    Warm welcoming attentive dog-friendly community

I live here in Florence and couldn't be happier - the staff are kind, respectful and genuinely attentive (Beth Webb and the team are outstanding), the food is excellent and nutrition-minded (restaurant-style dining, great salad bar, burgers, apple pie and coffee), and the renovated, roomy one-bed apartments with dog-friendly patios feel warm and homey. There are tons of activities and a strong, family-like culture that made our move smooth and reassuring, residents seem happy and safe, and extra services are convenient. A couple practical downsides: some carpets are hard for wheelchairs and I've heard occasional privacy/security concerns. Overall, highly recommended.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment in the reviews is strongly positive, with repeated praise for the staff, caregiving quality, social environment, and the overall day-to-day living experience at Shorewood Senior Living. Across many comments reviewers emphasize that staff are kind, attentive, and go out of their way to meet residents' needs. Several reviewers named specific staff and leaders (for example a server and the manager Beth Webb) as examples of responsiveness and compassion, and multiple summaries describe a family-like culture in which staff know residents by name and provide personalized attention. The facility is credited with effective transitions for new residents and with being particularly accommodating and respectful of residents' needs, including dementia-appropriate care and customized solutions.

Care quality and staffing stand out as the facility's strongest attributes. Reviewers consistently describe a caring, competent team — from the kitchen and dining servers to the activity director and executive leadership. The activity director is noted as attentive and engaging, and staff are described as available and responsive, fostering a sense of safety, comfort, and peace of mind for residents and families. Several reviews call out the facility's willingness to provide extra services for a reasonable charge and to make proactive accessibility adjustments, which suggests an operational focus on individual needs and practical problem-solving.

Dining is another frequently mentioned strength. Numerous reviewers praise the restaurant-style dining experience, naming specific favorites such as an excellent salad bar, burgers, apple pie with ice cream, and good coffee. A nutrition-focused approach is also mentioned, with references to a vitamin-plus meal program and involvement from nutritionists or university partners. That said, there is a notable nuance: while many rave about the food quality, a minority of comments indicate that offerings could be improved or diversified. In short, dining is generally a highlight but some reviewers would like greater consistency or more variety in meal options.

Activities and social life receive consistent commendation. The community is described as lively, with many opportunities for residents to engage, socialize, and stay active. Common areas that have been remodeled, a library, courtyard, and on-site programs contribute to an environment where residents can build friendships and find outlets for involvement. That said, a recurring, smaller theme is that some residents say they get bored or choose not to participate; in a few instances family members noted that parents were reluctant to join activities. This suggests that while programming is plentiful and well-run, individual engagement levels vary and some residents may need extra encouragement or tailored programming.

Facilities and location are generally well-regarded. Reviewers highlight renovated common areas and apartments, roomy and nicely decorated units, enclosed dog-friendly patios, and a pleasant campus with grounds and walking trails. The facility’s location in Florence with walkable access to stores and restaurants is cited as a convenience. However, multiple reviewers point out areas for improvement: the building is not portrayed as a high-end or brand-new facility, and specific accessibility concerns are raised — notably that carpeting in some areas makes maneuvering wheelchairs more difficult. Privacy and security are a specific concern raised by a few reviewers who mentioned issues such as lack of locked doors and feelings of privacy invasion; this stands out as a safety-related issue that prospective residents and families should clarify with management.

Management and operational notes are mostly favorable. Several reviewers applaud leadership for smooth transitions, strong communication, and an overall first-class feel. The community is often described as clean, welcoming, and well organized; reviewers frequently express gratitude and recommend the community to others. Positive mentions of early access to COVID vaccines and available guest rooms further reinforce the perception of a facility attentive to residents’ wellbeing and family needs.

In summary, Shorewood Senior Living is consistently portrayed as a caring, well-run community with strong staff engagement, robust social programming, good dining, and comfortable living spaces. The most important strengths are the staff culture, personalized care, social atmosphere, and renovated amenities. Prospective residents should, however, consider a few recurring limitations: the facility is not a luxury, brand-new building; there are some mobility-related issues with carpeting; some residents report boredom or low participation; and a few reviewers noted privacy/security concerns that warrant direct questions during a tour. For families and seniors prioritizing warmth, hands-on staff, social opportunities, and dependable daily care, Shorewood appears to be a solid choice. For those seeking a higher-end aesthetic, maximum wheelchair accessibility throughout carpeted areas, or guaranteed locked-door privacy features, it would be advisable to tour the property and confirm those specifics with management.
