    Filthy, understaffed facility; avoid sending

I would not recommend this place. In my experience the building was filthy and rundown, understaffed, and communication with families was poor - front-desk staff were rude and unresponsive. Meals were inflexible and residents missed care and ADL help; I saw signs of overmedication and suspected medication and financial mishandling, and I heard troubling reports about unattended deaths. Check on your loved ones - I removed mine and would not send anyone here.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment: The reviews paint a predominantly negative picture of Angel's Family Manor Inc, with multiple, recurring allegations of poor cleanliness, inadequate maintenance, understaffing, weak clinical oversight, and management failures. While a small number of reviewers praise individual caregivers as caring, compassionate, and somewhat professional, these positive notes appear isolated against a backdrop of more serious, systemic concerns described by several reviewers.

Care quality and medical oversight: A central theme in the reviews is deficient direct care and medical oversight. Reported problems include lack of assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs), missed care, and inadequate nutrition. Several reviewers describe set meal schedules that lead to residents missing meals when they cannot be seated or assisted in time. More serious clinical allegations include medication problems (both overprescription by staff and reports of stolen medications), failures to perform routine blood tests, and in extreme cases, reports of deaths with bodies left unattended for hours or days. These accounts suggest inconsistent clinical practices and potential lapses in monitoring and documentation.

Staffing, behavior, and communication: Reviewers frequently cite too few staff as a contributing factor to poor care and neglect. Communication problems are another repeated concern: families report poor notification practices, lack of updates, and rude or unresponsive front-desk/administrative staff (including hang-ups and impoliteness). At the same time, some reviewers explicitly note that certain caregivers are compassionate, supportive of families, and involved with residents; this indicates variability in staff performance where individual employees may provide good care despite broader staffing and managerial shortfalls. Privacy violations and reports that the facility is "not a good place to work" further underscore personnel and culture issues.

Facilities, cleanliness, and environment: Facility conditions are a major and consistently reported problem. Multiple reviewers describe the building as filthy, smelly, overcrowded, and in disrepair, with dilapidated chairs, cluttered dining areas, and shared bathrooms that compromise resident privacy and dignity. The presence of incontinent residents in the main dining space and general clutter/neglect of common areas are frequently called out. These descriptions point to ongoing custodial, housekeeping, and maintenance failures that affect resident comfort and safety.

Dining, activities, and daily life: Beyond meal scheduling and nutrition concerns, reviewers report a lack of activities and programming, contributing to an environment perceived as neglectful and unstimulating. The combination of inadequate meal support, rigid meal times, and minimal engagement activities suggests that residents may not be receiving adequate daily living assistance or social stimulation.

Financial and management concerns: Several reviews allege financial mismanagement and exploitation, including stolen funds or other financial theft, and vendor payment issues. These reports, along with repeated comments about poor management, indicate systemic administrative issues that may affect staffing, vendor relations, and the facility's ability to maintain safe, clean operations.

Patterns and implications: Taken together, the reviews reveal consistent patterns: poor environmental conditions, insufficient staffing, communication breakdowns, serious clinical and safety allegations, and administrative/financial instability. Positive mentions of caring staff suggest that some employees strive to provide good care, but those efforts appear undermined by broader organizational problems. The severity of some allegations (e.g., unattended deaths, stolen medications, financial exploitation) is particularly concerning and, if accurate, would warrant immediate attention from regulators, families, and oversight entities.

Conclusion: Reviewers provide a mix of isolated positive impressions about individual caregivers and a preponderance of serious, recurring negative reports about cleanliness, care quality, safety, communication, and management. The most frequently mentioned and significant issues are unsanitary and dilapidated facilities, understaffing and neglect of ADLs, medication and medical-care concerns, poor communication with families, and alleged financial/mismanagement problems. These patterns suggest substantial operational and oversight deficiencies; prospective residents and families should exercise caution, seek in-person inspections, request documentation of regulatory compliance, and monitor care closely if considering placement.

    About Angel's Family Manor Inc

Angel's Family Manor Inc sits on Main Avenue in West Scranton and gives residents views of the downtown business district and Sno Mountain Ski Resort, and the location is convenient to Interstates 81, 84, 380, and the PA Turnpike, so families can get there without much fuss, and residents have access to public transportation. The place lets both men and women live there as long as they're at least 29 years old, and the staff welcomes everyone, treating each person with respect no matter their faith, and a Catholic priest comes by each week for communion, and there's a strong focus on knowing each resident to help keep some independence and lift self-esteem. Residents can park their cars onsite and keep pets if they'd like, and smoking isn't allowed inside but folks can smoke outdoors. The team includes nurses, a doctor on call, and caregivers ready 24 hours a day, so help's always at hand, and there's support available for all care levels-light, medium, or heavy-depending on what a person needs.

Angel's Family Manor offers assisted living, independent living, memory care for those with Alzheimer's or dementia (which can get expensive, about three times standard healthcare), hospice care, and respite or short-term stays. People can get assistance with everything from bathing, dressing, transfers for folks who can't walk, managing medicines, grooming, to diabetic and incontinence care, plus meals, housekeeping, laundry, room cleaning, and even home maintenance, so daily worries are kept to a minimum. There's a focus on safety and comfort, and wheelchair accessibility runs through the building, including showers and bathrooms, and rooms come in private, double, or triple set-ups, with cable TV, air conditioning, Wi-Fi, kitchenettes, and telephones, and actual photos of the rooms show what's available.

Meals come three times a day with a snack at night, cooked by a chef, and there are vegetarian options, with special diets supported. Residents can eat together in the dining room or use their kitchenette if they want privacy, and the staff manages shopping, housework, laundry, and maintenance, so most chores are taken care of. There's a full range of activity programs, like book clubs, arts, gardening, fitness, movies, cooking, music, and resident-led events, as well as free bingo, movie nights, birthday and holiday celebrations, prayer groups, and planned outings to concerts, movies, parks, and sports, though some trips might cost extra. People can stay fit with access to a fitness room, and there are outdoor walking paths, a garden, and even options for golf, tennis, hiking, or swimming when the season suits. There's a game room, a library, a music room, a business area, lounge with big TV, wellness suite, and other indoor spaces for relaxing or socializing, and devotional services happen onsite and offsite, with activity programs made to keep minds and bodies active.

Medical care includes licensed personal care services, in-home podiatrist and physician visits, supervised medication distribution, and support for health conditions like diabetes, dementia, and bowel incontinence. Folks who need help with dressing, grooming, or bathing will find staff ready to support those needs respectfully, and the owner keeps an eye on care quality. Nurses are available for 12-16 hour shifts, with a 24-hour call system in place for emergencies. Transportation is available for local medical appointments and bigger trips, and parking is provided for residents. The staff aims to provide a comfortable, supportive place that feels like home, with a focus on thoughtful, personal care, safety, and plenty of opportunity for social connections.
