    Clean facility but chronic neglect

I lived/visited here and my experience was mixed but mostly negative. The building, grounds and patio are clean, food and activities can be decent, and a few nurses/aides truly go above and beyond. Sadly I also saw chronic neglect: residents left in soiled briefs, long unanswered call buttons, medication errors, rude/incompetent doctors, short-staffing (night staff sometimes absent/asleep) and poor communication from management. Rehab staff tried to help but equipment and focus on recovery were lacking. I would not trust this place with a vulnerable loved one despite some caring employees.

    About NYC Health + Hospitals/SeaView

NYC Health + Hospitals/SeaView sits in Staten Island at 460 Brielle Ave, surrounded by old trees, and the place has a history that goes back over a hundred years, because it first opened between 1905 and 1938 as a hospital for people with tuberculosis, and that whole complex is now on the National Register of Historic Places as a City Landmark, with many old Colonial Revival and Tudor Revival style buildings like the old Administration Building, Nurses Residence, Surgical Pavilion, Power House, Pathology Lab, and several chapels still standing along with additions made for sanatorium care like Colony Hall, the Group Building, the Men's and Women's Open Air Pavilions, the Staff House, and the rehab hospital itself, so you really get this sense of history every time you walk around the halls, and you'll also see the Parklane at Seaview, which is an independent senior living area right on site. The place is run by NYC Health + Hospitals and the administrator is Matthew Levy, and it runs as a public facility for both healthcare and social care, acting as a long-term care and skilled nursing home, offering regular hospital care as well as specialized programs, and it was even the first downstate New York rehab center for people with long-term brain injuries, which means they're used to working with tough cases. SeaView gives people access to both short-term rehab and long-term skilled nursing care, along with Alzheimer's and dementia services, subacute care, traumatic brain injury programs, and outpatient services, and you can get a lot of different kinds of health help there, including regular doctor checkups, urgent and emergency help, cancer care, diabetes care, asthma programs, mental health treatment, vision and dental care, help with HIV/AIDS, LGBTQIA+ services, obstetrics and women's health, and even abortion care. The staff also works with people needing stroke care or heart treatment, and they coordinate with trauma centers, plus you get things like child and youth health, hearing help, and correctional health services too, since it's all part of the big NYC Health + Hospitals network that reaches across the city with partners like Bellevue, Harlem, Lincoln, Jacobi, Woodhull, and many others. You'll find simple comforts too, like a coffee shop run by friendly workers near the Sea View Playwright's Theatre and Daddino's Grand Ballroom, so the place feels both busy and welcoming for patients and visitors. SeaView focuses on helping people recover and stay well, offering care in an inclusive, supportive atmosphere, and all the staff aims to support both physical and emotional health for every person who walks through the door.
