    About The Carolinian Retirement Community

The Carolinian Retirement Community, once located at 718 S Dargan St in downtown Florence, South Carolina, offered both independent and assisted living options for seniors in a three-story building. Residents could choose from studio, one-bedroom, or two-bedroom apartments, all featuring full kitchens, individual climate control, and patios or balconies. The place supported aging in place, with care services that increased as residents needed more help, allowing folks to stay as their needs changed. There were staff and professional caregivers available around the clock and nurses on-site, so residents could get help with bathing, dressing, medication management, or other daily tasks whenever needed. For those with health concerns, the community provided care for diabetes, administered insulin, and could remind folks to use the restroom if needed.

Every day, the dining room served three meals, including options for those with allergies, diabetes, or other dietary needs, and residents didn't have to worry about planning or making meals. Housekeeping, laundry, and move-in help helped keep things easy. The Carolinian ran a busy activities calendar, faith-based programs, and religious services onsite, with residents taking part in art, group outings, and social events in the common or community rooms. Indoors and outdoors, there were plenty of spots to gather, including a community room for private parties, a garden, outdoor patios, walking paths, and BBQ areas. Folks could smoke outdoors if they wanted.

The building was equipped for wheelchairs, had showers that were easy to get into, and all apartments had smoke detectors and emergency alert systems monitored by awake staff at all hours. Transportation was covered too, since residents had parking, access to complimentary rides, and were close to local bus lines, plus medical transportation to healthcare visits and pharmacies when needed. Onsite beautician, barber, laundry, and housekeeping services, along with furnished rooms and special meal options, added a bit of comfort and convenience, and pets were allowed.

For medical needs, The Carolinian provided non-ambulatory care, respite care for short stays, hospice support, and memory care. The staff could respond to emergencies any time of the day or night. Families appreciated the chance to hold private celebrations or gatherings in the reserved community space. People living here enjoyed both independence and care, while being part of a strong, faith-based community in the heart of Florence, though it's important to know the facility has since permanently closed.
