    Warm admissions, caring staff, caution

I placed my loved one here and the admissions team - especially Tamara Brade and Laura - made the transition smooth, warm, and truly reassuring. The renovated memory-care wing, rooms and dining areas are modern and home-like and most staff are attentive and hands-on, but I noted inconsistent professionalism, poor food at times, privacy issues in shared rooms, and troubling cleanliness concerns (including reports of roaches/bed bugs). Overall I feel my family member is cared for and I recommend the facility with caution - ask directly about pest control, staffing consistency, and dining.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment and key pattern The reviews for The Veranda Assisted Living are predominantly positive, with strong, repeated praise for the people who work there and for recent renovations. The single most consistent theme is the quality of staff: many reviewers specifically name the admissions coordinator Tamara Brade (and several mention Laura West), describing them as warm, responsive, thorough, and instrumental in making difficult placement decisions easier. Across the majority of summaries families report feeling reassured, kept informed with daily updates, and confident that residents receive personalized, compassionate care. The facility is frequently described as clean, modern, and having a five-star hotel feel after renovations, especially the memory care wing, lobby, and dining areas.

Care quality, staff, and admissions experience Care quality is highlighted as a major strength. Reviewers repeatedly emphasize hands-on, attentive caregivers and nurses who treat residents with dignity and compassion. Many comments say staff know residents personally and create an extended-family atmosphere. Admissions and transition experiences are commonly described as smooth and supportive; reviewers praise the admissions coordinator for being flexible, accommodating, and staying in contact even after move-in. These personal interactions appear to be a key driver of overall satisfaction and referral likelihood.

Facilities, aesthetics, and amenities Physical upgrades and amenities are another strong positive. Multiple reviewers describe newly renovated spaces, a welcoming and very clean lobby, beautiful dining rooms, comfortable rooms, and an overall first-class decor. The memory care unit is repeatedly noted as new or renovated. Amenities mentioned include an on-site theater, regular recreational activities, shopping trips, and events that keep residents engaged and reduce loneliness. Families praise private visitor spaces and small acts such as celebrating birthdays, which reinforce a home-like feeling.

Dining, activities, and daily life Activity programming is reported as robust, with daily offerings, outings, and social opportunities that reviewers say keep residents engaged. However, dining receives mixed feedback: while the dining room is praised as beautiful and the atmosphere hospitable, some reviewers call out inconsistent food quality. Comments range from praise for good chefs to complaints that food quality varies and that staff sometimes listen more to financial concerns than residents' preferences. Overall, activities and social engagement are perceived as strengths, while meal consistency is an area with reported variability.

Management, communication, and follow-up Many reviewers praise administration for being supportive and communicative. The admissions process is described as transparent and straightforward, with clear assessments including FaceTime evaluations and explanations of memory care services. Families appreciate daily updates and the general ease of contacting staff. This strong communication is repeatedly linked to families feeling calm and secure about placements.

Notable concerns and inconsistent reports Despite the overall positive picture, there are several serious and recurring negative claims that introduce uncertainty. Some reviewers allege unsanitary conditions, including reports of roaches and bed bugs and descriptions of 'defiled' living spaces. Others describe unprofessional staff behavior, such as receptionists ignoring visitors or staff being engaged in personal conversations during visits. A few reviewers call the facility horrific or 'asylum-like', and some say photos on the website are misleading. Several comments emphasize inconsistency: while many families experienced exemplary care and cleanliness after renovations, a minority report very poor conditions and treatment. Additional practical concerns mentioned include two-person rooms offering minimal privacy and an entrance area in need of repair that could be a safety hazard.

Assessment and implications Taken together, the pattern is one of a facility that, for many families, delivers high-quality, compassionate care in a well-maintained, recently renovated environment with strong admissions support and active programming. The most frequently cited strengths—personable admissions staff (especially Tamara), responsive communication, welcoming atmosphere, and engaging activities—are consistent across numerous reviews. The negative reports, while less numerous, include severe allegations about sanitation and professionalism that warrant attention because they are consequential to resident safety and wellbeing.

Practical next steps for prospective families Given the mix of highly positive and some alarming negative reports, prospective families should weigh the predominant positive experience but verify the issues flagged by others. Useful follow-up steps include visiting in person (including meal times), asking about pest control and cleaning protocols, requesting current inspection or incident records, meeting nursing and kitchen staff, confirming room configurations and privacy options, and observing staff interactions with residents. Asking the admissions team about how they investigate and resolve complaints may also help assess consistency.

Conclusion Overall, The Veranda Assisted Living is repeatedly described as warm, professional, and renovated with a strong, caring staff and robust programming—attributes that make many families feel reassured and grateful. However, documented claims of serious cleanliness and professionalism issues, though less frequent, are significant. The reviews point to a facility that can offer excellent care and environment when operations are consistent, but that may have variability in some areas. Prospective families should rely on the many positive reports about staff and amenities while proactively checking on the specific negative concerns that arose in a subset of reviews.
