    Pleasant facility with staffing concerns

I'm overall pleased - the staff are friendly, knowledgeable and kind, the facility is beautiful, clean and home-like, and daily activities and meals keep residents engaged. Care is generally good and staff often go above and beyond, but I experienced inconsistent coverage (shift-change gaps), understaffing-especially in memory care-and occasional lapses in hygiene/attention. Costs are high and some areas felt dark or too warm. I'd recommend it with reservations: visit in person and ask specific questions about staffing and memory-care practices.

About The Pines at Florence Assisted Living & Memory Care

The Pines at Florence Assisted Living & Memory Care sits on Hoffmeyer Road in Florence, SC, and has been part of the community since 1991, with renovations made in 2017 that brought in brighter spaces and new touches. This single-story home offers studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom apartments, including both semi-private and private options, with sizes from 236 to 483 square feet, and every space keeps comfort in mind with roomy layouts, grab bars in bathrooms, and wide doorways for easy movement, plus they welcome both cats and dogs, which is nice for anyone who can't imagine living without their pet. Residents live a maintenance-free life, enjoying outings on garden paths or the courtyard, relaxing with a book in a cozy lounge near the fireplace, or visiting the library and on-site ice cream parlor, and scheduled activities such as art classes, trivia, gardening clubs, and yoga help people keep busy and make friends, while a full activity director plans events every week, including offsite trips, live music, and devotional services. Folks don't have to worry about meals, as the chef and kitchen staff make restaurant-style dishes served in the dining room or brought with room service, and if anyone likes a snack, there's a 24-hour snack and beverage bar. For health needs, the community has on-site nurses, a doctor on call, routine clinical oversight, and care plans built for each person, covering everything from medication help and incontinence care to support with standing or moving if needed, and they have special training for memory care, providing a secure area for those with dementia or Alzheimer's, including safety measures like alarmed bracelets and doors. The Pines works with nearby pharmacies and healthcare centers like Moss Compounding Pharmacy and Florence Surgery & Laser Center, and transportation is available for medical appointments, errands, or trips out, so residents don't have to drive, and if someone's just staying a short time, respite care or hospice support is also available. Housekeeping, laundry, and all maintenance get taken care of, so people can focus on what makes them happy, and the atmosphere feels homelike and caring, with bilingual caregivers and a full-time nurse making sure everyone's needs get met, no matter if it's a specialized diet, a favorite hobby, or help getting around. The staff and management work hard to focus on residents' well-being, independence, and peace of mind, and reviews on Seniorly give high marks for friendliness, activities, and quality of care, showing that folks who live here seem glad to call it home.

Sinceri's philosophy centers on treating residents like family and fostering genuine bonds between those who live and serve in their communities. Their mission emphasizes honoring the aging process while providing exceptional, person-centered care that empowers residents to maintain their independence and live their best lives regardless of care needs. The company believes that everyone deserves dignity, respect, and opportunities for joy and meaningful experiences, which drives their holistic approach to senior care that goes beyond basic safety and comfort to create truly enriching living environments.

The company has earned significant industry recognition, including certification as a Great Place to Work for seven consecutive years and multiple Forbes honors, including ranking as #78 among America's Best Midsize Employers in 2021 and recognition as one of America's Best Employers by State for Washington. In recent years, Sinceri has experienced substantial growth through strategic partnerships with major healthcare REITs including National Health Investors and Ventas, adding multiple properties in 2024 while maintaining strong operational performance with seven consecutive quarters of NOI growth and achieving pre-pandemic occupancy levels across their stabilized portfolio.
