    Generally caring but safety concerns

I've lived here 22 months - the grounds and apartments are attractive and mostly very clean, the staff are warm, friendly and helpful, meals and activities are plentiful, and the place can feel like home. That said, I've also seen worrying lapses: missed meds and missed room cleaning at times, unanswered call buttons, residents left without help for hours, removal of call pendants, lax memory-care security, and even reports of missing belongings. Overall it's a caring, activity-filled community that made my transition smoother, but families should watch closely for safety and supervision issues.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews is strongly positive with consistent praise for staff, cleanliness, activities, and the overall atmosphere — but there are a number of serious, specific negative allegations that appear in a minority of reviews and warrant careful attention.

Care quality and staff: The majority of reviews emphasize caring, compassionate, and professional staff who treat residents like family. Multiple reviewers singled out staff members by name and praised teamwork, long tenure, one-on-one attention, and a holistic approach addressing emotional, spiritual, and physical needs. Families reported smooth transitions from rehab to assisted living, thorough onboarding, good communication, and staff who promptly address concerns. Several reviews say residents have improved physically and mentally and that the community feels supportive and welcoming. These positive comments form the most frequent theme and underpin many recommendations.

Facilities and units: Reviewers frequently note the facility as very clean, attractive, and well-kept. Apartments are described as spacious with kitchenettes, microwaves, fridges, and large closets. Laundry service, timely housekeeping (in many reports), and overall building maintenance receive repeated praise. Tours left strong first impressions — prompt greetings, pleasant smells, and updated spaces were highlighted. The community size (small, quaint) and location were also mentioned positively.

Dining and activities: Dining and programming are strong themes. Many reviews praise tasty food, menu choices, and holiday or special meals (Thanksgiving, Valentine’s dinner). Activities are varied and frequent — Bingo, music performances, trips, and outings — contributing to an active social life and improved resident morale. Visitors are welcome to dine, and social/fellowship opportunities are described as excellent.

Management and communication: Many families appreciated transparent, communicative management and staff who keep them informed. Positive reports mention supportive leadership, responsiveness to issues, and staff who proactively greet and assist families. Multiple reviewers explicitly recommend the community for assisted living and highlight it as a warm, family-like place to call home.

Notable concerns and patterns: Intermixed with many positive accounts are serious, specific allegations that cannot be ignored. Some reviews allege negligent care resulting in rashes and bed sores, reports of residents being left without assistance until the next shift, and instances where call buttons were not answered or medicines were missed. More troubling are allegations of removal of resident call pendants, theft of resident belongings, staff grooming/behavior concerns (very long fingernails, staff scratching during care), and that doors were closed to prevent inspectors from speaking with residents. Memory care was specifically described as "not secure" by some reviewers. These concerns appear less frequently than the positive comments but are severe in nature and indicate potential lapses in safety, adherence to protocols, and oversight.

Consistency and contradictions: The reviews show a clear majority of residents and family members experiencing excellent care, cleanliness, and rich programming, while a smaller set report significant and specific problems. Some operational items show inconsistency: multiple reviewers praised on-time medication and housekeeping, while others reported missed medication deliveries, unmade beds, or uncleaned rooms. Food was described by many as tasty and by a few as institutional — showing variability in experience or expectations.

Recommendation and takeaway: For prospective residents and families, the Legacy of Camden appears to offer a warm, well-kept assisted living environment with engaged staff, strong social programming, and many families reporting improved resident wellbeing. However, the presence of several severe allegations (neglect, safety/security lapses in memory care, missing call responses, theft) means prospective families should perform detailed, targeted due diligence: visit multiple times at different hours, ask specifically about memory care security and staffing ratios, request documentation of incident handling and staffing background checks, inquire about call pendant policies and medication delivery protocols, and speak directly with current residents and family members about safety and responsiveness. The overall pattern is positive, but the few serious concerns reported should be investigated before making a placement decision.

    About The Legacy of Camden

The Legacy of Camden serves adults 55 and older, and the place is set up for many different needs, so folks can live on their own in independent apartments, get help through assisted living, use memory care if they need it, or even get nursing home support, and short-term respite care is there if needed. The staff works around the clock, and they've got nurses on duty, a nurse on call, and a doctor on call, and there's extra help for medication, bathing, dressing, and managing other everyday needs, plus a wireless emergency response system in every apartment and an emergency response team if anything happens. Apartments range from studios to one- and two-bedroom suites, all with private, full bathrooms that can handle wheelchairs, and electricity, water, and Wi-Fi are covered in the rent, so there aren't surprise expenses for these basic needs. If someone needs dental work, podiatry, speech therapy, occupational therapy, or physical therapy, those professionals come to the building, and home care services are available right there as well.

Everybody gets three restaurant-style meals a day in the dining room, snacks, and a daily routine of activities run by a full-time social director, including wellness classes, card games, outings, devotional services, and more, and the fitness center and enclosed courtyard (some care options) give people space to be active. The place has a beauty salon and barber service, laundry and housekeeping every week, in-house maintenance, and transportation to professional appointments, so getting to the doctor or therapist is not a hassle, plus resident parking is provided if you drive. Folks are allowed to keep small pets, like cats and dogs, and there's a no-smoking policy inside all rooms and indoor areas.

The building is all one story, so moving around is easy, and places are accessible for wheelchairs or walkers, with indoor common areas to relax or visit with others, and a private dining room for family or special events. Security runs 24 hours, and there's a staff that tries to be patient and caring, aiming to help everyone maintain independence or step in with more care as health needs change. Medicaid is accepted, and the facility functions as a continuing care retirement community, so you can move between different levels of care without having to leave, and everything is designed to fit both comfort and personal needs. The Legacy of Camden isn't fancy or full of hype, but it does offer a real range of services, comfortable living, simple pleasures, and steady support for people who want to feel both independent and safe as they age.
