    Terrible care, theft, neglect, unsafe

I placed my mom here and had to remove her - the location by Silver Lake is nice but everything else was awful. Staff theft and missing clothes were common, the facility was filthy, meals were poor or skipped, and meds/medical care were neglected (a resident died of diabetic ketoacidosis after apparent neglect). Management was aloof and money-focused, security low, and I had to constantly supervise staff; snow/ice removal was inconsistent and unsafe. In short: terrible care, unsafe conditions, don't trust them with a loved one.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment from the collected reviews is mixed but strongly skewed toward serious concern. While a minority of reviews praise aspects such as individual staff members, responsiveness in planning, a few positive food remarks, and attractive site features (lake-view deck, nearby Silver Lake Pond, walkable neighborhood), a larger and more consistent set of complaints raise significant red flags about care quality, safety, management, and basic operations. The positive reports suggest the facility has potential strengths in location, some staff interactions, and certain amenities, but these are frequently overshadowed by recurrent and severe negative reports from other reviewers.

Care quality and medical oversight are central areas of concern. Multiple reviews allege neglect of residents, infrequent physician visits, poor encouragement of mobility, and inadequate administration of medications. The most serious allegation is a reported death due to diabetic ketoacidosis tied to medication/monitoring failures. Several reviewers describe deterioration of relatives while in residence, indicating gaps in daily nursing care, monitoring of chronic conditions, and follow-through on medical needs. Although some families reported "good care" and professionalism from certain staff, the pattern of medication errors, infrequent doctor contact, and reported neglect points to inconsistent clinical standards.

Staffing and management show a stark divide in perception. A subset of reviews praises staff excellence, responsive communication, and coordinated planning; however, many more reviews describe systemic problems: theft by staff, missing personal items and clothing, low security, and the need for families to constantly supervise staff to get basic tasks completed. Management is frequently characterized as disconnected, aloof, or money-focused—cutting corners to increase margins rather than addressing care concerns. This inconsistency suggests variable staff performance and potentially high turnover or weak leadership, causing widely divergent family experiences.

Safety, security, and environment are recurring themes. Multiple reviewers report theft, low security, panhandling, traffic disruption, and an influx of formerly homeless residents in ways they felt were unmanaged. Exterior maintenance is uneven: main entrances and parking areas reportedly receive snow removal, but other walkways are neglected and not salted, creating safety hazards. Several reviews express fears of potential injury and general neglect of resident safety. Descriptions such as "prison-like environment" and residents being treated "like cattle" indicate serious concerns about dignity, supervision, and the overall culture of the facility.

Dining and cleanliness are also contentious. While a few reviewers complimented the food, many others report the opposite: unhealthy, poor-quality meals, missing meals, and complaints that the food is the "worst." Combined with allegations of a filthy facility and missing clothing, these comments point to inconsistent standards of housekeeping, laundry, and dietary services. The contrast between favorable and unfavorable food reports may reflect variability by unit, shift, or over time, but the volume and seriousness of negative comments merit attention.

Facilities and activities present a mixed picture. Positive features include a scenic lake-view deck, some common spaces, small entertainment options (Xbox, music speaker), bridal suite accommodations, and pet-friendly gestures. The location near Silver Lake Pond and walkable surroundings are clear assets cited by several reviewers. However, the facility is noted as "not luxury," with limited on-site activities, no exercise facility, and few structured programs. Several families explicitly stated there was no motivation from staff to keep residents active, reinforcing concerns about rehabilitation and quality-of-life programming.

Patterns and notable contrasts: a recurring pattern is disagreement between reviews — some praise staff and certain services while many others report severe failings. The most consistent and serious negative themes are theft, medication/medical oversight failures, management unresponsiveness, poor food and cleanliness, and safety/security problems. Positive items are primarily physical amenities and sporadic reports of good individual staff interactions. Given the severity of some complaints (including a reported death attributed to medical mismanagement), these reviews collectively suggest inconsistent care delivery and leadership issues that materially affect resident safety and well-being.

For families considering Lakeside Manor Home For Adults, the reviews suggest strong reasons to conduct an in-person, detailed assessment: observe meal service, cleanliness, staff-resident interactions, medication administration procedures, and security measures; ask management for documentation of staffing levels, turnover, incident reports, and clinical oversight; and seek references from current residents' families. The presence of attractive amenities and a desirable location do not appear to compensate for the repeated and serious operational and clinical concerns reported by multiple reviewers. Careful, specific inquiry and ongoing monitoring would be essential if choosing this facility.

Meals are cooked daily and there are meal plans if someone's dietary needs are different, plus you get three homemade meals every day with snacks, and they say they're planned by chefs and meal planners who think about nutrition and taste.

They base care plans on each person's needs, so support can cover just meals and simple help or go all the way up to full nursing care and medication help, and often try to keep things calm and soothing. The facility can serve adults needing long-term stays, as well as those who need only extended or short-term care, which they handle as part of a bigger adult care network. Known for their staff's friendly attitude, the facility focuses on a resident-first approach, and they try to keep the facility welcoming and based on best practices from NYSHFA NYSCAL.
