    Compassionate dementia care; costly fees

I placed my loved one here and have been impressed: compassionate, attentive caregivers who provide one-on-one, dementia-focused care; engaging activities (music, games, puzzles, gardening); three good meals plus snacks; a private room with a courtyard view; and a clean, homelike, secure atmosphere. Staff genuinely go above and beyond, management communicates well, and residents clearly feel valued. Downsides: small community, visible staffing shortages (12-hour shifts, occasional staff coming in sick, a few soiled entryway chairs), and a $5,000 non-refundable application fee plus high overall costs that may not match expectations. I highly recommend the team and facility but advise clarifying staffing and fees before committing.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment: The reviews for Murray Highland Memory Care are strongly positive with repeated emphasis on compassionate, person-centered dementia care and a warm, home-like environment. Across multiple reviews, families and visitors consistently highlight an affable, highly engaged staff who connect well with residents, creating a family-like atmosphere where residents feel valued, respected, and safe. The facility is frequently described as boutique-style, calming, and purposefully designed for memory care with clear signage, secure outdoor areas, and a pleasant aesthetic that supports independence and comfort.

Care quality and staff: The dominant theme is the high quality of memory care provided. Reviewers repeatedly praise a highly trained dementia-care team delivering individualized attention, dignity, and meaningful engagement. Caregivers are described as compassionate, empathetic, professional, and deeply engaged — going “above and beyond” and forming genuine relationships with residents. Many reviewers state residents “love the team” and would recommend the community. However, several reviews also raise staffing concerns: some note limited staffing levels, 12-hour shifts, and indications of staff coming to work while ill. These staffing-related notes introduce a potential inconsistency between the evident warmth and skill of the staff and concerns about staffing sustainability and infection control.

Activities, programming, and dining: Programming is a clear strength. Reviewers mention a thoughtful, varied activity calendar that includes music nights, gardening club, games, puzzles, exercise, and other cognitive-stimulation offerings. An active activity director and engaged programming contribute to strong resident engagement and social connection. Dining is also frequently praised — described as delicious with three meals per day and snacks available anytime — and overall reviewers view food and mealtimes positively as part of the community experience.

Facilities and cleanliness: Many reviews describe the building as clean, fresh, well-maintained, and thoughtfully decorated to feel like home. Positive specifics include good-sized bathrooms, private rooms with courtyard views, boutique-style décor, and purposeful layout supporting safety. That said, there is a recurring negative detail: multiple reviewers call out soiled or stained chairs in the entryway that produce a poor first impression. This single, repeated cleanliness concern contrasts with other comments calling the facility “spotless,” indicating some inconsistency in perceptions or recent changes in maintenance standards. Prospective families should inspect common areas during a tour to confirm current conditions.

Management, communication, and admissions: Management and leadership receive favorable comments for communication, transparency, and responsiveness. Reviewers note helpful move-in support, clear answers to questions, and strong family communication. On the admissions side, there are practical concerns: several reviewers flagged a $5,000 non-refundable application fee and generally high costs, and some felt the price did not always match the perceived level of care. Conversely, some reviewers described the community as good value, so opinions on cost vary. The facility can be fully booked at times, which suggests demand but also means availability may be limited for new residents.

Notable patterns and recommendations: In sum, Murray Highland Memory Care is portrayed as a warm, resident-centered community with high memory-care expertise, engaging programming, strong leadership, and a homelike environment. Major selling points are the quality of caregiver-resident relationships, purposeful dementia design, and active social/cognitive programming. The primary negatives that recur across reviews are a specific cleanliness issue at the entry (soiled chairs), infection-control concerns related to staff attending work while ill and coughing without masks, staffing pressures (long shifts and shortages), and admissions costs/fee structure. Prospective residents and families should consider touring the community to evaluate current cleanliness and maintenance, ask about staff-to-resident ratios and scheduling (to understand 12-hour shift impacts), confirm infection-control and sick-staff policies, and request full disclosure on all fees and refundable/non-refundable policies. Verifying current availability and recent changes in staffing or maintenance will help ensure expectations align with the community’s strong reputation for compassionate memory care.

    About Murray Highland Memory Care

Murray Highland Memory Care sits over in Beaverton, Oregon, in a new, two-story building that's got big windows, high ceilings, and lots of natural light, which helps people feel comfortable and lets everyone see what's going on outside. The facility's designed to provide care for folks with Alzheimer's and various dementia issues, focusing on making life easier and safer for those who live there. With a little over 20 years in senior care, this family-owned community sticks to their goal of giving residents a place that feels like home, where people know them and take care of their special needs without rushing or talking down to anybody. Everything there, from the way meals get served family style in a big dining room with meals cooked in a full chef's kitchen, to having private and shared studio apartments that come with their own bathrooms and climate control, is meant to make life smooth for folks who might get confused or need a bit more help.

Residents get help around the clock, whether it's for bathing, getting dressed, moving around, or remembering to take medicines, and the staff is used to helping with challenges that come along with memory loss and confusion. There's always someone on duty for safety or to help with medical issues, including managing medication, monitoring blood pressure, or arranging doctor appointments, and there's even outside physical therapy if needed. They support health with three balanced meals every day, plus snacks, and can adjust what's served based on health, taste, or cultural needs. Folks can eat together in the dining room or with help if that's what they prefer, and the menus are made to look nice and taste good, which sometimes helps stimulate the appetite in people with dementia.

The staff's known for being kind and treating people with patience, offering lots of help with daily things like laundry, cleaning, or small stuff like shoe shining and mending clothes. There's also a little hair salon on-site for grooming, plus weekly housekeeping and fresh linens, which keeps things feeling clean and comfortable. Residents can also keep their pets with them, which can help them relax and feel at home. Rooms come with WiFi, and there's cable TV in both the common areas and in the apartments, so people can stay busy or connected if they want.

Murray Highland Memory Care offers daily activities, both fun and useful, like group events, games, fitness, and social programs that run every day to help people stay active and connected. Staff always help residents get to meals or activities and talk things through when someone's agitated or struggling to communicate. They're trained to spot changes in behavior and step in early, keeping folks as safe and happy as possible. The building is small, with just 24 beds, so care stays pretty personal and there's a focus on knowing what each person likes and needs.

The facility helps manage personal business, assists with errands like health supply orders, and respects every resident's background, honoring religious and cultural preferences in both care and food. The environment at Murray Highland Memory Care feels simple, friendly, and like a real home, where staff and residents all get to know each other, and families often mention how much lighter they feel once their loved one is settled in. The place's designed with memory care in mind, offering a safe, supportive environment for seniors facing challenges with memory, and staff handle needs with dignity and respect, making all the difference when days get confusing or routines change.
