    Attentive staff, clean facility, inconsistent

I toured and moved in; the staff are uniformly friendly, attentive and communicative, and the facility is immaculate, homey and well-maintained with plenty of activities, a gym, porch and pleasant dining areas. Meals are provided and usually good, though food quality is mixed, dining can be understaffed, and regional/allergy preferences (there's a community cat) were concerns. Care is compassionate and generally responsive with memory care on the same floor, but staffing inconsistencies (weekends, waits for assistance) and occasional management/bookkeeping hiccups affect consistency. It's expensive, but I feel it's good value for the attention and amenities-recommended, though I remain cautiously optimistic.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews is strongly positive with repeated emphasis on the quality of care and the warmth and professionalism of the staff. Many reviewers describe Sunrise of Glen Cove as a beautiful, hotel-like community that feels homey rather than institutional. The facility is frequently praised as immaculate and well maintained, with attractive common areas (dining room, porch, bistro, beauty parlor, gym, TV room) and roomy, accessible apartments. Families and residents repeatedly note that staff are compassionate, knowledgeable, and attentive — staff often know residents by name and provide personalized care that makes families comfortable and grateful. Several reviewers explicitly state that care at Sunrise represented a marked improvement over prior settings and that the move enhanced residents' socialization, structure, and overall quality of life.

Care quality and staffing are among the most commonly mentioned strengths. Clinical needs are reportedly met reliably: medication schedules are adhered to, medical needs are addressed, and the nursing team is frequently described as top notch. Staff responsiveness and communication are highlighted across many reviews — staff respond promptly to questions or issues, keep families informed, and help maintain contact through FaceTime and visits. Families report that caregivers are empathetic, respectful, and gentle, and many reviewers express strong confidence in the team’s ability to care for residents with significant physical limitations. This consistent praise for caregiving contributes to many families recommending the community and one reviewer noting regret that they had not found Sunrise sooner.

The facility’s programming and amenities receive consistent positive mentions. There is a broad range of activities (music, puzzles, arts and crafts, cooking demonstrations, exercise, ball-throwing games, outings) often coordinated by an active social director who encourages participation. Reviewers cite increased stimulation and companionship as tangible benefits. The dining experience is generally praised for quality and variety — some reviewers describe meals as fine dining with a five-star, hotel-like feel, and note options such as a bistro for light meals. Housekeeping and laundry services are described as high quality, and the property is said to provide a welcoming environment for family visits and gatherings.

Despite the many positives, there are recurring concerns families and residents raise. Cost is a clear pain point — multiple reviewers note that Sunrise is expensive, and a few question whether coverage and services fully justify the price. Staffing shortages show up in several reviews, particularly in the dining room and on weekends, leading to slow meal service, occasional shortages (an example given was running out of eggs), and waits for assistance with bathroom or personal care. While many staff are praised, reviewers also report some inconsistency in caregiving quality, with a minority of staff described as less engaged. These staffing and service inconsistencies can translate into delayed responses and occasional frustration for families.

Dining and activity participation generate mixed feedback. Although many residents and families enjoy the meals and praise the dining room atmosphere, others call the food average or note regional preferences are not always met. Activity offerings are plentiful and creative, but participation varies — weather, COVID-related limits, and resident preferences mean some individuals may not engage as much as others. A few operational issues are reported infrequently, including bookkeeping or administrative hiccups, a delayed installation/maintenance item, and a comment that the community may not be ideal for short-term convalescent transitions. Accessibility for visitors was noted as a challenge by one reviewer, and one mention of a resident cat raised allergy concerns for another family.

In summary, Sunrise of Glen Cove earns consistently high marks for compassionate caregiving, excellent facility upkeep, engaging programming, and strong communication. The most prominent caveats are cost and intermittent staffing/service inconsistencies that affect dining speed and responsiveness during certain shifts. For families prioritizing a warm, well-appointed environment with attentive staff and a broad range of activities, reviewers overwhelmingly recommend Sunrise; for those most sensitive to price, short-term medical transitions, or guaranteed rapid responses at all hours, the community presents some areas to probe further during tours and contracts.

The community has helped seniors for over 35 years, offering several kinds of care including independent living, assisted living, memory care like the Reminiscence Program and Terrace Club, skilled nursing, short-term stays, respite, home care, hospice, and continuing care retirement options, all arranged so you or your loved one can find the right support when you need it. People get help with bathing, grooming, and other daily tasks if needed, but still keep as much independence as possible, all with staff present at all times and an on-site nurse around the clock for safety and peace of mind.

The memory care area is made for adults with Alzheimer's disease or other dementias-offering personalized plans, a secure setting, and special activities to keep folks' minds active, plus things like reminiscence therapy and sensory-based programs such as the snoezelen for gentle stimulation. Sunrise of Glen Cove has a home care service called Dignity Home Care, where seniors can get help from companionship and personal care to nursing, therapy, and hospice support, so even those staying for a short time get careful attention.

When you walk around, you notice the wide variety of spaces like studio apartments and private suites with large windows, modern bathrooms with grab bars, and homey touches like artwork, coffee tables, and kitchenettes. Residents get free Wi-Fi, meals, onsite beautician services, free parking, and regular transportation for errands, shopping, and outings to local restaurants, which those who like to get out seem to appreciate, and there are always activities going on both onsite and offsite-things like games, movies, crafts, music, and educational programs.

Staff and caregivers have specialized training and work to know each resident's preferences and needs, following custom-tailored care plans, which can change if someone's health needs change, and the Reminiscence unit is laid out for safety and comfort with its own activity rooms and schedules full of things to do and ways to connect. Families get support too, with guides, glossaries, and resources to help with senior care planning and even discussions about costs and what to expect. Staff coordinates hospice care and supports both residents and their families, always aiming to help people keep their dignity and quality of life. The facility's close to Northwell hospitals, so extra care's nearby if needed. Sunrise of Glen Cove works for those looking for a steady, personal approach to senior living, from independent living options to the highest levels of skilled care, in a community with friendly staff, helpful amenities, and a peaceful place to call home.
