    Clean facility but serious neglect

I toured this old but very clean facility and saw caring staff and families who seemed well looked after in some areas. But I also experienced loud, rude staff, awful food, mishandled trays with wrong names and no apology, and clear neglect upstairs - management was indifferent. I'm seriously concerned and feel a state inspection (even shutdown) is warranted.

    Summary review

Overall impression: The reviews for Ridgeway Manor Healthcare Center are strongly mixed and polarized. Several reviewers praise caring staff, clean areas, and report that some residents receive quality care and are treated like family. At the same time, other reviewers describe alarming problems — neglect (particularly in an upstairs section), rude and indifferent staff, serious cleanliness/pest problems, and complaints severe enough that some call for state inspection or closure. The result is a facility with notable strengths but also serious, recurring concerns that create wide variability in resident and visitor experiences.

Care quality: Reports of care quality diverge sharply. Multiple summaries note that some residents receive attentive, quality care and that staff can be compassionate and familial toward residents. Conversely, other summaries describe neglect — especially in the upstairs section — and at least one reviewer characterized their visit as "horrible." These conflicting accounts suggest uneven care across units, shifts, or teams rather than a uniformly high or uniformly poor clinical standard.

Staff behavior and culture: Staff performance and demeanor are recurrent themes, again with a split pattern. Positive comments cite caring staff who treat residents like family. Negative comments emphasize rude or loud staff, poor attitudes, lack of empathy, and instances of blame-shifting when mistakes occur. Specific behavioral problems reported include staff failing to apologize for errors, blaming others for mistakes, and delivering care or services with an apparent lack of courtesy. Management is described by some reviewers as indifferent, which may contribute to persistent interpersonal and service problems.

Facilities and cleanliness: Several reviewers call the facility clean and "very nice," indicating that parts of the campus are well maintained. However, there are also reports of significant facility issues: an "old building," concerns about misleading building advertising, and disturbing claims such as a "nasty rat hole." These conflicting comments point to inconsistent maintenance or to differences between well-kept public areas and neglected back-of-house or resident areas. Pest reports and severe cleanliness complaints are notable red flags that merit immediate attention.

Dining and meal service: Dining experiences are another polarizing area. Some reviewers praise the food, calling it good, while others describe dinner as "awful" or "bad tasting." Operational problems are also reported — trays delivered with the wrong resident name, mishandling of trays, and no apology from staff when errors occur. These issues suggest inconsistent food quality and problems in basic meal-service procedures, which directly affect resident satisfaction and safety.

Management, accountability, and safety concerns: Several summaries express frustration with management's apparent indifference and lack of accountability. Complaints about blaming others, no apologies, and staff attitudes reflect deeper cultural or leadership issues. The most serious comments — calls for state inspection or shutdown and reports of neglect — indicate that some reviewers believe there are systemic problems that could affect resident safety. While not all reviewers share that view, the recurrence and severity of those allegations make them important patterns to recognize.

Notable patterns and overall takeaways: The dominant pattern is inconsistency. Positive experiences (caring staff, clean areas, good food) coexist with severe negatives (neglect in specific areas, pest problems, rude staff, meal errors). The split suggests variability by unit, shift, or personnel rather than uniformly excellent or uniformly failing operations. The most urgent themes are reported neglect (especially upstairs), pest/cleanliness complaints, and recurring staff attitude/service failures. These issues, combined with suggestions for regulatory review from some reviewers, point to the need for targeted investigation, corrective maintenance, strengthened operational procedures for dining and resident identification, and leadership action on staff culture and accountability.

In summary, Ridgeway Manor shows meaningful strengths that matter to residents — compassionate caregivers and areas that are kept clean — but also has alarming, specific negative reports that cannot be ignored. The facility appears to deliver good care in places and times, yet serious lapses (neglect, pest presence, rude or inattentive staff, and management indifference) create risk and distress for residents and visitors. Any evaluation or decision about the facility should weigh both the positive testimonials and the specific, recurring negative complaints; the patterns in these reviews suggest areas for immediate review and remedial action to ensure consistent, safe, and respectful care across the entire facility.
