardens, and manicured lawns, so you often see folks relaxing under the gazebo or strolling near the pavilion. The facility stands in Franklin Square, just west of Queens, with easy access to the Hempstead Turnpike, LIRR, all Parkways, and is next to the Plattduetsche Park Restaurant, which makes it convenient for visiting families and local outings, plus a new train station's opening nearby soon to connect residents to more local attractions. Plattduetsche offers two housing choices-Adult Home and Enriched Housing-providing studio, private room, one-bedroom, junior two-bedroom, and two-bedroom units, all for those ages 65 and older, with private bathrooms, safety features like handrails, and wide corridors that support easy movement and independence.

Residents get daily home-cooked meals, chef-prepared and served plated in a nicely decorated dining room, and can request special diets if needed. There are game rooms, full libraries, a lounge, a swimming pool with a jacuzzi, a spa and wellness room, barbershop, and fitness areas with exercise machines. For recreation, residents might join arts and crafts in the hobby room, play shuffleboard or bocce ball, enjoy movie screenings, attend birthday parties, take water exercise classes, or play Wii Sports. The monthly calendar lists events like local trips and community-sponsored gatherings, and a Recreational Director plans regular activities such as bingo, word games, trivia, and holiday parties. The grounds and building are designed for safety, with large elevators, handrails, smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, a sprinkler system, and a public address system.

Plattduetsche supports residents with help for everyday tasks like bathing, dressing, transferring, and medication management, offering 12 to 16-hour nursing, 24-hour call response, housekeeping, laundry, maintenance, transportation, case management, counseling, and on-site physical therapy and doctor visits, including podiatry and psychiatry. An on-site mental wellness program helps those who need it. The Adult Home and Enriched Housing apartments allow seniors to stay as independent as possible while receiving care. Social life is strong, with resident-run programs, music, arts, gym activities, movie nights, and a Ladies Society that organizes fun community fundraisers like the Strawberry Festival.

The mid-rise building sits among large trees and has spots indoors and out where residents gather or simply enjoy the view. Plattduetsche has served the local community for generations, starting with German immigrants and now welcoming all backgrounds. Staff are known for their attention to cleanliness and detail, and reviews often mention how they go above and beyond to help. Most units include private bathrooms, and services cover everything from maintenance to supportive counseling.

Plattduetsche has received the 2025 Best of Senior Living Award from Seniorly, scored 9.9 as a community, and is ranked in the top 5% for resident satisfaction. Starting prices begin at $5,550 per month. Plattduetsche is a nonprofit, so the focus stays on value, comfort, and safety for seniors, and they've offered support for nearly a century-there's even a Legacy Lane Brick Program as a way to honor families and residents. Virtual tours are available for those interested in seeing the community online before a visit. The atmosphere is quiet, safe, and welcoming, providing both independence and care for older adults who want a peaceful place to call home.
