    Caring staff, beautiful grounds, satisfied

I've lived here four years. The staff are loving, caring and professional, the grounds are beautiful and the homemade food is delicious. Rooms are plain but the price is reasonable. Communication can be spotty and a few staff are unresponsive; there's a long waiting list, but overall I'm very satisfied.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews is strongly positive with recurring praise for the quality of personal care, the warmth of the staff, and the everyday living experience. Multiple reviewers describe staff as caring, loving, respectful and, in at least some accounts, professional. There are clear statements that residents are "well cared for," and one reviewer referenced a four-year stay with high satisfaction, indicating that the facility can support successful long-term placements. The consistent descriptors—loving, warm, amazing staff—point to a core strength in the interpersonal care culture.

Care quality and staff: The dominant theme is that staff provide compassionate, respectful, and attentive care. Many reviewers highlight the human side of care: staff who are loving, caring, and professional. This suggests that direct caregivers and many members of the team create a supportive environment for residents. However, there is a notable minority of reports citing unprofessional behavior, poor communication, and unresponsiveness. Those negative comments suggest variability in staff performance or in management of staff behavior; while most experiences are positive, there appear to be isolated or role-specific lapses that affect some families or residents.

Facilities and environment: Reviewers consistently praise the grounds, describing them as beautiful, which indicates attractive outdoor spaces and a pleasant campus environment. Inside the facility, opinions are mixed: the dining area receives positive mention, and the overall living environment is implied to be comfortable and homey, but several reviews describe individual rooms as "plain." That suggests public and outdoor areas may be nicely kept while some private spaces could be basic and in need of aesthetic updating or personalization options.

Dining and daily life: Food is a clear strength—multiple reviews specifically call out homemade and delicious meals and a good dining area. This suggests that the facility invests in resident dining and that mealtimes are a positive daily experience. Beyond dining, reviewers mention residents being well cared for and satisfied, but there is little specific information about activities, therapies, or programming in the summaries provided.

Management, capacity, and communication: A recurring operational concern is the long waiting list and commentary that expansion is needed. Several reviewers explicitly say the waiting list is too long, indicating demand exceeds capacity and that families may face delays to move in. Communication and responsiveness from staff or management are also flagged as problems in some reviews—complaints about poor communication and unresponsiveness are important because they can affect how families perceive care coordination and administrative support. Together, these points suggest the facility is popular and valued for its care and atmosphere but may be stretched thin, which could contribute to inconsistencies in professionalism and responsiveness.

Patterns and implications: The reviews form a clear pattern: strong praise for personal care, staff warmth, pleasant grounds, and good food, paired with operational strains—capacity limits, long waitlists, plain rooms, and occasional lapses in communication or professionalism. The balance of comments implies that the facility's core caregiving mission is being met for most residents, but facility improvements (room upgrades), better staffing consistency or training, and administrative changes to improve communication and address capacity would address the primary concerns expressed. The reasonable pricing noted by some reviewers is an additional positive factor that may contribute to overall satisfaction.

In summary, St. Joseph’s Adult Care Home appears to deliver high-quality, compassionate care in a warm, home-like environment with strong dining and attractive grounds. The most significant issues to address are capacity (long waiting lists), room aesthetics, and sporadic problems with communication and staff professionalism. These targeted improvements could help the facility match its operational performance to the high marks given for direct resident care and daily life.

About St. Joseph’s Adult Care Home

St. Joseph's Adult Care Home sits in Sloatsburg, NY, on the old Sloatsburg estate, and has a history with the Sisters Servants of Mary Immaculate, who provide care for the elderly, especially those in the Ukrainian community, and you'll find a family-like atmosphere here where residents get respect and dignity, with staff who speak English, Ukrainian, Polish, Spanish, and Creole so everyone's understood and there's help any time, day or night. This isn't a nursing home but a place for seniors who can mostly take care of themselves-there are private single rooms for 31 residents right now, some with their own bathrooms, and the building is two stories with an elevator so you don't have to do stairs, and residents can keep their own cars on site if they want to stay independent. St. Joseph's plans to grow with a new seven million dollar expansion that'll bring 19 more private bedrooms with baths, a larger chapel, a bigger dining room, an atrium, more laundry services, another nurse's station, a bigger generator for power, an upgraded alarm and security system, all aiming to make things safer, more comfortable, and better able to care for more seniors with assisted living and Alzheimer's care on top of what's already there. You get three home-cooked meals each day, menu options for folks who can't have salt or sugar, and help with meds and bathing if you need it, though no injections, and there's always a nurse or aide close by for other support. There are lots of activities-arts and crafts, Bingo, games, videos, cable TV, special events, music, guest entertainers, and holiday parties-and the landscaped grounds are nice for a walk or relaxing outside if the weather's good. Housekeeping and laundry are done for you, and there are hairdresser and barber services on site too. For those who want it, there are daily Byzantine Catholic Divine Liturgies or Latin Rite Masses in the bigger chapel, a Catholic priest for confessions, and space for spiritual retreats, plus the home arranges visits from doctors, dentists, foot doctors, psychiatrists, and therapists if needed, and will give referrals for extra nursing care. Residents have a solarium, activity room, and plenty of common areas to sit, chat, or watch movies, and the staff encourages everyone to take part in what they can, keeping folks active and engaged in a group setting where independence matters. The community focuses on caring for adults, with special support for those from the Ukrainian community, and stays committed to expanding care options without turning into a nursing home, while always aiming to keep things safe, friendly, and welcoming for all the seniors who call it home.
