    Friendly staff but management issues

I toured the facility and appreciated the small, homey community - very clean, friendly staff who knew residents by name, good activities, a caring nurse and accommodating chef. However the building felt dated and dark, some rooms share bathrooms (only one shower), and there's an odor and ongoing renovations. I was alarmed by management/communication problems, weak medical oversight, and staff financial control - we experienced money being withheld from my mom. It's a lovely, well-kept place with wonderful staff, but not the right fit for my loved one or anyone with dementia.

    Summary review

Overall impression: The reviews paint a mixed but predominantly positive picture of Paradise Manor as a small, homey assisted living community with many strengths concentrated in staff quality, cleanliness, and a family‑style atmosphere. Multiple reviewers praise the caregiving team—describing staff as friendly, caring, honest, and long‑tenured—and several note that staff know residents by name and go above and beyond. The administrator/director and owners receive specific positive mention for being upfront, caring, and actively involved in updates to the facility. Many visitors and families describe the facility as clean, well‑kept, and comfortable, with communal spaces (large TV room, computer area) and activities that create a social environment for residents.

Care and staffing: The dominant positive theme across reviews is the staff. Caregivers and nurses are frequently called attentive and compassionate; families report regular care updates and feel that dietary needs are accommodated by an accommodating chef. Several reviews reflect strong personal connections between staff and residents, leading to fond memories and satisfied family members. However, there are also serious counterpoints: some reviewers report stall tactics, poor communication, and instances of unsatisfactory care. A few accounts describe terrible experiences with management and claim that a resident was made miserable. There are also mentions that the facility is not well suited for residents with dementia or high medical needs, and at least one review raises a red flag about limited medical support (a doctor being unavailable for a month). These divergent reports indicate that while many families experience reliable and warm caregiving, others have encountered lapses in medical oversight and communication.

Facilities, rooms and accessibility: Paradise Manor is described as small and not crowded, with a wheelchair‑friendly layout and easy circulation. Rooms are characterized as modest in size but comfortable and clean; downstairs rooms sometimes include private bathrooms while upstairs rooms may share bathrooms. The presence of only one shower for the facility is mentioned explicitly, and the limited number of in‑room bathrooms is a recurring concern. Owners are reported to be updating and renovating parts of the building, but other comments describe a dark or worn interior and an overall outdated atmosphere in places. Odor is noted by some reviewers, though others describe the facility as pleasant‑smelling. These mixed comments suggest physical quality varies by area within the facility and may be in transition as renovations proceed.

Dining and social life: Positive comments include an accommodating chef and families who appreciated that dietary needs were met. There are also reports of varied activities—group trips, games, church services and entertaining groups—that contribute to resident engagement. Conversely, a few reviewers described dinner as an unhappy time with little conversation, suggesting that social dynamics may vary by resident group or mealtime setup. Overall, the community appears to offer programming and communal spaces, but social experiences may not be uniformly lively for all residents.

Management, communication and financial concerns: Reviews diverge sharply on management. Several families praise the administrator and owners as wonderful and caring, whereas others report horrible management, poor communication, and unsatisfactory responses to concerns. A particularly serious set of allegations involves financial control—one reviewer claims money was withheld from a resident and access to a bank account was restricted by staff. Combined with reports of stall tactics and poor communication, these comments represent significant concerns that prospective families should investigate directly when touring and contracting with the facility.

Suitability and recommendations: The pattern across reviews suggests Paradise Manor may be a good fit for people seeking a smaller, homey assisted living environment with a caring staff and modest accommodations—particularly for residents who need social support and basic assisted living services. However, multiple reviewers caution that it may not be appropriate for residents with moderate to advanced dementia or those who require higher levels of medical supervision. Given the variations in experiences—some very positive and some quite negative—prospective families should verify specific issues before placement: bathroom and shower availability (and how bathing is scheduled), the current status and timeline of renovations, staffing levels and medical coverage (including physician access), financial policies and account access, and recent examples of complaint resolution.

Bottom line: Many reviewers emphasize Paradise Manor’s strengths in staff compassion, cleanliness, and a small‑community feel. At the same time, consistent concerns about shared bathrooms/limited showers, intermittent odor and dated areas, variable management quality, and isolated but serious allegations about medical care and financial control mean that due diligence is essential. A careful in‑person tour, specific questions about medical coverage and financial safeguards, and speaking with current families will help determine whether this community matches an individual resident’s needs and risk tolerance.
