    Warm, caring staff; excellent care

I moved my dad here and couldn't be happier. The staff are warm, caring and responsive-treating residents like family-and the facility is beautiful, clean and safe. He's made new friends, enjoys delicious fresh meals in a lovely dining room (no more cooking!), and stays active with exercise, bridge and scrabble. I feel confident he's well cared for and connected from afar - highly recommended.

About The Community at Sunset Wood

The Community at Sunset Wood sits in a part of the Mohawk Valley that covers places like New Hartford Village, Chadwicks, New York Mills, The Village, and Washington Mills, with streets and corridors like Commercial Drive, Genesee Street, Middle Settlement Road, Oneida Street, and Seneca Turnpike running through what folks recognize as the community area, and while the campus is designed for people aged 62 and older, it gives lots of living choices-assisted living, memory care, independent living, and home care as folks need. Sunset Wood's staff keep up a strong sense of kindness and help, and the board of directors watches over things so Sunset Wood can keep going with its goals, because they've been a non-profit since 1882, so they care about steady service, not big profits. You can find memory care there that helps people with Alzheimer's or other memory troubles, by making things safe, lowering confusion, and working to stop wandering, and there's also options so seniors who can live on their own get the chance to do that, enjoying daily life and meals prepared by chefs and planners focused on good food and nutrition. Event catering, a public pub, The Genesee Room, The Diner, and gracious community spaces round out dining and meals, and residents can find one-bedroom suites, two-bedroom penthouses, and other housing made for seniors. There's a focus on activities that keep people engaged, like counseling, event sponsorship, volunteering, general wellness through the SW Wellness Program, and things to help muscle retention and independence, along with gatherings such as a farmers market that brings out vendors and musicians. Staff handle membership, event posting, and help run programs, and you'll find amenities like a digital bulletin board for the community, on-site therapy, and dedicated programs for independence planning. Folks often say the staff bring warmth, friendliness, and support, and all these pieces add up, letting residents age in place among people who care, in a place that knows the value of staying connected and active for the mind and the body.
