    Caring staff small rooms construction

I had a generally positive but mixed stay. The staff were overwhelmingly caring, attentive, and went above and beyond - management and the CEO are engaged, meals were nicely seasoned, and I felt safe and supported - though they're clearly short-staffed and deserve a raise. Downsides: rooms are small and sometimes dirty, privacy can be limited by wandering residents, remodeling/construction is ongoing, a laundry loss occurred (they took corrective action), and signage near the elevators needs improvement.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the provided review summaries is predominantly positive, with consistent praise for the quality of care and the compassion of the staff. Multiple reviewers describe staff as pleasant, attentive, and willing to go the extra mile — helping with trays and meals and generally providing supportive, safe hands for residents. The activities program receives specific compliments, including an enthusiastic endorsement of the activities director, and several reviewers explicitly call the care "excellent" or say staff went "above and beyond." The leadership and management, including the CEO, are noted as caring and responsive, and at least one review mentions management’s attentiveness as a reassurance to residents and families.

Staffing and workforce themes are strong in these summaries. Reviewers repeatedly describe staff as hard-working and deserving of more recognition or compensation, and one explicitly states the environment is short-handed. This pattern suggests that while staff performance is highly valued, there are operational stresses related to staffing levels. Several comments emphasize that the staff remain committed despite those constraints, which reinforces the impression of dedicated caregiving even when resources are tight.

Facilities and environment comments are mixed. Some reviewers appreciate ongoing remodeling and repairs, indicating the facility is investing in improvements and addressing damage. However, there are also negative notes: reports of dirty rooms and small room sizes appear in the summaries, and wandering residents creating a lack of privacy is a specific concern. One review flags signage near the elevators as needing improvement, a relatively small but concrete operational issue that can affect navigation and resident/family experience. The presence of construction or repair work was mentioned; while that is framed positively by some as fixing damages, it also implies temporary disruption.

Service incidents and follow-up are present but limited. A laundry loss incident was reported, which is a clear service failure; importantly, reviewers indicate that corrective actions were taken afterward. This suggests the facility both experiences occasional errors and takes steps to address them. Another isolated negative comment mentions rude staff; however, that is contrasted by a larger number of comments praising staff friendliness and attentiveness, implying these may be rare or situational rather than systemic.

Dining and daily living receive favorable mentions: meals being seasoned and staff helping with trays are positive specifics that support the overall impression of attentive hands-on care. Respite stays are described as providing peace of mind, suggesting the facility can successfully serve short-term care needs as well as longer-term residents. The combination of excellent care comments, a praised activities program, and management that is seen as engaged creates a strong overall endorsement for the facility’s core care services.

In summary, the dominant themes are high-quality, compassionate care delivered by committed staff and supported by engaged leadership and a good activities program. Areas for improvement include staffing levels, occasional cleanliness and room-size concerns, privacy issues related to wandering residents, clearer elevator/signage, and vigilance around service errors like lost laundry. The facility appears responsive — taking corrective actions and investing in remodeling — which mitigates some concerns and indicates a trajectory of improvement. Prospective residents and families should weigh the strong positive staff and care feedback against the practical concerns (room size, staffing pressure, temporary construction) and might consider asking facility management about current staffing levels, remediation policies for lost items, timelines for renovations, and privacy measures for residents who wander.

About Rome Health Residential Health Care Facility

Rome Health Residential Health Care Facility, found in Rome, NY, is a non-profit nursing home and part of Rome Memorial Hospital, established back in 1887, and while it's been around a long time, people say it keeps adding services for older adults and families, and you'll find things like long-term care, short-term rehabilitation, and respite care, all taking a person-centered approach so the staff looks at what each resident needs, not just one type of care for everyone. There's an 80-bed skilled nursing area up on the third floor, where nurses and staff-like RN BSN Katrina Wolfe and Dr. Ryan Thachen-Cary-help folks with ongoing health needs and also help people recover after things like surgery or illnesses, with programs aimed at rapid recovery and rehabilitation. The building stays busy, because it's got about 1,001 to 5,000 employees across various departments, including specialized areas like orthopedics and sports medicine, offering treatments such as PRP injections for joint and tendon healing, and they also do things like pelvic floor rehab. It's got outpatient rehab services, a sleep center, primary care, even prenatal care, so families in different stages of life get care there-a lot of folks find comfort in that kind of setup. The facility stands out because it's affiliated with St. Joseph's Health and serves as a clinical site for New York Medical College, bringing in new doctors and students to help out and learn. It tries to make sure there's a caring environment for seniors, with special programs like a Senior Behavioral Health Unit, and people recognize it as a NICHE facility, meaning it's known for treating older adults well. They give expert guidance for long-term care and family caregiving, helping families make decisions, which comes in handy when people don't always know what steps to take. The nursing home and residential health care team aims for quality care every day, using a team approach, and while nobody says any place is perfect, this one works to handle the changing needs of older adults in the area.
