    Impressed by caring, professional staff

I was impressed by the professional, respectful, and genuinely caring staff - therapy was on schedule and effective, medical care (including diabetes and Coumadin management) was reliable, and the facility was very clean, bright, and homey with engaging activities like bingo, jigsaws and soup-making. Staff went above and beyond and I was discharged home independently, though occasionally things were slow or forgotten; I'm grateful for the care my mom, Brenda Reidler, received.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews is predominantly positive, with recurring praise for the cleanliness of Mount Carmel Senior Living Community, the professionalism and compassion of the staff, and the facility’s effectiveness as a rehabilitation and long-term care provider. Multiple reviewers highlight a very clean, bright facility with well-kept grounds, a spacious and bright dining area, tasteful food, and a homey resident room environment. The small size of the community is described positively by many as contributing to a welcoming, family-like atmosphere where residents are treated with dignity and respect.

Staff quality and culture are among the strongest themes. Reviews consistently describe staff as personable, friendly, respectful, loving, and hardworking. Caregivers and clinical staff are frequently mentioned as going beyond expectations, making residents feel loved and safe, and providing compassionate care. Several comments point to a collaborative interdisciplinary team, responsive management, and a good work environment — factors that reviewers connect to quality resident care. Communication and updates to families are mentioned positively, and some reviewers explicitly say they felt well-informed and appreciated the organized operations.

Clinical care and rehabilitation services receive strong, repeated endorsement. Physical therapy is described as effective and on schedule, and reviewers report that therapy teams are hopeful and goal-oriented, successfully maximizing outcomes. The facility is frequently recommended for short-term rehab stays and respite care, and there are multiple mentions of residents being discharged home independently after rehab. In addition to therapy, reviewers note competent medical management, specifically diabetes and Coumadin management, which supports the perception of reliable clinical oversight.

Activities and social engagement are another area of strength. The community is portrayed as active and busy with an array of engagement options — from bingo and jigsaw puzzles to exercise sessions and special activities like soup-making — which reviewers say helps keep residents occupied and socially connected. The presence of an on-site beauty/barber salon and a bright dining room also contribute to a sense of normal daily living and community life.

While the majority of comments are positive, several noteworthy concerns appear repeatedly and should be considered. A few reviewers describe a slightly institutional ambiance, suggesting that despite the homey elements, some areas retain a clinical feel. There are reports of occasional delays and things being forgotten or having to wait for services, which implies occasional lapses in consistency. Most significantly, a minority of reviews raise serious reputational concerns: at least one reviewer stated the facility is not recommended for loved ones and referenced claims from former employees and discrepancies between the facility’s website and residents’ experiences. These negative reports are not the dominant narrative but are strong enough to be a cautionary datapoint when weighing the overall picture.

In summary, Mount Carmel Senior Living Community appears to offer a clean, well-maintained environment with compassionate staff, effective rehabilitation services, solid medical management, and an engaging activities program. Its small size and organized operations are often cited as benefits that result in personalized attention and family-like care. Prospective residents and families should weigh these consistent strengths against occasional reports of institutional ambiance, intermittent lapses in service, and a few serious negative comments regarding reputation and care sufficiency. If considering Mount Carmel, it would be prudent to visit in person, ask for recent references, and discuss any specific medical or care concerns directly with management to clarify those mixed reports.

About Mount Carmel Senior Living Community

Mount Carmel Personal Care Community offers several living options for seniors, including independent living units, personal care homes, memory care, assisted living, and skilled nursing care, which means as people's needs change, they can move to different levels of care without leaving the community, and with their 119 beds and average census of 106 residents, it feels neither too crowded nor too quiet most of the time. Residents get support with daily activities like bathing, dressing, transfer assistance, medication management, and round-the-clock nursing care, and there's a team to help with both short-term rehab after surgery or illness and long-term support for those who need it, all with certified nursing beds that accept Medicare and Medicaid. The rooms are well-furnished and include telephones and either private or shared spaces, depending on what the resident chooses, and there are independent living units that have their own bath and kitchenette. Social life gets a boost from many planned activities, including arts and crafts, scheduled movie afternoons, festive holiday celebrations, theme parties, and even resident-run activities, while the activity department tries to keep everyone engaged. Group game opportunities, devotional events, and visits from local musicians add both rhythm and structure to each week.

Mount Carmel has a fitness center, walking paths, a garden, and an arts room, plus an on-site beauty salon and barber shop, so residents can spend their days relaxing or keeping busy, depending on how they feel. Meals are prepared under the guidance of nutritionists, and they serve options for groups or individuals, taking into account personal or medical dietary needs like allergies or diabetes, and residents can pay extra for meal service or cook on their own if they wish. The community also organizes transport, including through Giringan Life Flight 5 for special medical trips or emergencies, and offers outpatient rehabilitative services such as aquatic therapy, physical, speech, and occupational therapy to help people regain or maintain function at various levels.

The staff help with everything from medication to basic grooming, with a continual presence of nurses and aides, and although the nurse turnover rate is lower than state average at 37.1%, nurse hours per resident per day stand at 3.02, which falls a bit below typical state figures. Mount Carmel's annual inspection and regulatory reports show some trouble spots, like documented deficiencies in areas including infection control, honoring residents' rights, and providing care based on orders and preferences, and there's a total of 39 cited deficiencies with several tied specifically to infection prevention and resident quality of life, but the place tends to respond with corrective actions and ongoing infection control measures.

Ownership falls under Apostrophe Opco LLC, and individuals named David Gamzeh and Gabriel Sebbag play a management or ownership role. The community aims to respect each resident, encourage independence, and help maintain health, but challenges like staffing shortages and federal deficiencies always need careful attention. Mount Carmel Personal Care Community keeps daily routines simple, social, and structured, with residents treated with respect in an atmosphere that feels both homelike and practical, and while it's not perfect, it provides a broad array of support and services that fit a range of senior living needs.
