    Neglect, filth, rude staff, death

I would not recommend this place. My mom's room was dirty and smelled of urine, staff were rude (even cussing at patients) and unresponsive, oxygen was mismanaged (I found a nasal cannula on the floor while nurses shrugged off a "missing" piece), residents were stranded when the facility effectively closed, communication was horrible with long phone waits, and my mom died after what I believe was neglect - there are even allegations of fraud by owner Kim. I'm ashamed I trusted them.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment: The reviews present a strongly negative, even alarming, picture of Rosewood Assisted Living. Multiple reviewers describe serious failures across basic care, safety, communication, and facility management. The language used in the summaries indicates both immediate care problems (dirty rooms, medical equipment mismanagement) and systemic issues (closed facility, unresponsive management, alleged fraud). Several accounts describe traumatic outcomes for residents and families, including at least one death.

Care quality and patient safety: The dominant theme across reviews is inadequate and potentially dangerous care. Reported problems include poor monitoring of residents, mismanagement of oxygen and related respiratory equipment, and a specific instance where a nasal cannula was found on the floor. Reviewers say nurses have responded by claiming missing parts rather than addressing equipment failures. These reports point to both procedural lapses (failing to secure and check medical devices) and insufficient clinical oversight. Several reviewers directly connect neglectful care to severe outcomes, including the death of a resident.

Staff behavior and communication: Staff responsiveness and interpersonal conduct are major concerns. Multiple summaries state staff were unresponsive during critical moments, leaving residents stranded when the facility was closed or otherwise unavailable. Families report long, unsuccessful attempts to reach the facility by phone. In addition to nonresponsiveness, reviewers describe staff as rude and even verbally abusive toward residents (cussing at patients). These accounts suggest both a breakdown in emergency/operational communication protocols and a poor culture of respect and professionalism.

Facility conditions and environment: Reviewers repeatedly note poor cleanliness and an unpleasant environment, citing a strong urine smell and dirty rooms. These conditions contribute to an impression of neglect and unsanitary living conditions that would be concerning for anyone evaluating an assisted living facility. Cleanliness complaints reinforce the care-quality concerns by suggesting inadequate staffing or supervision of basic housekeeping and resident hygiene.

Management and administrative issues: The reviews raise serious administrative concerns, including a report that the facility was closed while residents were left without adequate support and allegations of fraud by the owner identified as "Kim." Whether legal or financial mismanagement is occurring cannot be determined from the summaries alone, but the combination of a closed facility, residents being forced to walk to other locations, and accusations of fraud point to potential systemic failures at the ownership or executive level. Families also report being ashamed and distressed by how the situation was handled, indicating a lack of transparent, compassionate leadership.

Patterns and severity: Taken together, the reviews show repeated, consistent patterns rather than isolated incidents: persistent unresponsiveness, inadequate medical oversight, poor sanitation, and problematic staff behavior. The presence of at least one reported death and allegations of fraud significantly elevates the severity of concerns. These are not limited to service dissatisfaction but suggest risks to resident health and safety and potential regulatory or legal issues.

Recommendations and considerations: For families and prospective residents, these reviews warrant extreme caution. Verify licensure and inspection records with local regulatory authorities, request recent health and safety inspection reports, and ask for references from current families. If the facility is currently closed or appears unstable, seek alternative placements immediately. For regulators or ombudsmen, the complaints described (equipment mismanagement, neglect, alleged fraud, resident death) trigger the need for prompt investigation into clinical practices, staffing adequacy, incident reporting, and financial/administrative operations. For the facility leadership, immediate corrective actions should include transparent communication with residents and families, a full audit of clinical and safety practices (particularly oxygen and respiratory care), staffing and training improvements focused on respectful resident interactions, and remediation of housekeeping and infection-control protocols.

Conclusion: The reviews collectively depict a facility with serious, multifaceted problems affecting resident dignity, safety, and well-being. The most urgent issues are medical device and monitoring failures, staff unresponsiveness and abusive behavior, poor sanitation, and troubling administrative behavior including claims of closure and fraud. These patterns justify prompt scrutiny and intervention by families, placement agents, and regulatory bodies.

    About Rosewood Assisted Living

Rosewood Assisted Living sits out on Highway 215 about nine miles from Spartanburg, right near Pauline Creek in Pauline, South Carolina, and you get a mix of help and independence here since that's the whole point of this place, with rooms like private suites, studios, and one-bedroom apartments, all of them furnished and with private bathrooms, cable TV, air conditioning, kitchenettes, and Wi-Fi, which can matter for some folks, and meals are cooked by staff who know how to handle different diets, including special requests for diabetes or allergies-plus, you get a dining room offering meals all day if you don't like strict schedules, and the staff will help with meal preparation if that's needed. Residents can count on support with daily needs like bathing, dressing, getting in and out of bed, managing medicine, and even keeping track of blood sugar for diabetes, and someone's on staff around the clock in case there's an emergency, which can be important for peace of mind, with a call system for help day or night, and nurses on hand for 12 to 16 hours if someone needs more serious attention. There are mental health services through a wellness program, a memory care unit set up for folks facing Alzheimer's or dementia with safety in mind and lots of effort to prevent confusion and wandering, as well as support for non-ambulatory care and incontinence care; if someone needs help moving from a bed to a wheelchair, that's available too. The community has a Christian value-based approach, giving some a sense of comfort or familiarity, and staff aim to keep the place home-like, with regular housekeeping, laundry, maintenance, and even a concierge to coordinate things like moving in or different appointments around Pauline. Social life is built in because there are weekly activities, some run by the community, others started by residents, plus clubs, movie nights, music, and church devotionals, and there's a theater, arts room, fitness room, walking paths, a garden, and a game room that let people stay busy or active as they prefer, and there's an on-site salon and spa by appointment, as well as a library if you want a quiet spot for reading. Folks who want to get out can arrange rides into the nearby area for errands or outings, and families get support services to help them stay in touch and understand their choices. The place has Wi-Fi throughout, common indoor areas for talking or playing cards, and healthy lifestyle programs with fitness and wellness rooms, plus meal and nutrition planning straight from professional chef staff. There are seventy-five beds in total, so it's a large community, but it's known locally for friendly staff and a welcoming feel, even winning a "Most Friendly" award in senior living, and ratings are about 4.2 out of 10, which makes it the highest rated in the city, with families mentioning they feel satisfied with how staff support their loved ones. Activities and programs change up and keep daily life from feeling boring, and both home care and memory care are on offer, so people have support as their needs shift or if they just want a bit more independence with help in the background.
