    Clean facility, inconsistent care, cautious

I'm torn: the facility is clean, smells fresh, and many staff are kind, helpful and attentive - my mother received compassionate, personalized care and engaged in activities. However, staffing is inconsistent; I witnessed rude, unprofessional or seemingly untrained caregivers, ignored doctor's orders, long waits between shifts, and health declines with falls. It's pricey and management felt money-driven, so I'd recommend with caution.

    Summary review

The reviews for Homeland Center are strongly polarized, with a clear split between many highly positive experiences and several severe negative accounts. On the positive side, reviewers frequently praise the caregiving staff as friendly, kind, compassionate, and accommodating. Housekeeping and cleanliness—particularly on the first floor—are repeatedly noted as strengths, with rooms and hallways described as clean and fresh-smelling. Multiple reviewers say residents feel at home, comfortable, and engaged; activities and dining receive favorable comments, and some reviewers explicitly give 5-star endorsements and strong recommendations. Several comments highlight attentive staff who notice and address medical issues promptly and describe care as purposeful and personalized.

Conversely, a number of reviews recount troubling experiences that point to significant quality and safety concerns. These accounts describe poor or incompetent staff, allegations that staff ignore doctors' orders, and examples of staff behavior characterized as untrained in compassion, rude, condescending, or unprofessional. Serious neglect is alleged in some reports—residents described as being left in filth, long waits for the next shift, and claims that families had to wait hours for assistance. There are also specific safety-related complaints, including repeated falls and overall health decline for at least one resident. Cost is another recurring theme: some reviewers feel the facility is overpriced for the care actually provided. Several negative reviews also frame the problem as systemic, accusing top management of being money-driven and prioritizing profits over residents' well-being.

A notable pattern is inconsistency: many reviewers praise the same aspects that others criticize. This suggests variability in experience tied to specific units, shifts, or individual staff members. For example, some families report compassionate, diligent staff who provide excellent personalized attention, while others report rude or neglectful behavior and medical oversights. Housekeeping and first-floor cleanliness are consistently praised and appear to be a stronger, more reliable positive across reviews than some aspects of direct care. Dining and activities are more often mentioned positively, contributing to residents feeling active and engaged.

Taken together, the reviews indicate that Homeland Center can provide high-quality, compassionate care under certain conditions and with certain staff, but there are also serious, occasionally systemic problems reported by other families. The most frequently cited strengths are staff compassion (in many accounts), cleanliness, activities, and food. The most serious concerns relate to inconsistent staffing quality, alleged medical neglect (including ignoring doctors' orders), safety issues such as falls, long wait times during shift changes, and a perception that management may prioritize finances over resident care. Prospective residents and their families should weigh these mixed reports carefully: visit multiple times, ask about staffing levels and training, inquire specifically about fall-prevention protocols and how medical orders are handled, request recent inspection and incident reports, and speak with current families or resident councils to get a sense of consistency across shifts and units.
