    Caring staff provide excellent therapy

I placed my loved one here and have been very pleased - the staff are caring, knowledgeable, and attentive to recovery, with strong mobility-focused therapy and proactive communication. The campus is beautiful and clean (sunlit atrium, indoor pond, garden patio, spacious rooms) with engaging activities; residents are treated like family and staff often go above and beyond, so I would recommend it.

    Summary of reviews

Reviews present a mixed but distinct pattern: the facility's physical environment and many direct-care staff are frequently praised, while operational and management-level inconsistencies create concern for some families. The campus, indoor atrium, garden and individual apartment-style rooms are consistently described as attractive, well-maintained, and conducive to a pleasant resident experience. Therapy and admissions processes receive positive mentions for timely intake, clear explanations about recovery and insurance, and a mobility-focused rehabilitation program. Many families highlight compassionate, hands-on CNAs and nurses, knowledgeable RNs and social workers, and staff who provide reassuring, family-like attention — including examples of staff going beyond expected duties for residents.

At the same time, reviews point to uneven clinical oversight and reliability. Examples include medication delays, order-processing issues, and what reviewers characterize as lapses in safe transfer and bed-exchange procedures. There are recurring comments about variability in responsiveness to call bells and care requests, and some accounts indicate billing and documentation errors that created confusion for families. These operational gaps appear most acute during off-peak hours or when supervisory staffing is limited; reviewers specifically note occasions with no RN on duty and difficulty reaching the facility by phone.

Facility-level practices also show mixed performance in housekeeping, pest control, and dining. While many reviewers describe clean, homelike common areas and well-kept rooms, there are also sanitation and pest-control concerns referenced near entry points and inconsistent comments about meal quality. Activity programming is a relative strength: residents and families report an active social calendar, engaging events, and staff who facilitate participation. Therapy staff and activity teams receive multiple positive comments for effectiveness and enthusiasm.

Management and communication emerge as another dividing line. Direct-care staff frequently receive praise for compassion and teamwork, but several reviewers describe upper-management as less responsive, with concerns about tone, customer service, and policies such as room-holding charges. A small number of serious personnel-related allegations, including concerns about theft, are also present in the reviews and warrant verification. Overall, the pattern is one of strong frontline caregiving within a facility whose administrative, clinical-supervision, and operational controls appear inconsistent.

For prospective residents and families: a visit that includes observation of mealtime, a tour of resident rooms and common areas, and conversations with both frontline caregivers and administrative leaders is advisable. Ask specific questions about RN coverage, medication-administration protocols, call-response metrics, transfer and bed-change procedures, pest-control and housekeeping schedules, billing practices, and how the facility documents and communicates incidents to families. Request recent inspection reports, therapy outcome data, and references from current families to help weigh the facility's notable environmental and therapeutic strengths against the operational inconsistencies described by some families.

About Lock Haven Rehabilitation & Senior Living

Lock Haven Rehabilitation & Senior Living sits in Lock Haven, Pennsylvania, right next to UPMC-Lock Haven Hospital, with a tunnel linking the two buildings to make hospital transfers simple for residents who need more care or just came out of the hospital, and folks have come through these doors for almost forty years now since it was Susque-View Home Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and now is part of Allaire Health Services. The facility has 146 certified beds, most days serving around 137 residents, and it's got nurses and clinical staff day and night, though the nurse turnover rate is higher than many places, sitting at about 63% last report, and each resident gets an average of 3.51 hours of nurse care each day. There are private suites, semi-private rooms, fully furnished spaces, private bathrooms, and a safe environment, especially for those with memory issues, because the place has areas set up to keep folks from wandering.

Folks here can find many options, whether they need skilled nursing, assisted living, independent living, subacute rehabilitation after a hospital stay, or even short-term respite and hospice care, and the facility offers specialized care like Cardiac Care, Dementia Care, Palliative Care, Renal and Respiratory Care, Wound Care, and orthopedic rehab, plus it's designed to help people recover well with programs aiming to keep them from going back to the hospital. The team here coordinates care with each person's healthcare providers, manages medication, and helps with things like bathing, mobility, and other daily activities at all times. People with diabetes get specific support, and there's a focus on making sure treatments match the doctor's order and the resident's wishes, though survey inspections have found some problems in the past, like failing to fully respect resident treatment choices or advance directive requests, plus there have been a number of citations, including infection control and pharmacy service issues, and overall federal standards are tracked.

Meal service is steady, with meals prepared for everyone and served in common dining areas or, if needed, in private rooms, and the dining space gets lots of daylight from a big atrium. The gardens and outdoor areas are landscaped and kept up for relaxation, while inside you get Wi-Fi, cable TV, air conditioning, laundry, computer labs, and regular housekeeping and linen services. There's a salon and barber available, and the calendar fills up with group exercise, entertainment, spiritual activities, and weekly religious services, plus frequent field trips and planned events to keep minds and bodies active and social.

Residents have access to organized transportation, whether for medical appointments or local trips, and a patient concierge is on hand around the clock. Safety is handled with an emergency response and 24-hour call system, plenty of supervision, and active help with mobility. The company running the facility, Allaire Health Services, is for-profit and privately held, and Lock Haven Rehabilitation & Senior Living accepts both Medicare and Medicaid along with other major insurance plans, aiming to offer a calm and supportive environment for seniors needing varying levels of care right in the same community where they may have spent much of their lives.
