    Clean welcoming small assisted living

I feel relieved and blessed to have found this small, well-equipped place - the owner is a highly respected caregiver and the staff are very well-trained and compassionate. Mom gets excellent care in clean, private rooms with in-room bathrooms and safety transfer equipment; the facility is organized, well-staffed, welcoming to family, and even celebrates holidays with great food. Overall, a very good option for assisted living and I'm comfortable with her there.

    Summary of reviews

Reviews present a mixed but distinct profile. Positive comments emphasize a small, home-like environment with compassionate, well-trained staff, private en-suite rooms, and physical supports such as safety transfer equipment. Several families praise the facility's organization, holiday programming and social events, and the quality of meals. Multiple reviewers also highlighted a dedicated owner/caregiver presence and a family-friendly visitation approach, which can be important for social connection and oversight.

Care and staffing are described in both positive and cautionary terms. On the positive side, caregivers are characterized as compassionate and competent; some reviewers expressed relief and gratitude for the staff's attentiveness. At the same time, concerns surfaced about inconsistent care processes — most notably medication-administration controls and staff responsiveness during clinical events. These points suggest variability in operational consistency and raise questions about incident-response protocols and staff supervision during emergent situations.

Dining, activities and facilities receive generally favorable comments. Reviewers who were positive about the home cited good meals, a well-equipped interior, seasonal celebrations, and orderly living spaces. However, cleanliness and housekeeping standards were described as uneven by other reviewers, indicating that sanitation and routine housekeeping may not be uniformly enforced across all areas or times.

Management, recordkeeping and transparency are areas callers should review closely. Comments include instances of owners or staff accessing records without prior family approval and at least one allegation questioning the provider's financial or ethical transparency. These items point to potential gaps in privacy safeguards, record-access policies, billing clarity, and in some cases, a perceived lack of managerial accountability or effective communication with families.

Overall pattern and recommendations: the facility appears to offer a family-oriented, small-scale assisted-living option with strengths in interpersonal care, meals, and holiday engagement. Notwithstanding those strengths, recurring themes around inconsistent medication practices, uneven housekeeping, emergency-response gaps, and concerns about record access and financial transparency warrant careful investigation. Prospective residents and families should request written protocols for medication administration and incident response, ask about staffing levels and shift coverage, review housekeeping schedules, verify privacy and record-access policies, and clarify billing/contract terms before admission. Visiting during different times of day and speaking directly with current families can help gauge whether the operational concerns are isolated or systemic.

    About Graceland Care Homes

Graceland Care Homes Inc. sits in Newport, Oregon, and offers a variety of care services for seniors, especially those needing memory care for Alzheimer's and dementia. The community supports both independent living and assisted living, and gives families the option of private or short-term respite stays if a loved one needs temporary help. Staff provide care day and night, and are trained to handle behaviors that come with memory loss, including wandering and aggressive actions, with secured areas and a computerized alert system to keep everyone safe. Services include medication management, incontinence care, diabetic care, and even high-acuity support for those who need extra medical attention. Residents who don't walk on their own can get help with transfers, including mechanical lifts.

The staff at Graceland Care Homes can assist in both English and Chinese and are known for keeping the place clean, organized, and friendly. The owner has a solid reputation for gentle caregiving, and the facility offers a peaceful setting close to parks, shopping, pharmacies, hospitals, restaurants, and churches. People can age in place, meaning they don't have to move even when their care needs change, since the home has levels of support ranging from light help to heavier nursing care. There are routine reminders and help with daily tasks, such as bathing, dressing, and grooming. The property has both indoor and outdoor spaces for residents to relax or socialize, and the team organizes both on-site and off-site activities, including devotional services for those who want spiritual time. Residents get nutritious meals every day, with options for vegetarian or kosher diets, and specialists on staff help those needing diabetic-friendly dishes. The home offers transportation for errands, appointments, or outings, with resident parking and extra transport at a cost if needed.

Graceland Care Homes stands out for accepting residents who wander, are at risk of elopement, or have major behavioral challenges, and staff use regular routines and devices to help keep everyone safe. The community welcomes families to tour the facility, meet the staff, and see daily life firsthand. Rooms include wheelchair-accessible showers, and the design supports people with physical or cognitive challenges. The care team doesn't shy away from advanced needs, like hospice care or significant memory loss, and the overall approach is to help every resident keep as much independence as possible while still getting the right amount of support.
