    Mother loved it despite hospice

My mother loved it - she made friends, they allowed her cat, admission was quick, and staff were wonderful, often bringing meals to her room (Swedish meatballs showed up once). Care was very good until the end, but hospice staff were unresponsive and promises weren't kept; I also saw staffing and management turnover and occasional shortages. Meals tended to be boring (minor complaints), they moved her quickly from rehab to assisted living, and anyone considering it should confirm Medicaid coverage.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the review summaries is mixed: several reviewers report very positive, even exceptional, experiences while others describe significant problems. Positive comments emphasize compassionate, attentive staff, a warm social environment where residents made friends, pet-friendly policies (cats allowed), and strong hospice/end-of-life care. Negative comments highlight chronic operational problems such as staffing shortages, frequent turnover (both frontline and management), meal dissatisfaction, and instances of neglect or broken promises. Financial and process concerns (Medicaid coverage and rapid transfers from rehab) are also noted.

Care quality shows a clear split in experiences. Multiple reviewers said their family member was happy and well cared for—examples include a mother who loved the place, staff providing very good care in final days, and hospice support being integrated and effective. Conversely, other reviews allege neglect, unresponsiveness, and promises that were not kept, leaving some reviewers not impressed. This pattern suggests care quality can be highly dependent on which staff are on duty and which leadership team is in place at a given time.

Staffing and management are recurring themes. Many reviews praise individual caregivers as wonderful and willing to go above and beyond, and some staff are credited with facilitating smooth, quick admissions and supportive end-of-life care. At the same time, multiple mentions of staffing shortages and high turnover—along with management turnover—point to instability that likely affects consistency of care. When staffing is adequate, experiences tend to be positive; when turnover and shortages are present, reviews are more likely to report neglect or unmet expectations.

Dining and food receive mixed feedback. Some reviewers enjoyed specific items (Swedish meatballs was called out) and appreciated that meals could be brought to a resident’s room. However, several comments describe the menu as boring and note minor meal complaints. Dining appears to be an area with both occasional highlights and recurring dissatisfaction, indicating potential variability in menu planning or execution.

Admissions, finances, and policies are additional considerations. The facility is described as capable of admitting residents quickly in at least some cases, which can be important when transitioning from hospital or rehabilitation. However, there are concerns about a rapid move from rehab to assisted living that felt abrupt to a reviewer, and questions about Medicaid coverage suggest families should verify current payment policies and acceptance. The combination of a rapid admission process and reported management turnover suggests prospective residents and families should confirm details and get written assurances where possible.

Social life and environment have positive notes: reviewers reported that residents made friends and that pets (cats) are allowed, which can improve quality of life and community feel. This social strength is one of the commonly cited pros and may be a differentiator for families seeking a friendly, resident-centered atmosphere.

Notable patterns: (1) Experiences vary widely—some families describe exemplary, compassionate care while others report neglect; (2) staff and management stability appears to be a major determinant of experience; (3) dining is inconsistent, with isolated positives but several complaints about a boring menu; (4) administrative issues (Medicaid, speed of transfer from rehab, broken promises) warrant careful pre-admission questions.

Recommendations for prospective families based on these reviews: visit multiple times at different times of day to observe staffing and mealtimes; ask about current staffing levels, turnover rates, and recent management changes; request written policies on admissions and transitions from rehab; verify Medicaid acceptance and financial terms in writing; discuss hospice and end-of-life services if relevant; and talk to current residents and families about social activities and pet policies. Given the mix of strong praise and serious concerns, due diligence and up-to-date verification will be important to gauge whether Marquis Forest Grove Assisted Living is a good fit at the time of inquiry.
